blogs make no money unless it has a registered domain name, ive seen too many people try to make money with their blogspot account LOL then they complain that they have no clicks
@EricPalozziMarketing I agree. Just because free is an option, doesn't mean you should go that route to build a professional business. I am always turned off by "business" sites hosted on free services. Looks unprofessional and I don't take the site seriously. There's no cheaper business to start than a website business or blog so investing the $5-10 is worth it.

I never really thought about that, but you're right. You really have to be involved in your topic to stay with it... I personally just made my tech blog for my college news papers online content. I haven't made a dime, but I haven't been doing it very long. Not that it matters anyway because I'm going to keep doing what I do whether or not a single post is read.

Not only in my opinion does a person have to apply the principles of making money online they have to train to accomplish this task. When we want to become a trades person for example a person cannot just go out and do a trades position they have to train for that trade.
The internet is no different a person has to train for it and your chances of succeeding online will increase for you.

In working to build my site, I've started jotting notes for a business plan for my blog. I also have developed a daily/weekly list of activities for working on my blog. Darren Rowe's 31 Days to Build a Blog is good for this. It takes lots of persistence and some originality, as you talk about.

Did you just join? That's common for new members. If you're not new then your content may not be focused enough or there may not be enough ads in the database related to your content -- which is beyond your control.
About 80% of blogs never make it past a few months. Just your endurance to consistently provide fresh content to your blog beyond this time catapults you to the top 20%. I blogged and blogged in obscurity for months with no traffic and never made a dime. Until it finally turned around.
Made my blog, got one ad click so far, 0.44 pence :D im actually happy :) I know if i keep adding content and getting my blog known i can make some money! :D

Good question. You did not state whether you were displaying text ads or banner ads as well. Some banner ads solely pay CPM with no PPC payout. Some PPC ads pay very little - as low as .01.
how long did it take you to start getting alot of money from it? and in the program google adsense when you go to "reports" and in the side it says "ad sense for content" and to the right of that it says "page impressions" is the number under that the number of people that visted your blog

i made my website using the wordpress platform, because its simple and easy to post blogs. But just got adsense, and stuff, and i make like 225-70 cents a click on the ad? How come it says Hits = say 10 and my pageviews = 234? Whats the difference?
The reason why most new bloggers can't make any money by blogging is that they enter niches they don't know anything about and just want to make money because other successful bloggers are making huge money.

having a domain name builds credibility and looks more professional. You can make money with your blogger blog if you drive traffic to it and promote relevant products, though.

Yes! You are so right. When I started out doing online marketing, I started jumping from niche to niche. I realized that in order to be successful, you have to be an expert in something. If you jump around from doing pet products one week to insurance the next, you may not be as successful as someone who sticks with the same niche and finds different ways to expand their product.

me again. Now blogging is merely text, a product only in as much as if good enough many people may go to read it or even comment if an interactive blog. But that in itself cannot make money, surely? Only if google "sees" that the blog is popular (many hits?), assumes a large audience and starts to post tiny ads, and the site owner gets his click based money if viewers also happen to click on the ads, right? So cash only if a HELL of a lot of viewers, and who ALSO need to click on the ads, right?
AdSense is not the only way to make money from a blog. You can also make money from affiliate programs. If you check my blog, I don't have any of those ads you speak of. I make more by referring my visitors to products I recommend and get a commission. There are many ways to make money from a blog (advertisers, affiliate links, etc.) Ads aren't the only way. You should diversify your monetization portfolio... just like stocks.
OK, got it, thanks. So someone would have to click on the product you recommend 'within' your blog since that will show the electronic trail back to you, and make you eligible for the commission. If someone made a note of a url and keyed that in manually, one would see nothing i presume.
U got it. And if they typed in the URL it works the same. You still get a commission. And with most programs they can even come back to the main company site a day or two later without using your affiliate URL because they are still wearing the tracking cookie so you'll still get the commission. (As long as they don't clear their browser cookies)
Lisa, can I have your opion on the following: In the past it seems that keywords were the thing that "got you (or your site) to the top of the list". I am now told that e.g. google these days uses far more refined selection processes and "looks for quality content" now rather than just keywords. So whatever criteria they use they somehow manage to determine whether a site really has quality content. Can you confirm this? Can one even avoid now trying to use the all important "keywords"? They determine your quality by your number of backlinks (people linking to your site). So the more related, quality sites that are linking to you, the more relevant your site will appear to Google for whatever keywords you're targeting. It's actually a very good system because anyone can load their site with keywords but hundreds of people linking to a site (without a link exchange) says a lot about its quality as most people aren't going to link to worthless sites. I love it.

First research the various ways you can make money and then decide on the option you feel fits your skills. Affiliate marketing? Sell products? MLM? Choose the method you feel fits your strengths and then go from there. There are several ways to make money and it's all about learning how to build traffic and generate customers. The concept is the same no matter which method you try but you still have to learn about marketing.
Great video. I think it is good to think of ways that your blog can be monetized before you even begin. Think of diffent income streams and not just rely on adsense which you need lots of traffic to benefit from anyway. Have an ebook to promote or be an affiliate or something. Don't just rely on ads.

