  • It sounds like a Sega Master System game.

  • this game looks like its missing something after playing the NES version ps that ship is travling up uranis round a courner threw a tube and out your noze

  • Have you output this over RF?

  • ACK! it's smiling!

  • have you ever played GTA SA?

well, there's a minigame inside the main game, called "they crawled from uranus", and I just realized that it's the copy of this awesome game!!!

  • @Alaska1925 i was just about to say that too :D

  • Some badass tunes for Coleco vision.

  • Ah, I always loved this game along with Tempest.

    Still got both. :)

The Colecovision was such a great console.

  • Good review. I was such a big fan of Gyruss back in the day. And the music is so awesome...it really gets your adrenaline pumping while you're playing. I've only played the Colecovision and NES versions. I like the Coleco better, but I liked the addition of boss battles on the NES version. I would love to see a minorly tweaked and updated with better graphics but not too overboard for the PS3.

  • goddamnit I want a colecovision

  • It looks like a smiley face at the end. I don't see a middle finger

  • I remember a game like this that could be played in GTA: San Andreas on the TV in CJ's house.

  • The music at the beginning sounded like a Dracula movie soundtrack.

  • GIIIIIII RUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • The best version of this game is on the NES. That version is even superior to the arcade version.

  • oo man when he died in the end it was soo funny

  • Gyruss rocked!

  • 3 warps to uranus

  • The correct pronunciation is "Jesus".

  • @vittau

With a capital "J" because He is Thy Lord.

  • BLEAH ! ! ! ! !

  • The music is so close to Power Rangers at that one point ....The original Power Rangers ...don't look at me like that.

  • im guessing this is about 8 bits

  • It sounds exactly like the Atari XL version i played ages ago.

Whatever format you play it,it's a great game even to this day.

  • lol 3 warps to URANUS hahahahahahaha

  • sounds a lot like the music for tetris on the gameboy.

  • Why does this game remind me about the minigame in gta san andreas?

  • @Guitaristmaniacfin yeah this is the game they spoofed indeed....

  • I'm guessing the game was happy because it appeared in Classic Game Room, that's why it smiled.

  • play this game with the tempest spinner

  • Little Miss Gamer did a review of the NES version, but I guess you can also pick up the arcade original on the Xbox Live Arcade.

  • i have this game cartridge for the Atari 400 computer, it is to this day, a fucking amazing game.

  • LMAO at the coincidental smiley face @ the Game Over screen. XD

  • Oh Mein Gott!!! It's full of staaaars!!!!

  • looks like a gta sa minigame

  • love this game have a 48 in 1 arcade machine what an amazing game

  • i love this game it was my favorite i wish i could find the arcade game

  • lol "3 warps to uranus"

  • Found Colecovision Gyruss at the flea market for $5.00 last summer.Couldn't believe how good this games is.The music is really sweet!the CV does so well at that, that goes for graphics too!I love the CV,tons of great games.

  • ? can you use the trackball on this one

and remember to watch out for them Klingon's near URanus lol my bad

  • i still cant believe how great this music is for the time. the colecovision kicks ataris ass, to bad it didn't last very long

  • Trolled by the game. You're playing a Konami title, all right.

  • jesus lol

  • A game over with a smile thats nice! :)

  • reminds me that game in gta sa in cj's house

  • lol the smile at the end

  • that ending was funny they had i smiley face

  • That music makes it sound like your in a rickety old ship puttering its way through space.

  • Check out gyrus on the NES. better than the arcade even. boss fights and everything!!

  • Tried it, NES version is too easy. With only one difficulty level, you'd have to absolutely suck at games in order to appreciate it.

  • I usually use the Sega Master System controller for this game and Zaxxon. It's much easier to shoot rapidly with this controller.

  • :) game over....WIN

  • LOL, it's a smiley face! I have this for game boy advanced sp or whatever u call it. It's on one of those games that has like 5 classic games on it.

  • The game collection u mention is the "Konami Arcade Classics Collection," a 5-in-1 collection that includes this, Frogger, and a few others that I forget.

Oh, and don't forget the Konami Code!

