No wonder she was "misbehaving" Boiga d. dendrophila are very susceptible to stress and that isnt very good for the snake, it is well known that B. dendro dendros dont do well in captivity without stress whether WC or CB, teasing it and frankly pissing it off isnt going to help it settle in. it would have been a much nicer video of such a beautiful animal you are fortunate enough to have obtained, by simply having him on the hook and putting him in his, im sure very large well laid out enclosure
you stupid motherfucker i hope someone shoots you in the head
i never treaded my mangrove snake like a bitch and she never bit me or is aggressive. Stupid fucksticks like you shouldnt have snakes. Buy a dog and hit him you crackbitch
I dont get why he keeps poking at this beauty! You can clearly see the diffrence from the start of video to the end at how stressed he made it...it was trying to avoid conflict of any kind at first!
yeah iv read peoples statements from getting bit from a mangrove and they say it is extreamly painful. like having thousands of needles stabbing you in the arm
I think you are mistaken as from what I've noticed there is a fairly large market for them, especially CBB individuals that are eating rodents. And yes, the venom is more effective on birds than it is on mammals such as humans because birds are a much larger part of their diet in the wild. However, the venom can still have a pretty nasty effect on mammals (including humans in some cases).
You also have to keep in mind that they have somewhat of an ineffective venom delivery system for envenomating humans, with that said you could still suffer a reaction to the bite.
Hey man. First of all, unlike a lot of people, I don't judge a snake handler's skill by age so you don't have to worry about that. If your dad is cool with you having them, then that's great.
I wouldn't say that they are "easy" to care for. They are mostly WC and often refuse rodents. In this case it is very annoying and expensive to feed them geckos or frogs. I was forced to feed mine geckos and I kept him in a 4'x2' cage where he had way more room than he needed.
The only legal way to ship venomous snakes (even rear fangs) is via Delta Dash, which is somewhere around $100. Personally, I find that insanely expensive seeing as it's often as much as the snake, if not more. There are a lot of venomous dealers in Florida though, so you should be able to find one within driving distance of you.
@Venomjunkie i live in NC, near winston-salem, and am looking to find the same supspecies of bogia in the video. could you tell me of any breeders in NC or nearby VA or TN. i don't want to drive more than 50-100 mi. if it can be helped, i don't want to pay a huge wad for shipping, i would rather pick up my own. thanks for your time.
@Dannybroadsword1 Sorry man, I'm not familiar with any breeders of these snakes. They're somewhat uncommon and you basically have to get lucky and come across a good batch of them as many of the imported ones come in with parasites and other fun diseases.
Are they somewhat easy to care for cuz i was considering buying a trio when my dad lets me get a few more snakes. No i'm not an adult who lives with his parent, I'm 12. Don't say you don't reccomend one because i have a ton of experience and know way more then you might think i do.I know what they eat but i've seen a lot that won't eat anything so what are you feeding yours? Also how big is the cage you're keeping him in? I know all the other info that i would need. Thx
I want ot know what the effect of the venom is like on people. I really love these snakes and I want to get one. It is hard to coherse my mom into geting one. I have experience in cathching bull, racer, king and many other snakes which are far less agressive. How much was he too. Beautiful snake. Plus do you need a permit for one?
The venom itself is quite potent. However, they lack the delivery system and large yield to put them on the level of front-fanged venomous snakes. It is a primarily neurotoxic venom I believe, with some effects being dizziness, headache, nausea, etc. This snake actually was not all that aggressive. It seems he is in this video because I just got him at the time. As for permits, it depends where you live. I live in PA and, therefore, do not need a permit. Price varies, but I got mine for $75.
Dendrophilas might be rather calm during the day(compared to how they behave at night) but they are still venomous animals. Animals like this have to be treated with respect (yes even if they are rearfanged). Some bites from Boiga's can be rather nasty and an anaphylactic (sry for spelling) is always possible. They're nothing compared to a cobra or a similiar snake, but underestimating them is never a smart idea...
hey i was thinking about getting one of these guys i got my first snake 4 months ago an amazon tree boa and i love her shes great and wnated to start expanding i will get another atb but also was looking into these guys do these guys feed well on mic or are they only into toads and anphibians and what were u saying about venom lol ?
she is just incredible the way shw stnds on the floor how she controls every centimiter of her body she knows whats gonna do in every moment just amazzing
Totally true Fepl, I didn't like the video that much mainly because he keeps winding the snake up, Boiga are quite a shy Sp. Doing this will not help it and probably make it stressed..... and do terrible in captivity
Thats a nice mangrove you got there. Ours has the same temperment, there fast, wait til he gets a bit bigger :)
Be careful when getting him out his viv though, we know someone who got tagged on the face by one, he wasn't impressed. Luckily there not all that venomous. There actually harder to handle than most vipers purely because of there length and stike. More like a mamba to handle. We onlt have one mangrove now, my dad got rid of the rest of his hots.
Ouch, a bite to the face would not be pleasant. I've been nailed in the face by a black racer before, which wasn't bad but I think the venom added in might complicate things a little lol.
Mine has actually calmed down quite a bit since this video and prefers to flee rather than fight. He hasn't struck at me in quite some time now.
I understand your concern and this was the only time I've done this. I had just gotten the snake and was trying to see if the reputation they have for being incredibly long strikers was true. I do not plan on doing anything like this again and that's why I wanted to video it the first time (hence the very unrehearsed mumbling between my friend and I lol). I guess I should have clarified that in the description because others have felt the same way as you do and I don't blame them.
hey, how old are you guys? how many snakes do you have, is the boiga dendrophila that hard to keep?whhere did you purchase it? finaly what size terrarium do you have?
We're 16 and each have 3 snakes. I have 1.1 Common Boas and 1.0 Mangrove Snake and my friend has 1.1 Ball Pythons and 0.1 Dumeril's Boa. Boiga dendrophila is a very hard species to keep successfully in captivity. I got it from Underground Reptiles in Florida and the cage is 4'x2'x15".
Where did I say I couldn't handle the snake? I've had her for almost two months now and I haven't had a single close call. I don't know where your coming from.
1st of all I don't like your attitude towards venomjunkie who according to my personal opinion he did well to buy a mangrove snake instead of having a copperhead or something similar, 2nd)Although yes he's very young to handle hot snakes still doesn't mean that you can't handle a snake with mild venom with responsibility such as boigas and 3rd) At his age I was handling large boids such as african rock python, retics and burms abou 2 to 4m length
No wonder she was "misbehaving" Boiga d. dendrophila are very susceptible to stress and that isnt very good for the snake, it is well known that B. dendro dendros dont do well in captivity without stress whether WC or CB, teasing it and frankly pissing it off isnt going to help it settle in. it would have been a much nicer video of such a beautiful animal you are fortunate enough to have obtained, by simply having him on the hook and putting him in his, im sure very large well laid out enclosure

you would probebly be better off with two hooks as it would be easier & better for the snake to be picked up from 2 parts of the body...

where do you get a snake like that?

They are available online from a variety of dealers, granted most of those available are WC and come in with numerous problems.
