Read the book of Daniel; Only 4 worldly empires are mentioned that will take us to the return of the Son Of Man. Babylon-(Medes/Persians)-Greek­s-and the last empire. The people of the last empire & antichrist will cut off the son of man (ie. Jesus was crucified) & destroy the temple (ie. destroyed 70AD during Roman Empire). It doesn't name the last empire, but we know it as the Roman empire.It was not named perhaps because this last empire goes by many names. Rome never died - it just morphed.

I am Catholic and Mr. Pitre's explanation of 1 Thess 4:13ff cannot be squared with St. Paul's explicit meaning in the text. Moreover, the Apostle exhorts Christians to "comfor one another with these words". His scoffing at the idea of Jesus reigning on earth from Zion is at odds with the entire body of Old Testament prophecy.
