Absolutely beautiful! Writing a post modernist essay for uni while listening to this. Slightly ironic but none the less one of the most helpful tools to concentrate. Funny also that my favourite 2 genres are Dubstep and Hip Hop!
Counterpoints, Fugues, Canons and etc. In my opinion; the of the greatest achievements in human creativity, when it comes to sound. Why settle for Synthesizers when you can play a real instrument?
@claus93Sethsen Well, synthetic instruments can do things humans can't do. Though I agree that there's something particularly pleasing about strings and similar instruments, there are also many compelling synth sounds.
Also, a beautiful middle ground is the area of acoustic instruments being digitally altered, as in the music of The Books, or The Flashbulb's 'Passage D'.
I really like this performance. The conductor is changing is the rythm of the opening measures to make it sound more like a french ovurture, which is probably what mozart intended.

I find it very hard to believe that this music was really written by Mozart. Not only does it sound awful, but it does not even sound like Mozart's music at all.
You would be surprised how many great classical musicians turn to counterpoint in their last years. Because it's music for musicians, and they know it's time to stop writing fluff.
@halakar No, people lived into their 50's and 60's in the 18th century. Later often, but the life expectancy was, I think, around 55. Died young, at any rate.
@mrbrianmccarthy According to wikipedia, he was 32 years old (this piece was written in 1788.). Originally written for piano, the fugue is a transcription of KV 426 (composed 5 years earlier 1783.).

The thing I hate classical music is that it gets really soft, then LOUD. The soft parts you can't hear too well, so you turn up the volume REALLY loud, then BAM, it's way too LOUD.
Mozart had been conditioned too much in the homophonic expressive classical style. This fugue sounds like one melody fights for dominance while others are thrown into darkness while their growth and dimension are neglected.
Это великолепно!!!! Я не знал, что у моцарта есть настолько чудесные произведения!!!!

What is the building in the video? They don't make them like that anymore.

@IronRoss66 Don't know, but if you watch the movie "The Haunting" from c. 1962 you'll see more of it. I think it's in upstate Vermont.

Amazing Mozart uses Bach to imitate Beethoven.
I first heard this on a tape of a collection of 'Popular Mozart' and this was the exception - because its not well known - but it should be.
It's a gem.
Thank you.

writing off truly beautiful music as fluff, guarantees that one will encourage awful music like this
nakedBison69 2 years ago
I like sharp and bold music like this. Not exceptional, not bad at all. It has a no nonsense feeling to it and I like this a lot.

Hello PontyTail
Beethoven, Schubert, etc returned to the fugue.
Please surprise me with examples.
Mozart K551 last move. Brahms 4th Symp last movement and then we........?

Mozart was only in his mid thirties, I'm not sure he knew he was dying when he wrote this. You do make a good point however

:) That's a really good comment Pointy.
Jalapablo 2 years ago 3
@PointyTail Youre correct. But remember Mozart was only around 26 when he wrote this one.
mrbrianmccarthy 1 year ago
@mrbrianmccarthy He did die at 35, though. And I'm guessing that there's a lot of people that would agree that he was rather advanced for his time.

That's... really quick for an Adagio. Who's playing this?
lavielamorttoutca 3 years ago 4
You have reason: the Adagio is quite such a Presto. The Staatsoper of Dresden was playing this.
Mattmerg93 3 years ago
@Mattmerg93 adagio is too fast and too dynamic, i would have done it more in a baroque style... yet the fugue is perfect!!! really great!