  • @Nettacki

The others are Scramble (1981), Time Pilot (1982) and Yie Ar Kung Fu (1985).

  • There's just one problem: who wants to play Colecovision? Worst controller ever--well, except for the Intellivision

  • You can plug in a atari 2600 controller xD

  • How many games work with the 2600 controller alone? I thought about getting a Colecovision but the controllers always made me stay away.

  • You would have better luck using google then asking me.

(Sega Genesis controller was also compatible)

  • @ioport

Do you have the same thoughts as to the Super Action Controller?

  • "those sit down and play games"

we still have those now, being made

  • There's also a minigame in GTA San Andreas which is a Gyruss clone

  • not to much like tempest now is it

  • what finger i see no finger just a smiling face

  • First time, when I see a ColecoVision game

  • all i see is a smiley face.... oh yeah i see the finger!

  • love those 8bit music

  • lol 3 warps away for uranus

  • looks like a smiley face : )

  • very impressive graphics for the time

  • I have to agree that the NES version is my favorite bar none, but I've only played the C64 version besides it.

  • Played this on my Atari 130xe i think.

  • That smiley's grinning at everyone because they fail so hard at playing Gyruss..

  • alaska! that is rad

  • This game has amazing graphics.

  • the colecovision was way ahead of its time....the music was way better than the bloops and bleeps of the atari 2600

  • hey I thought the music for the 2600 version was just fine :) I was seriously impressed with it.

  • actually i just saw the atari 2600 version and I agree with you.....I just assumed it would be like the typical 2600 music....my bad.

  • The NES version makes this version look like, well, a ColecoVision game. It's about 100 times better.

  • I love the Coleco. It had so many great games and some cracking arcade ports.

  • Shooters have come a long way =)

  • Gyrus lookes like that game in GTA san andreas in CJ's house

  • LOL "Jesus"

  • "I AM GYRUSS... I WIN!" : )

  • C64 was the best version.

  • --- :) ---

  • Nice music for 8 bit sound. Anyway great video as always.

  • gayruss

  • haha, that's bad ass...i once went to a bar, they poured my beer, i took a sip, i set it down and look inside the glass....what do i see? Smiley face! rock on dude.

  • wow this game has great music

  • I loved this game. Mostly played it on the NES!

I have a question. Where'd you get your colecovision? I had one I borrowed from a friend and it quit working on me

  • this game is like the one on gta san andreas when you go inside cj's house

  • I played the NES version as a kid. Fantastic game.

  • This is one of my favorites.

  • and Warps to Uranus. Ha ha ha!

  • Epic!!! the Colecovision flys to Neptune.

  • Awesome review, I'm gonna find this.

  • Killed by a space emoticon.

  • That version looks and sounds awesome. But, I wasn't sure if it was the video feed or if the game really did suffer from some pop-up overloading. And, having played the NES version, (which is more like a sequel then an arcade port) that version felt underpowered in spots it shouldn't have.

Trivia fact about the arcade: Every 360 degree position of the ship was hand drawn. Meaning the CPU did nothing to rotate the ship. Just hundreds of images!

  • haha the end was amazing

  • i like dig dug a little funner:)

  • Great arcade game. This version doesn't look too bad.

    Good review.

  • Sounds like pokemon game music :D!

  • GO MANNY

  • he doesnt care about "relevant" (whatever that means) and instead he just reviews the cool ones

  • so you like people reviewing the same games over and over?

  • i guess i do

  • Relevant to what?

  • Seriously he does good reviews, but honestly I think he just picks random games nobody gives a freak about. I mean I'm sure some people like these games, but honestly he could be reviewing sonic the hedgehog 1,2 or 3 review, or maybe I'v missed it. I don't know maybe he doesn't want to review all the good games at once to avoid be accused of being a sellout. I guess he wants to show people he can review any game whether its popular or not.

  • Or maybe he likes depth in his reviews.

  • actually it's nice to see a review of the less popular titles...there are probably dozens of sonic reviews out there...do we really need another one?

  • @nintendoneil Or perhaps a million of Super Mario related reviews...

  • @nintendoneil We need dozens of sonic reviews. All made by Classic Game Room, of course.

