i remember i did a run to this and i thought it meant that life sucks no matter what. man up and deal with the situation at hand. am i completely wrong?
Everytime i feel depressed, hurt, jealous,or angry, this cadence motivates me to know that i worked for my shit.I earned my shit.Nobody gave it to me.It was earned. And that feels fucking great and motivates me to do better.Oo-mutherphucking-rah!
@common380 Or, Its a reference to the saying that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. It doesn't matter who wrote it, or why, all that matters is that it motivates people to push on through whatever hell they are going through.
VW may seem like a good idea (the grass on the other side of the fence), but in fact, staying and pushing through hell will earn you a title that can never be taken from you. Because whats earned, is yours forever.
what the hell you talking about "marine"? when did this 'run at night" take place? what is the name of the "DI" that took you on this run? by the way its The Marine Corps.
@TheGrimReaper0321 he is lying through his fucking teeth if not then boot has gone done alot in the past two years and he is a shit bag but i know it has gone done and the biggest shit bag knows how to speel corps
Favorite of all time, by a MILE. First heard it on our run on family day, although the DI didn't sing it like this, it was kinda a watered down version, that and we didn't know how it was supposed to be repeated so we repeated every line....lol
@TheCrazySweed I have heard and run to this cadence may times back in my day. My impression of it is this....Being a Marine is not for everyone, the grass is always greener on the other side. Being a civillian may be great for the bank account, great for makeing lots of money and haveing big houses...But being a Marine means that you can kick the shit out of that guy who did nothing to contribute to the afty of this great country and take his hous and bank account...but that is just me :)
@Noobkin30328 you heard your DI sing it last night and you also spelled Marine Corps wrong... You sir an idiot and not a Marine, cuz for one you wouldn't be able to post this during boot camp (that's the only place DI's exist in the Marine Corps) even on family day cuz i don't know of any DI that would run their platoon the night before hand.
@Noobkin30328 ummm i call huge bull shit there is no way in fucking hell u are on facebook and with a DRILL INSTRUCTOR last night plus for some reason if u were they dont sing these cadence till u finish crucible and u dont ever fucking call them DI if ur a recruit
the leading recruiter sang this today when we PTed...i didnt understand it because it switch "green grass" with "marine corps" the fucker can sing though i didnt mind it singing it with him at all...im in a marine corps pool btw
Have you heard the saying "The grass is always greener on the other side."? This cadence is telling you to not be fooled by that grass, whatever it may be. The grass ISN'T greener on the other side. Basically, it's saying that you shouldn't jump over to another side because you think the grass is greener over there. You should fight for your grass instead. When the DI says "Here we go to 1st Phase" and "Here we go Graduation", he's talking about you fighting through Boot and not giving up.
@Caedesus When you step foot onto paris island I am told it is beutiful. I just couldn't see it. For me this was strange as i found it to be one of the hardest places to live...lol Some of my greatest Marine Corps memories where there but the entire time I was there I never stopped to look. I went there to become a Mrine and I Went through phases1-2-3 and we had BWT(Basic warrior training) As hard as it was there I never changed my mind to become a Mrine... I remember this cadence and love it..
I swear everyday I miss the Corps and the things it brought to me. If it wasn't for the Marines I wouldn't be where I am today.

I'm sure Wilson Pickett is overjoyed you've all indulged yourselves in some psuedo-psychological meaning behind the song.
It's telling his lover not to leave for another guy. Quit reading into something thats not there.
