  • --> CELTIC FROST  \m/

  • Great song!

  • MEXICO LINDO Y BONITO !!!

  • Classic.

  • Is this the original song?

  • yep

  • i like this song my dad showed this to me, and it was stuck in my head all day @ skol! lol

the ending freaked out my sis :-)

  • lol i remember this video on beavis and butthead when they were in mexico!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Which one was it? Because I wanna see it.

  • Incredible song/video. I heard a couple of covers by Authority Zero, and some effing Mexican boy-band called "Kinky;" although I thought the one by Authority Zero was pretty good, neither of them held a candle to the original.

  • hear the celtic frost cover of this song

  • i love the harmonica in this, its awesome

  • Oh, and the biggest reason it wasn't one of the first 50 on MTV was that it wasn't recorded until almost a year after MTV was on the air.

  • 1."Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles - MTV Video

    Correct.

2."You Better Run" by Pat Benatar - MTV Video

    Incorrect.

As someone who was actually watching when MTV went from a test pattern to videos, I can state with certainty that the 2nd video ever aired on MTV was "Time Heals" by Todd Rundgren. Everyone gets it wrong because the MTV archives have it wrong.

  • sec. 1:09

  • Country punk.

  • what???? these guys were a thrash metal band? always wondered who the f*&% these guys were and if they ever had another hit...original & crafty song....just saw the video for the 1st time on 80's video show~

  • Actually the first three videos were:

1."Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles - MTV Video

2."You Better Run" by Pat Benatar - MTV Video

3."She Won't Dance With Me" by Rod Stewart - MTV Video

I love this song, but this didn't even make it into the first 50 songs on MTV...

  • yeah but mexican radio holds up. si o no?

  • Gotta love the 1st song played on MTV

  • Bigdsears... your an idiot.

  • Classic... l love this song 80's music was the best nothing compares to the 80's music,So many memories for me,I sure do miss that era

  • Ummm... Mexican is a nationality.

  • never thought i would see this song and video again its simply amazing song love wall of voodoo R.I.P joe Nanini :(

  • This video is 27 years old now!

It was filmed over Labor Day Weekend in September of 1982.

  • I've had this song stuck in my head for about a week. If I don't stop humming it, I suspect my friends will hire someone to have me tossed into a canyon...

  • I promote Stan and his walll of woodoo. Prince of the weirdoes

  • the singer looks like my history teacher

  • Damn, wish my history teacher was a epic singer that likes singing about radio, in Mexico.

  • R.I.P.

    Drummer Joe Nanini: 12/4/2000,

    Guitarist Marc Moreland: 3/13/2002

  • First time I saw his head come out of the pot of beans, I thought that was brilliant video storytelling - still love this after all these years - thanks!

  • Lead singer looks like Griffin Dunne, Tedy Bruschi on portable keyboard, the drummer looks happy and content.

  • he kind of does look like Dunne except his hair is a little bit more frizzy

  • The lead singer is Stan Ridgway (born April 8th, 1954), the portable keyboard player is Chas Gray (born 1957 I believe?) and the drummer is Joe Nanini (born 1955): Joe died on December 4th, 2000. :-(

Stan (at age 55) still makes music, comes out with solo albums and tours around the country. I want to see one of his shows!

  • I was a total Journey geek in high school. I got home one day, Grandma was visiting, I got some alone time with MTV while they were out on the patio. I flipped when I saw this video. Changed my whole life. In the last couple of years, I met Stan and Pietra thanks to a bold friend and I was nearly speechless like a baby. They looked ten feet tall. I shook their hands, they were gracious, probably amused and afterward I cried on the walk home I was so happy.

  • Anyone else think Animal Collective rips from these guys?

  • They sort of remind me of Animal Collective. The eccentricity, the quirky instrumentals, etc.

  • its a tiny stage, they are down in mexico, not enough room

  • First time i seen a vid with band members so close together also...pretty cool uh?

  • spm sang this song too huh...

  • Heard this song at the tail end of a Seinfeld episode and thought this song was so cool. One of my favs.

    XDD!!

  • Comment removed

  • Im just joking, I saw someone else say it so i did it to piss you off.

    Don't be so serious man.

    haha.

  • stan's facial "expression's" make this video lol

  • I always think it's funny how scrunched/close together in proximity the band members look in this video.

Usually when a band plays or pretends to play (even in a music video), they are more spread out than these guys are in this video; the guitarist (Marc Moreland RIP) and keyboardist (Chas Gray) are preactically touching each other.

  • Great song. One of my favorites.

  • " I wish I was in Tijuana

    eating barbecued iguana "

  • A friend of mine knew the writer of this song, and at one time I had the actual Korg drum machine used in this song. It had the beat still programmed into it and I would fire it up at parties and do a kareoke version. One time a puff of smoke came out and it died along with most of the disposable sounds from the 80s. There will be no antique drum machines.

  • Hey, I still have my drum machine from '87 and it works great! BOSS Dr Rhythm DR-220.

  • Fuckin ace band, what a song...

Anyone heard the Celtic Frost version?

Not a patch on this :)

  • I thought it was a really weird combo, thrash metal band doing a novelty song.

  • If I had a theme song for my work, this would be it.

  • LOL! Me too. Especially the "Can't understand just what does he say?"

  • 80s forever

  • definitely captures the weird experimentation in music during 1983. either way stan sounds like a nerdy cowboy but all the same i love this song.

  • I feel a hot wind on my shoulder and a touch of a world that is older

  • the funniest song ever!!!!!! i love it lol 5 stars and faved

  • This song was in duets! It was hilarious seeing Paul Geimatti in the car listening to this and being hilarious!

  • yeah!!!

