Marketing is not the only thing that sells cars. Word of mouth is MUCH more effective at selling stuff.

Prius cars etc are MILD hybrids, a hybrid principle that is, well, shite. All these mild hybrids still have large IC engines and an almost useless electric motor. 1) Diesel has more energy per gallon then gasoline. Plus it costs more.
1 gallon of diesel fuel = 139,000 Btu
1 gallon of gasoline = 124,000 Btu
2) Diesel creates more NOX and smog.
3) The prius is actually a full hybrid. Meaning it can run on battery, gas, or a combination of both. Mild hybrids like Honda's IMA hybrids, can't use pure electricity. It only stops the engine at a complete stop.
4) The EPA is not a professional circle? In testing: 2010 prius gets 50mpg, the VW Golf gets 34mpg.

I think the prius is classed as a parallel hybrid. Full series means one power source preferably electric with another source to provide the power, eg petrol driving a gen' which drives the e motors. The prius is an extremely weak parallel hybrid with either the weak electric driving or the large conventional IC (99% of the time as the electric can't hack it). The Prius will only win over a pure diesel in nox but not range. Hence the entire german car industry didn't bother & made better diesels

it will be a complex mix of batteries, ultra caps, 99% efficient power recoueration devices linked to the new motors, the small generator, and last but in fact least the plug in capability as without people will complain if it isn't there... but no harm charging overnight if you don't use it. The electric part is actually LIMITED by the amount of available power that the battery has. Sure, toyota could say: F the battery, i'll let the electric motors eat as much power as you want.
You'll then have tons of DEAD batteries on the road. Heavy discharge and recharge cycles destroys battery life. It decreases efficiency too.
Did you know it is recomended to switch the Hybrid battery out every 25,000 miles? Well that wouldn't be so bad, except it costs $12,000 to replace the Hybrid battery.
Secondly, The Hybrid cars use a Nickel Alkaline batteries. The Nickel is processed into Nickel Alkaline at the INCO Nickel Smelter superstack, Sudbury Ontario, Canada.

The Production of Hybrid cars is far more enviromentaly unfriendly than a Hummer.

GM killed the ev1 for one reason only electric cars have just about no maintenace cost. There is no long term high profit margin with electric cars and this is the only reason why they havent been built. Wind, solar, nuclear and geothermal will give us more power then we will ever need.

God hates hybrids because if you slow down oil use and war you slow down the return of Christ. The devil gets to live a little longer each time we buy a hybrid. Drilling Alaska would solve all the problems and we would never run out of oil.
As much as i'd like to i won't comment on your belief, but i will tell you this. Oil is finite. This means that it has a very, very slow rate of replacement. So yes, if you drilled alaska then you wouldn't run out of oil so soon, but you would run out especially if we all used as much as i would guess you do.

Chromius and Chrome are two different things. Ones an element and the other's an compound molecule, of which big part is nickel (also an element, just so you know), so next time you open your mouth research some more.
Chrome is not made of Chromium totally - yeah that's right, Chrome is a Nickel plate(the biggest part of Chrome) with electrolytic deposition of Chromium on top of that Nickel piece.
The Hybrid car arent for "high RPM". It's for enjoyment, pleaser and for communting. I think when you said engine kicks off after 30MPH it's rather the other way around. Checked it out at toyota website while back. The only thing prevents me buying that type of hybrid, it's size. I rather have a 1995 honda civic body size hybrid.
To correct you, the Gas engine kicks in at speeds abover 30mph. The Electric motor handles speeds below that, unless the battery needs to be charged or if weather conditions are a limiting factor.
A hummer h2's 0-60 mph time is barley better at 9.6 seconds. Second you might want to check your facts a little more before your next movie, i don't want too long a comment but i will point out the first major mistake: The electric motor starts working before you get up to speed, you had it backwards! Then as the car gets a few year old the drive battery gets weak and it uses more gas in the city to power it. At that point the cost to repair is in the thousands. Battery worth over $2400 US. If you like Toyota get a Corolla. It is bigger, more powerful, gets better MPG on highway and is less problems in the long run.

