I know GUI idea was Xerox's, but this way to do things is Apple's, that's what Microsoft truly copied. Xerox just had a prototype, and idea, nothing functional.

I find it ironic that Apple now makes PC clones and markets them as Macs(and their PC clones are better than their old "macs" which weren't PC clones).

any mainstream personal computer on the market is now a PC clone. IBM's original design scales well and it's been a success.

you can say what you want about software(Mac OSX is a solid OS), but hardware wise, PCs are now king simply because PPC is dead(what older macs used), sparc is dead, and nothing else is really viable anymore.

Hey, wait there! Just to clarify, the new Macs aren't exactly true "PC Clones". They don't have a BIOS (they have EFIs), nor PICs and IBM legacy stuff. They can't run DOS and Windows runs over an emulation layer.

While I agree that the IBM architecture is commercially viable, I don't see it as ingenious as the original Apple II or Macintosh 68k/PPC architecture. It is messy and you have to go trough three different processor modes just to use 64 bits.

Did anyone else realize that MacDraw looked exactly like the Windows 3.1 version of Paint? And Apple OS1 came out in the mid 1980s and Windows 3.1 came out in 1992. Does this seem odd to anyone else?

Black and White..... ha ha ha. Idiots. The Commodore Amiga, released a year later, used high resolution COLOR graphics. My first computer was in Color. There was no reason to use black and white except the developers lack the talent to create hardware for the job.

Commodore was a messed up company, but they didn't create the Amiga, that was the work of ex-Atari employees. Apple kept a 25 year old gray scale turd alive long enough finally got it halfway decent. Having used both the XL and original 128k Mac when they came it I feel old. It seems like just yesterday I was playing Dungeon of Doom, trying to understand why Microsoft BASIC on the Mac was full screen and didn't use the UI of the Mac ... and who can forget Puzzle and MacPaint?

Apple had to change their ways because Microsoft had (and has, although loosening) an iron grip on those areas. Where Apple really (and always) ruled was Creative Pro apps, like film maker and graphic design. This is the area they had to focus on to stay alive.

except they just ruined that. Without INTEL chips now, they cant run a partition for windows, which means programs like Rhino or Autodesk cannot run on Mac. ALSO now that CS4 comes in 64 Bit, people will use a regular 64bit PC to run it. Mac still refuses to run a 64bit os.

OS X Leopard is 64 Bit. The issue is that apple does not allow carbon to be in 64 bit, which they changed at the last second. (Messing up adobes plans.)