I never really thought about that, but you're right. You really have to be involved in your topic to stay with it... I personally just made my tech blog for my college news papers online content. I haven't made a dime, but I haven't been doing it very long. Not that it matters anyway because I'm going to keep doing what I do whether or not a single post is read.

my site is movielinkboy.blogspot.coOm and i would love your help. It is fairly new and has a long way to go. Its a site that allows user to watch movies online free. Via second party hosts. There are only a handful of sites that do this without charging or something sneaky. But my is still a baby and serves about 40 movies but yes i know the goal is thousands. Not only in my opinion does a person have to apply the principles of making money online they have to train to accomplish this task. When we want to become a trades person for example a person cannot just go out and do a trades position they have to train for that trade.
The internet is no different a person has to train for it and your chances of succeeding online will increase for you.

Just came across your video. Thanks for it. I'm not making money off my blog; right now I'm just trying to build readership. I don't even have ads on my blog. But your point is well taken. In working to build my site, I've started jotting notes for a business plan for my blog. I also have developed a daily/weekly list of activities for working on my blog. Darren Rowe's 31 Days to Build a Blog is good for this. It takes lots of persistence and some originality, as you talk about.

Did you just join? That's common for new members. If you're not new then your content may not be focused enough or there may not be enough ads in the database related to your content -- which is beyond your control.

About 80% of blogs never make it past a few months. Just your endurance to consistently provide fresh content to your blog beyond this time catapults you to the top 20%. I blogged and blogged in obscurity for months with no traffic and never made a dime. Until it finally turned around.

Good question. You did not state whether you were displaying text ads or banner ads as well. Some banner ads solely pay CPM with no PPC payout. Some PPC ads pay very little - as low as .01.

The reason why most new bloggers can't make any money by blogging is that they enter niches they don't know anything about and just want to make money because other successful bloggers are making huge money.
I agree with you, Lisa. They are not engaged!
Why not create a blog or website around something you enjoy and know a lot?! Why not try to solve people's problem in your niche instead of stealing other's content?

I'm very impressed with your video and couldn't agree with your more....However having suffered from information overload in recent times myself I have sympathy with any one coming online today.
By no stretch of the imagination have I had the same length of experience you have, but I would imagine say 10 or 11 years ago certain things were clearer and competition was less in certain areas.
Your video is a real eye opener for people, I hope they take notice!

The most successful internet websites are ones that apply features in real life such as widening their contact details from just email and e-comments to things like phone and fax.
On things like a blog these might not be specifically needed, though in a bussiness point of view, they're ideal.

Yes! You are so right. When I started out doing online marketing, I started jumping from niche to niche. I realized that in order to be successful, you have to be an expert in something. If you jump around from doing pet products one week to insurance the next, you may not be as successful as someone who sticks with the same niche and finds different ways to expand their product.

me again. Now blogging is merely text, a product only in as much as if good enough many people may go to read it or even comment if an interactive blog. But that in itself cannot make money, surely? Only if google "sees" that the blog is popular (many hits?), assumes a large audience and starts to post tiny ads, and the site owner gets his click based money if viewers also happen to click on the ads, right? So cash only if a HELL of a lot of viewers, and who ALSO need to click on the ads, right?

AdSense is not the only way to make money from a blog. You can also make money from affiliate programs. If you check my blog, I don't have any of those ads you speak of. I make more by referring my visitors to products I recommend and get a commission. There are many ways to make money from a blog (advertisers, affiliate links, etc.) Ads aren't the only way. You should diversify your monetization portfolio... just like stocks.

OK, got it, thanks. So someone would have to click on the product you recommend 'within' your blog since that will show the electronic trail back to you, and make you eligible for the commission. If someone made a note of a url and keyed that in manually, one would see nothing i presume.

U got it. And if they typed in the URL it works the same. You still get a commission. And with most programs they can even come back to the main company site a day or two later without using your affiliate URL because they are still wearing the tracking cookie so you'll still get the commission. (As long as they don't clear their browser cookies)

Lisa, can I have your opion on the following: In the past it seems that keywords were the thing that "got you (or your site) to the top of the list". I am now told that e.g. google these days uses far more refined selection processes and "looks for quality content" now rather than just keywords. So whatever criteria they use they somehow manage to determine whether a site really has quality content. Can you confirm this? Can one even avoid now trying to use the all important "keywords"? Many thx

They determine your quality by your number of backlinks (people linking to your site). So the more related, quality sites that are linking to you, the more relevant your site will appear to Google for whatever keywords you're targeting. It's actually a very good system because anyone can load their site with keywords but hundreds of people linking to a site (without a link exchange) says a lot about its quality as most people aren't going to link to worthless sites. I love it.

Very very good video. You're a very smart women. I know exactly what you're trying to say. You are right, its wrong to just copy and paste the content from someone elses blog to your own. But if you see something interesting on someones website, it is OK to write a similar yourself (without copying it), as long as you use your words and really understand what you are writing. Because other sites has most likely already written about it.

First research the various ways you can make money and then decide on the option you feel fits your skills. Affiliate marketing? Sell products? MLM? Choose the method you feel fits your strengths and then go from there. There are several ways to make money and it's all about learning how to build traffic and generate customers. The concept is the same no matter which method you try but you still have to learn about marketing.
