  • tell us more about the modification! Please!

  • thanks for the tip dude*

  • what does F22 and these numbers mean ?

  • f is the designation for aperture. f22 is a really small aperture and f1.2 is a huge aperture. Old school photographers (like me) love this guys lens. Want to take great natural light shots inside with a shallow depth of field? This is your lens at f1.2. Want to take a group photo with everyones face in focus. Use more light and a higher f stop.

  • @sabbathThebat how wide open or closed the circle inside the lens is

  • @sabbathThebat that show big the aperture is so ex. small f number like 3.5= Big aperture openeing and vice versa

  • @sabbathThebat how big or small the ring is in the lens. allowing a lot or little light. this is how dof is controled, by having a bigger f stop

  • greaattt... you have an f1.2 lens and a chip that "only" goes to 4.

you're still in the land of guess-the metering-and-modify while post processing.

  • hi, I don't undestand, where ir edit swich????

  • How does internal AF help? I have a D80. Does this mean that I magically get autofocus with manual lenses? Sorry, fail.

  • yes it is, but on some of the nikons it has to have AF-S to have autofocus

  • @georgeakapierz you don't get the point: first, autofocus is unnecessary, second, why should I buy new, inferrior lenses if I already have high quality glass. then again, I don't want to buy a bulky d300.

  • The guys voice sounds like Stephen Hawkins to me?...

  • LOL yeah it sorta does. xS

  • what's "sorta"??? I'm german

  • It means something a long the lines of "kind of". :)

  • ihave absolutly no idea what metering or aperture is would someone explain?

  • Wikipedia it.

  • Once you modified your camera so it can meter, can you use it in aperture priority beside manual metering?

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

  • How did you do the modification? I'd like to be able to use the manual focus lenses on my d60. I like the small size of the camera and to be able to work totally manually.

  • Manual focus lenses are better at manual focusing than AF ones are.

  • This isn't even about autofocus, it's about METERING.

    HELLO IN THERE.

  • light metering

  • haha he's obviously using old lenses cos new ones are expensive and he probably had loads of old ones, you think a guy who knows this much about cameras would not know its got a mf mode???!!!? haha

  • Mate, have you even search for pictures taken with MF lenses??? if not, do a little, compare with AF, and then answer yourself.

Older MF lenses go for as much, or even more than new Af. I recommend you to check on the nikkor 28mm f2.8 AI-S that goes for around 90 GBP.

  • well, i was just saying that he obviously knew you could manually focus an af lens. I said he might have lots of old mf lenses already. But the reason I said they were cheaper is that I shoot sony (minolta lenses) and very often on ebay you can find great quality mf lenses for under 20 euro, maybe its not the same story with nikon.

  • ok sorry mate, I missunderstood. I wish nikkor lenses (high range of nikon) would go cheap, matter of fact the one I mentioned before (and I want to buy again) just sold for 110 Pounds on ebay.

    -cheers.

  • That could have something to do with them being as good, or better than AF lenses.

  • NOT because someone told him to,

he wanted to do portraits and that is not what D40x has been made from...

    why didn't I use focus lock ?

because it would slow me even more than playing with one adjustment wheell in manual...

  • It's correctly pronounced as NEEKON! not Naaykon!

  • Haha you are funny! And you are totally RIGHT!

  • No, it's NICK-on. That is, if you're speaking english...

  • Click on "Statistics & Data" on this page and click on the first URL in "Sites linking to this video" and it will take you to the instructions. It took me about 15 seconds to find them.

  • hehe - my bad. Thanks for the info :) That's really great!~

  • That's a nice video - but, without any explanation of how to do it, it's pretty useless, isn't it?

How about letting us know how to do it?

  • Sorry my English.

Can you place a tutorial teaching to the Brazilian photographers as modifying the d40 to read the information of the manual lenses?

Does this modification implicate in placing new contact of bayonets or only software modification? Thanks.

  • How the chip be installed in the camera?

  • what lense are you using?

  • i knew that someone will have some issues...

    no offence mate,

but I had both of these cams (d40x, 400d) and my K10D borrowed

from my friends for 1 day with 50 1.4 lenses

you don't know how pissed off I was when I photographed in low light-

the details at ISO 1600 sucked, K10D was noisy but you still could see the details,

400D was 100% winner in this competition,

  • the next step for my "D40x-400D-K10D" was portrait,

with only 3 AF points and very little viwefinder (which would not be a problem if nikon would decide to put more AF points)

i had to switch to MF, which was not very comfortable...

400D was ok but I still missed those 3 more AF

    points from K10D...

    so,

who do you think won mmy "competition" (?)

after I told my friend about my experiences with D40x he sold it and bought... D80

  • I want that camera sooooooooooooo badly coz i am starting a photography course at colledge and i need a good chep DSLR camera

  • same..

  • Wot colledge you going to just out of interest lol?

  • wesley institute, in australia

  • cool lol good luck with it

  • nice toy, but if you want to use these old lenses seriously, get serious camera :)

  • cool were do you get these mods

  • nice work!
