Everytime I see guys doing dance numbers from 1960's variety shows, I can't help but laugh and think of how SCTV did skits about this.... Rick Moranis and Juul Hallmyer.
This song, by Lee Hazlewood [his first for her], was released at the time she sang this on {"name of variety show"} in 1965. It wasn't a "Top 10" hit. It wasn't until Nancy became a "California blonde", and recorded "Boots" (also by Hazlewood) that she became a "hit".
She is singing out of tune. Out of tune at 1:43 to mention but one bad note. In fact she is not really singing at all, she is talking the song. I guess if you're Frank Sinatra's daughter you can't be told you can't sing, so you become a star.
@oakincornwall Well, it's more a question about looking cool and they sure did. And what is bad or good dancing? I laugh my ass off when I watch some of today's boy bands (or boy bands from the 90s), looking as they're doing work out or something. Not to mention their stupid clothes.
This song fascinates me in that the lyrics don't ever seem to be discussed. It marks the beginning of the Hazlewood years, her marriage to Tommy Sands had just ended, and her early sappy songs that never took off are a thing of the past. So enters a song about failure and leaving and picking up the pieces and misunderstood songs. It sounds like a kissoff to both Sands and to her own sweet, innocent days. To me, that's what makes it a brilliant song. Lee Hazlewood was a genius.
When she clocks the camera focussing on her at 1:38 and then, after looking so distant and nonchalant, cracks a cheeky, wickedly knowing smile..........
Begorrah, excuse me while I change my nethercrackers!
I wish some people would look and listen and think b 4 making there comments !
Nancy is singing live, a-long to the music track - and she's perfect. Let's see - I bought this album in Feb. 1966. Played this, and "I Move Around, a million times ! Nancy Sin, as I call her, is one of the top 10 female singers in Rock and Roll ! At the !:33 mark she gives that "eye's" and "head" nod, and smile and grin that makes her look so BEAUTIFUL. I LOVE NANCY
it is no wonder I had the biggest crush on Nancy back in the day...I still see those "go-go"boots.....of course as years went by i remember a certain magazine publication in which she was the "ladies" featured..and still looked great WOW!

@JimmyBoi2 Yes, range. She ran the gamut from A to B.

This song does not come close to Boots or the video made from it. You crazy Nor is it anywhere near You Only Live twice.

Nice dark hair, Nancy. Is it just me or does it make you look a bit like Maxwell Smart's secretary? Jack

@Hobbit997
She does look a bit like Barbara Feldon (Agent 99) from "Get Smart"-she wasn't Smart's secretary though!
