Rickson would still kill anybody on the ground, I've seen him train in person at IJJ (International Jiu Jitsu) in California. He still has an unbelieveable mastery BJJ. And neither Rickson nor Royce ducked Sauraba, their managers did. Royce was on steroids for the deteriorating muscle tissue in his legs, doctor prescribed ladies and gentlemen. He didn't cheat just preserved what he already had to begin with.

Rickson is a Great fighter and a Legend. Respect is given. This is my personall opinion. I think if you took his exact skill set when he was in his prime compared to some light heavy weights and even Anderson Silvia at Middle weight he would of lost. The game has evolved soo much. @tyloshi96 Helio Gracie didn't create anything Maeyda brought the technique over from Japan. He tought Carlos Gracie and Helio Gracie. BJJ gets its root from Kano Ju Jitsu AKA Judo.

He you read the book Mind over Muscle by Kano he talks about pulling guard, he states that if striking was utilized it could subdue the usefullness of guard AKA Ground and Pound. I trained with Rickson and Luis Heredia back in the mid 1990's in West Los Angeles. Not only is he the best teacher but in my book Rickson will always be the best fighter I've ever met.
to be honest id rather lose at least once in my life than go undeafeted. you can learn alot more from defeat than you can from winning constantly and about this whole stand up against floor grappling its pathetic, jiu jitsu is a very affective martial art but there are others, a particular martial art suits a particular person just dont say which is better because they all have strength and weakness's..just sayin :)

Easy to say when you're sitting in front of a PC. I've love to see you fight Matt Hughes when he first started in the UFC. 90% of his fights are purely wrestling and I'm sure he's done alright for himself...5 times UFC Welter weight champ. He's only in the last 2-3 yrs developed a stand up game.

@88mlhen the 400 were mostly grappling matches with students in training and some clowns who challenged him behind closed doors,his fight record is 11 wins from 11 fights against nobody good.He is an 8th degree red and black which has nothing to do with ability,its time in grade.Hes also not a grandmaster which is 9th degreered belt.He has 1 loss in a sambo match when he got thrown for ippon.He is a great grappler but not fighter,he never proved that.

Rickson would still kill anybody on the ground, I've seen him train in person at IJJ (International Jiu Jitsu) in California. He still has an unbelieveable mastery BJJ. And neither Rickson nor Royce ducked Sauraba, their managers did. Royce was on steroids for the deteriorating muscle tissue in his legs, doctor prescribed ladies and gentlemen. He didn't cheat just preserved what he already had to begin with.

@SkemeKOS the only reason royce won fights was because his opponents had no real fighting experience under those rules or else had no grappling ability.He was pulled after ufc 5 because people were copping on to grappling and better fighters were emerging on the scene.Royce didnt evolve ,thats why he couldnt win now plus the fact that he wasnt athletic.There are no champs in legitimate combat sports that arent athletic(fast,strong and explosive).

Rickson is a Great fighter and a Legend. Respect is given. This is my personall opinion. I think if you took his exact skill set when he was in his prime compared to some light heavy weights and even Anderson Silvia at Middle weight he would of lost. The game has evolved soo much. I dont think it is fair to compare him to guys now. If he was in his prime im sure he would evolved into a champion today.

@tyloshi96 Helio Gracie didn't create anything Maeyda brought the technique over from Japan. He tought Carlos Gracie and Helio Gracie. BJJ gets its root from Kano Ju Jitsu AKA Judo.

@scarred10 I do agree that Helio learned from Carlos, but the concept of BJJ was being done in Japan before Maeda ever even left. He you read the book Mind over Muscle by Kano he talks about pulling guard, he states that if striking was utilized it could subdue the usefullness of guard AKA Ground and Pound. I am a BJJ blue belt so I have respect for the art. BJJ and Judo are like Protestants and Catholics. Same vision different approaches.

Cuz i train it myself =) but i got stand up also and not only grappling skills.
That's martial arts.
Nogueira for example can't stand up with any fighter cuz he will get his ass beaten so he must go to the ground with them to win, martial art is something called self defense and should be learned to all in right way and not like that.
That wont happen if 2 guys will attack you at the same time...

Easy to say when you're sitting in front of a PC. I've love to see you fight Matt Hughes when he first started in the UFC. 90% of his fights are purely wrestling and I'm sure he's done alright for himself...5 times UFC Welter weight champ. He's only in the last 2-3 yrs developed a stand up game.

You also gotta realise Matt Hughes is like 35/36 and yeah the fighters coming through the ranks now are the shit and will get better just because people went "Oh I need a better ground game" or "Oh I need a stand up game" you can't compare now and then. At his prime time we was the shit. Right now he's still a threat but not as big a one. But I doubt you could take him on. So don't front otherwise you'd be in the UFC or some orgranisation.

What's sweden have to do with anything? Dude fear is part of life it's how you deal with it that's important and again like like I said. Matt Hughes is developing a stand up game or has developed one but once a wrestler always a wrestler. But at his age he won't have many more fights in him because younger guys will get better and get better than he ever was. But some of the dudes that he fights like Serra aren't that young either so I'll wait and see who the up and comers are.

Maybe you should go to sherdog and check out his stats before you claim that he would never amount to being such a great fighter. Last time i checked UNDEFEATED in mma is pretty good record.
