  • what about minimum load. are there any issues when the XBOX PSU will be turned on without a load on it? (aka green light). I would like to have it always on but the PC which will be using it will be probably sometimes off... Not sure what would happen in such case...

  • @celafon I haven't had any issues with a no load condition, the Brick I was using (203W) still put out a solid 12V.

  • @sk8rj10 thanks mate. I was in the middle of figuring out the way to pass the PWR_ON/PWR_OK signals but in such case Ill just use the 12 Volts.

  • @lrvillarreal Is that a rhetorical question??? Haha just kidding, I just used the Xbox case and all my own electronics, those aren't the native Xbox internals. My setup was -> micro-ATX mobo, 12V to mobo power supply adapter, 16GB CF card for a hard-drive with WinXp installed, & with vga-to-composite converter (scan converter) to display to CRT.

  • @loganrox9 I've never seen the LED go yellow before, are you using a newer 175W ,150W, or 135W XBOX 360 power brick? When the LED goes yellow does 12V still activate? You'll need a multimeter to measure it.

  • @sk8rj10 well i have the same one as you do in this video but my led is orang ish yellow but i dont no how to get it to go green witch means power on you no you have that adapter thing is there a way to short it out so then its always green

  • @loganrox9 I see what you mean now, just check out my instructables link in the more info box beneath the video. Or you can check the comments below where it says to cut off the power connector short out the red and blue wires and then use the yellow wires for +12V and the Black wires for Ground. Probably a good idea to tie all the yellows together and the black together as well and to use a 15A inline fuse on the yellow wires. It's up to you if you want to still use your brick for your 360

  • All you have to do is hit "more info" on this video's description and then follow the link to my instructable.

  • I went there but it still didnt tell me how. I know theres 2 wires you have to touch and it turns on, which ones.

  • Please check out step 9, where it talks about putting a switch from +5VSB to PWR Enable. These are the 2 pins you will have to short together, I recommend a switch so you can easily turn the PSU on and off.

  • on my PSU all I have is a bunch of wires. this unit belonged to my friend's 360 and the plug broke off so he gave it to me. on the plug end I see a bunch of yellow wires (12V) a bunch of black wires (Ground) and a red wire and a blue wire. I saw your instructables and it said if you tie the 5vSB and the power enable wores the PSU will turn on. are the red and blue wires the right ones? I could make a vid of this if I have to. I really want to use this especially when it pumps out 16.5 amps.

  • You got it! With the PSU plugged into the wall just touch the red to the blue and your PSU should turn on (aka the wonderful green LED lights up and the +12V turns on [all the yellow wires]). You can always check if your +5VSB is there by plugging the PSU into the wall and then measuring from red to black with a multimeter on the DC voltage setting.

  • so thats it just touch the red and blue wires together and it will turn on? plese forgive all of this asking b/c I just dont want to burn out this awesome PSU. I do have a miltimeter, one that I found in the garbage and I cleaned it up and it works. I will reply back soon with the results of the 360 PSU testing. gonna try this now.

  • ok UPDATE: when I plug in the PSU and put a meter to the yellow and black wires I get 11.17 volts and maybe .02 volts from I think the red wire do I dare test my car radio on it?

    Update 2 I got power baby I tried a half dead halogen car light and it works great. I will try my car stereo.

    Update 3 my car stereo works and sounds great on it and the radio comes in awesome. the weird thing is that the LED on the PSU isnt lighing up but I got power. any ideas why?

  • Nice I'm glad you got it to work! It does seem like the voltage is a bit low, it should be around 11.75V-12V but it could be because the battery is low on your multimeter or some other unknown factor. As for the LED not lighting up it could have been damaged at some point or a solder joint broke on one of the LED connections.

  • My multimeter was scavenged from the trash so maybe its not properly zeroed out maybe thats whats the issue. and the LED I might have broken it b/c I did open this puppy up to have a look inside and I might have done something to it. unless the 360 console connects the LED and it switches the light on or something when you press power on the 360? oh well at least I got power thats all I care about. ill probably add a switch into the AC line so I can switch it on and off w/o unplugging it.