  • @nintendoneil Yes, we need one made by Classic Game Room !

  • It's basically a colourless version of Tempest, with only the circle level!

  • i like it on the arcade its fun

  • Even back in '83, Konami had some sick music. And as for the ending, all I have to say is "Have a nice day."

  • Its Evil Otto!!!

  • Gyruss on the NES is much better

  • Thats right, Gyruss on NES... best version ever.

  • for a game in such a fashion, with more wii like interaction, I recommend To The Earth for the nes. get a zapper, and be sure to use a 13-14 inch crt tv.

  • Hahah

  • My friend got that "Earth Defense Force 2017" game for his 360 today at Gamestop for just $13. After the first mission, we were hooked. Thanks for recommending it

  • all awesome :)

  • it's pronounced GYRUSS

  • helpful...

  • you mean GUY Russ? or jyruss

  • It has a tooth missing.

  • wow this looks awesome

  • happy face at the end

  • Good stuff Mark !

    Like usual !

giant middle finger of space! lol

  • This is like an arcade game in GTA:SA.

I thought that was a original concept.

  • whats the name of the song at the end?

  • @avenueq14 Blue Danube Waltz made famous in the movie 2001 a spayce oddyssey.

  • thanks for the info, that's been bothering me for a while, it's tough whe n you only know the tune, i'm also looking to find the name of the opening to 2001: a space odyssey if you happen to know

  • @avenueq14 yeah it's Also sprach Zarathustra / Thus spoke Zarathustra.

  • thanks again

  • That's the happiest space vacuum I've ever seen.

  • King of Donkey Kong? That reminds me. I can't believe Mark has not done a movie review of King of Kong. Please review it. I'm subbing right now and waiting for your review.

  • I was going to buy the NES version but it was never released in the PAL region. Well I will be getting a US top loader soon so I will definitely buy Gyruss and Galaga (which also wasn't released here. Damn you Nintendo!)

  • I have the nes version.

  • I have Gyruss for the NES. I have not played it in years but it is a great game.

    Another great review!

  • if i remember there was a game just like this for the ps1 cant remember the name tho.

  • Getting flipped off by the CollecoVision ... Nice.

  • LOL! The game smiled after you lost! That's crazy!

  • Wow! What are the odds??

  • There's a similar version of this game in San Andreas. It's called "They Came From Uranus." You can play it inside CJ's house.

  • lol isnt this on grandtheftauto sanandreas as ur home console game

  • Totally Tubular!!!!!

  • great music i must admit

  • this game is awsome on nes

  • This game is in GTA san andreas

  • Love the end :-)

  • The controls would seem pretty awful with the original Colecovision controller. That sucks.

  • Love the opening music for this game.

  • 3 warps 'till Uranus.

Call me immature, but I thought it was funny.

  • lol i cant stop laughing

  • Same.

  • Smile. Your dead!

  • i have the arcade machine of this in my bedroom :)

  • I want your bedroom!

  • lmao, right as he was flying into uranus i was thinking "he is going in to uranus" and then he completely called me out rofl.

  • OMG HE ENTERS URANUS

  • Kinky. XD

  • have you played the gta san andreas version of gyruss?

  • Sounds like a good game, has cool music, and the smiley at the end was probably put in the game on purpose :P

  • Dude, you can go anywhere for an MW2 review. Where else are you going to get a new review of Gyruss for the ColecoVision?

This is the beauty of the Classic Game Room.

  • Word.

  • yea he'll review MW2 when its 25 years old

  • lol and instead of jokes about the vectrex they'll be about the xbox 360

  • While this is good, the nes version just blow's all other ports out of the water.

  • Great to see more Colecoavision reviews!

  • I didn't know Evil Otto made a cameo in Gyruss!

  • Otto wants to rule the pixel universe. XD

  • That face looks kinda creepy, awesome review Mark.

  • lol tubular idk if that was a joke but i lmao

  • No the King of Donkey Kong is Steve Weibe or that other guy who I saw in King of Kong who I can't remember his name.

  • Billy Mitchell

  • Oh don't tell me you forgot about Vectrex. I haven't seen Vectrex review for years!

  • Silly name great game
