as with front ferries, you have to control your angle relative to the current using your body rotation and paddle placement, or you get grabbed and swept downstream, which is what happened the second time. What makes it more difficult is you have to either turn around and look at the current, or use your spider sense to control your angle by sheer instinct.. Might even be harder in a long boat because of the leverage factor, I dunno.

the reverse ferry is always a bitch in boats that are short, and slow and with low volume..its essentially a slalom move. teaching reverse ferrys this way in that type of boat is a problem. better to cut in facing upstream and when pointed downstream go into your reverse ferry, and better control and river position can be acheived. i would argue that teaching reverse ferry gliding that way in short low volume boats is not the best

The objective of ferry gliding is to move in a striaght line across a river without being pushed downstream.