  • This is a great song to listen to on a raod trip to Mexico.

  • great song

  • I wish I was Ensenada, eating dog and cat enchiladas!

  • kukk

  • Greatness

  • The abstract brilliance of this song still confuses idiots today! Viva WoV

  • The first time I saw them on TV was on American Bandstand. It must have been 1982. I was blown away. I've listened to Stanard since then. He's put out some really awesome music.... love his voice and style. He's the essence of cool.

  • great stuff early mtv.

  • i wish i was in tiawana eating barbaqued iguana

  • Hey Senior try the Armadillo too.

  • no comprende???

  • what year did this song come out

  • 1982 on the album Call of the West

  • OK, ummm like, dude, like Junior High was like 27 years ago? Whooa! Cool. Right on. Huh huh... uh huh? her!

    "Those were the days..."!

  • My God, this song is catchy...

  • I know!

I turned it on because I like the spm rap version of it.

and at first I thought it was incredibly stupid, but didn't turn it.

    not I actually like it.

  • Thanks, clintny2006, that takes me back.

  • this band and song are one of the best songs that i ever heard in my life!! if the band was a 1 hit wonder it dont make them bad like JINZODUDE SAID!! stan is a clone of all paccino when he was young!! why they never played in mexico??

their song talk about mexico!! anyway a great band like the vapors too!!

    wall of voodoo rules!!!!!

y yo soy mexicano asi que viva mexico cabrones!!!!!!!!

  • The singer reminds me of Les Claypool.

  • i searched this and i got some gay rap thing

    love this song!

  • this song is friggin funny

  • Lead vocalist Stan Ridgway has produced a lot of great material in his solo career. I especially like his album "Mosquitos".

  • one of the coolest songs i ever heard. first saw it on pop-up video in like 98. loved it ever since.

  • i love this song but i have no idea what its about

  • I heard it was about them being surprised hearing one of there songs on the radio in mexico cause they were not very big at the time, something like that. someone correct this if it's wrong

  • Fuck I miss the 80's, the cold war, president reagan, better music, original oakley blade's, apartheid, what the fuck happened, the world sure has gone down hill.

  • "Ain't it the truth..."

  • WHAT this song is a classic

  • well just 'cause the song was good doesn't mean they were....this band was a 1 hit wonder

  • MTV did have one good game show called Remote Control and Liquid Television. I have the complete Aeon Flux on DVD ( and I don't mean the crappy movie)

  • I listen to this song and for a moment, I'm an 18 year old kid on liberty in Tijuana on a hot August afternoon in 1982.

  • MEXICAN RADIO = OUR COUNTRY'S NEW RADIO CAUSE OF IMMIGRANTS = OBAMA IS A MEXICAN Ban This President! NOW.

  • 1st of all you don't ban a president and 2 obama isn't mexican and what would matter if he was so get your facts strait and don't trash talk president obama cause you couln't do better

  • Shut up about Obama-you bucktoothed monkey and enjoy the music.

  • Well the band wasn't one that expected to be famous nor did they really like it so it wouldn't suprise me if they weren't into making a music video.

  • the guy on the keyboards looks po'ed and board

  • Towlie, in response to your query about if I was only calling you out because you're talking out against the government, no, I didn't call you out for that reason. It's because you only cited your sources as "Look it up on Google." Google is a search engine that finds anything put up on the internet, not an actual source.

  • I was being sarcastic with the Google bit, and no, Google is one of my last places to look for info.

You didn't answer me though, I wasn't speaking against the Government, I was addressing the President,

  • I'm on a Mexican (Radio)

  • oh man what a great song, i haven't heard it in years.

  • Hey Towlie, it's the internet. You can't take everything you read there as gospel truth.

  • Ofcourse you can't, that's obvious

But tell me, is it just because It's Obama I'm addressing that makes you want to doubt me?

    I'm getting that vibe.

  • i understand. just a little. no comprende. haha]

  • We are all in the stone age..

  • chido one!!!!!!

  • haha mexican radios

  • Makes me puke.

    All over the world.

Accept Tyranny 'cos the TV Whores say so, and the appointed Puppets are fluffy, dreamy-eyed Soap Opera wannabes...

  • Coverage. Or is it Social Darwinism?

  • yep .. peace and flowers . lol. consciousness for 09'

  • this is my childhood right here!!!!

  • lovewon. onelove

  • now.. i can enjoy mexican radio again

  • They wont get any richer under him and their children are getting killed in Iraq so that Bush and his corporate friends can keep making tons of money off the oil and political chaos over there. The pres. btw doesnt run the united states. BIG American corporations do. The pres. is merely a spokesman for big corporate interest

  • Don't worry, now's everything peace and flowers...

    Right?

Under Project Black Bush, Obama, the Red!

  • Obama has made 1 trillion more dollars in 6 months bush took 2 ½ years to do the same

  • Made?

People used to get arrested for printing fake money...

For, let's see, PETA, all his cronies, and now he's up to his Eugenics "kill the old" "Medical" covreage.

  • Guess where a few hundred million of that money came from?

    (Yes I want an answer.)

  • Since you don't wanna answer.

He's cutting the money from Social Security, yes, he's taking the health benefits from the elderly. Some will commit suicide.

Don't believe me? Look it up on Google. They want to make clinics to help the elderly commit suicide,

That's what you get for Electing a Tyrant in the making.

  • lol, you're so deluded, it's scary. I hope he does become a tyrant, just so the paranoid and wholly unjustified fears of maniacs like you end up actually having some credibility. For irony's sake.

  • lol...just another misguided kid thinking he knows politics.

I didn't look at Twitter for the Health care bill Obama was so quick to passing.

    Good fight.
