GL: 1993 - Maureen's Death Part 2

Actress Ellen Parker who played Maureen got her revenge when she won a daytime emmy for that heartbreaking scene! That right there proves she was loved by the fans as well as talented. I know that Ellen Wheeler has been given the black and labled worst producer on GL, but what about JFP, John conboy and Paul Rauch? They sucked too. Why should they get a free pass. The problems on the show orginated with them fools!

I was 13 when this aired and 18 years later I am still in shock over the executive's at GL's decision to kill such a beloved character. The storyline would have been better if Maureen didn't die and she turned to Roger for comfort and slept with him to get back at Ed. Could you just imagine his reaction lol.

Peter Simon left soon after this aired BECAUSE JFP chose to kill Maureen and destroy the character of Ed. Ed would NEVER have cheated on Maureen....especially after the Claire incident when Maureen adopted Michelle. They were the one couple on soaps that you tied your anchor to because they truly loved each other......I never really cared for GL after this....I kept up with it to see what was going on but didn't go out of my way to watch it.

I think the reason Maureen's death heart so much because it was pointless. Bellowed characters were killed off on other shows and fans accepted it because there was a purpose to it, like pairing the other half of the couple with someone else. there was no point to killing Maureen. Ed was with Eve briefly and Peter Simon left shortly after. At least the show could have given Ed a new love interest, Ed and Holly were great together. But show did nothing. And they wonder why GL got canceled...

Jill Farren Phelps ruined GL when she "produced" the show. This was the beginning of the end when they killed Maureen Bauer. Jill did the same thing to AW when she had Frankie Frame killed off. See a pattern here ?

I love when Maureen tells Ed that "we've been here before, and that's what makes this so stupid. That we should be here again." After cheating on Maureen with Claire in the 80's, Ed couldn't have thought that Maureen would take him back after stepping out on her AGAIN--and with her best friend Lillian to boot!

@miggy25 And don't forget in between his affair with Claire and Lillian he had an affair with Holly (in early 1989.) I think that the affair with Holly was what Maureen was referring to about, "... that they should be here again."

If Irna Phillips heard about Jill Farren Phelps, she would be spinning in her grave. Hell, she would have come out of grave to destroy Phelps. This was a great show until Phelps ruined it. Charita Bauer would be pissed too. Damn death sucks.

GL made two huge, huge blunders. First one here in 93, killing off Maureen. Second, 1997, showing Michael Zaslow the door. Idiotic, stupid decisions and karma finally came around.

Even though I don't watch GL, Maureen's death was the biggest mistake at the time all thanks to JFP. She went on to kill AW's Frankie, reak havoc at OLTL, and even though they put a choke-collar on her at GH, she dismissed Genie Francis, Billy Warlock, and fired Stuart Damon,even Stephen Nichols walked. All wonderful characters that made GH a standout show. I hope she and Guza get the boot next! Really good clip.

What were they thinking?? By this time, Maureen had evolved into GUIDING LIGHT'S new Bert, and she could have remained the show's beloved 'moral center' character for years... but they killed her off! The damage to the show continues to this day.

I couldn't have said it better. I so miss the character of "Mo." She was without a doubt the morale center...the new Bert. And, JFP went and killed her. Sooooo uncalled for.

Yes Ed slept with Claire Ramsey when he believed Maureen had died in a plane crash if I recall correctly and that is what produced Michelle.

This show seemed to be on a real kick to get rid of the Bauers. They got rid of Mike and Hope. Killed off Maureen and Hilary. The show never recovered from these mistakes and it shows.
