Wikipedia says that AC2 is set at the end of the 15th century. So, the end of the 1400's. There are 2 data considered as the end of medieval times: the fall of Constantinople (1453) and the discovery of America (1492). So, the game is set in the Late Middle Ages. Renaissance is more cultural and started around 1350 (first in the Italian regions) and lasted till about 1600. So, no problem using this game in the ranking.

The second was in the 13/14 hundreds lasting about 1 hundred years which produced the artists and sciences. The 3rd was in Germany and France which developed definitive separation of cultures in Europe, late 1400's to 1500's. The official end to the middle ages is around mid to late 1500's.

The most widely accepted date is 1453 with the fall of Constantinople, others say 1492-97 with the discovery of the Americas by the European. It's all just perspective, as for the 'multiple renaissance' one era only was name likewise, stuff was discovered before too you know, some historian call 'em 'renaissances' other not...

@knightinboot Yea, its agreed to be in the 16th C. And there us a definitive period where it was no longer middle ages. It is bases on how far political, and social methods and practices had progressed , how defined new areas/cultures/countries borders were and how high the population was. And since these factors are ever changing in all of Europe, and never at the same rate in two different places, there is a window of ~100-150 years where the middle ages ended.

@Savage7046 It is not 'agreed' to be in the 16th at all :P I study history at the university, I've had this discussion over and over and most medieval specialist ( Ph.d ) will tell you that long story short it's around the fall of Constantinople is widely accepted to be the end of the middle ages. You can argue that it has lasted longer, I've studied a guy who claim the middle age finish in 1789, he had dozen and dozen of good point, but the thesis about 1453 had few thousand more :P

Which was after all, my main point.

As for the time period I realy think they sterotyp more then they help I assure Renaissance was full of Plague Deaths Massacres War Intrigue Assassinations Religious Persecution etc. After all the prime of Inquisicion was in Modern Period!
