Wow. This is very rare for the time. Too bad the paint scheme really doesn't exist anymore. This engine is museum-worthy when it's retired in my opinion. Is it still in the C&O paint or did they paint it over?
Thanks man! A lot of the cars in that train like the "San Fe"s have really old wheels, in fact, they cannot even be interchanged w/ other roads. Some of the noise though is due to the WSOR having mostly jointed rail where there are joints about every 39 feet, which causes more of a clickity clack sound. Most of the bigger roads have welded rail, where there is only a joint every quarter milem
Very great video IC6071, thanks a million for sharing, and going out to get the video. Gosh that K5LA that 4617 has never gets old.. A good one! Two very good sounding SD40's in this video. - Mike Mullins
Totally great video! You even got the safety barrier gate again like I requested! Thank you ever so much! I just wish I knew what kind of lights were on those gates. Favorites and 5 stars!
CSXT 4617 is one of the last three SD40s remaining in service on the CSX roster. CSX 4617 was originally built for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway back in 1966, original road number was 7534. You guys in Wisconsin got a treat by seeing the last unit remaining in C&O colors on the CSX roster.
The other two units are CSXT 4601 and 4602, both are ex-Louisville & Nashville #1233 and 1234 respectively.
A slight correction WV1. 4617 is the last of 4 or 5 of the SD40's now, although I'm not sure of all of the numbers. 4617 is supposedly on the verge of retirement/to-a-new-home at anytime. 4617 was also delivered to the C&O in 1971, right at the Chessie Merger.
BTW, if any of you were wondering, the job out to Monroe currently runs three days a week: Monday Wednesday, and Friday, although, I heard they were talking about making it a 5 day a week job due to the usually large output by Badger Ethanol Plant in Monroe WI.

Great horn action! You did great job multitasking too, by holding the camera in one hand and the umbrella in the other lol.

Uh, what don't people get, that even when the gates are going up, if the lights are flashing, the road is still closed until the lights stop flashing

Nope, WSOR didn't repaint this. It was just in town for a couple of days. I was really suprised to see it take the JMR out though.

Yeah, that is one of those gates that is supposed to stop a vehicle doing 30. It might even be faster, I'm not sure.
