it's really a motown- jackson 5,'' type'' of song. chords, backup vocals, bass, ect. I know it's a james taylor song, but i think he probably liked the jackson-5.
@martinlehfeldt I bet he loved the jackson 5 & I completely agree with the Jackson 5 "type" especially the bass line is very reflective of J5's "I want you back".
Are you people kidding me? My dear Ms. Blige has nailed this song. I have never been a big MJB fan, but, hats off to you girlfriend. That bass line is just too groovy to handle....
@controversyking This song was done for charity, it didn't appear on any album of hers and she did not profit from it in any way. For every dollar donated crest gave free toothbrushes and toothpaste to a homeless kid, thats why they asked her to sing YOUR SMILING FACE.
When was this recorded? I'm not really caring for Mary's cover right here... I've never heard the original so.... BUT... I am a Mary fan... and if you're not feeling the song... don't sing it, we older now it's harder to find it inside you to sing good if you aint feeling it... especially after 21 years in the game like Mary has, can you imagine how many songs she has song, how many times she has song the same songs, concert after concert... at some point it has to become monotonous!!!
this was used for a toothpaste thing that mary was backing to help young youths get toothpaste and dental check up its a remake of a james taylor song
Thanks for putting this up she sounds good as ever here and Mary has so many unreleased songs maybe one day the queen will put a compilation of them onto an album.
Imagine her doing this with Dakota Moon, would be awesome !!!!! Check out Dakota Moon's cover on youtube. Dakota Moon your smiling face.

For someone who grew up on James Taylor, I am rather impressed with her version, so all you haters can leave.

Theres a difference between covering a song and taking lyrics or music without giving credit, dumbass.

She is one non-singing women. Thanks for not releasing it. Well she could have released it without the singing, cause the track is nice.