There are taxies that have gone above and beyond 300k miles on ORIGINAL batteries.
There are tons of normal drivers that have gone over 100k miles on original batteries. I challenge you to prove your "facts" about battery life. Government testing has found very little degradation in fuel efficiency from degrading batteries.

Marketing is not the only thing that sells cars. Word of mouth is MUCH more effective at selling stuff.
If its trash and doesn't meet expectations, there WOULDN'T be any good word of mouth. That's why people aren't buying American hybrids, because they ARE junk. A huge premium for like a 1-2 mpg gain.
Most intelligent people don't just buy all the marketing BS that is tossed out there. They take it with a grain of salt and do research BEFORE they buy - especially on something expensive!

in fact it is more efficient to burn coal in a power plant to charge your EV (which has about 80-90% efficiency) and travel than internal combustion engines ( generally about 20%, 30% in some recent diesel models in Europe)
I don't know much about the environmental effects of batteries though.

Prius cars etc are MILD hybrids, a hybrid principle that is, well, shite. All these mild hybrids still have large IC engines and an almost useless electric motor. It's a marketing gag, otherwise Merc, BMW, VW etc would have them too, but didn't as crap. They stuck to diesels. Next gen FULL hybrids with small IC engines acting as generators (still kick out CO2, but FAR less) powering very powerful electric motors will work. Yep, plugins use grid power which burnt something. Fossil or Atomic.

think like, if their is a shortage of oil supply, the demand would be high, and so will the price.
you get 33 MPG, with a regular diesel car (BMW), with a hybrid(prius) you get up to 70mpg.
buying a hybrid alone would save some money in your pocket, you save almost 5,000 dollars every 5 years, the money you use for gas, you can save for something. Fuel efficiency

no, I disagree with your numbers entirely. It is simply wrong to assume the Prius is better on fuel than a diesel. No way. They conducted tests in germany comparing all the various primary movers. The prius used more fuel than a Golf diesel. What the mild hybrid WILL do is put out a little less CO2, but NOT more fuel effecient. Toyota and Honda make MILD hybrids, the prime mover is still a large IC engine. Mild hybrids are useless. But the new full hybrids will be FAR better than anything now.

It is generally accepted in professional circles that the current MILD hybrids still can't beat diesels for fuel efficiency. You will be right re CO2, the prius will kick out a little less CO2 when in electric mode, these things are often mixed up. We are trying to get CO2 down and fuel usage down. All current MILD hybrids can't beat diesels in terms of fuel consumption. All tests reveal this

1) Diesel has more energy per gallon then gasoline. Plus it costs more.
1 gallon of diesel fuel = 139,000 Btu
1 gallon of gasoline = 124,000 Btu
2) Diesel creates more NOX and smog.
3) The prius is actually a full hybrid. Meaning it can run on battery, gas, or a combination of both. Mild hybrids like Honda's IMA hybrids, can't use pure electricity. It only stops the engine at a complete stop.
4) The EPA is not a professional circle? In testing: 2010 prius gets 50mpg, the VW Golf gets 34mpg.

The prius is NOT a full hybrid, how ignorant can you get? The electric part is hyper weak and only kicks in under very little strain. Prices vary regarding diesel and petrol dramatically from country to country. A full hybrid is where the prime mover is is electric power with 10 times or more torque. The prius prime mover is a large petrol engine. A very small diesel used to turn a charger to run the electric prime mover produces only 30% nox or less. Golf diesel beats prius over 900km distance.

There is no such thing as a "full hybrid" with electric as a prime mover. Heres why: That electricity is not going to come from nowhere. It's gotta be generated by an gas/diesel engine. What your talking about is a plug-in hybrid.
And you gotta do some more research about the prius. If the electric part doesn't work, the car DOESN'T MOVE. The gas engine is basically between two electric motors. One of these electric motors give it something to push against. The other basically moves the wheels.

I have my doubts that your electric motor can produce that much torque. For example, the tesla roadster produces only 273 lb-ft (369.72Nm) of torque, and it already costs over 100k!

But, what exactly is going to power these electric motors? And how much is it going to cost compared to a hybrid?

Oh and one last thing: I think you've been talking about a SERIES hybrid, where a gas/diesel generator charges a battery, which then powers an electric motor.

I think the prius is classed as a parallel hybrid. Full series means one power source preferably electric with another source to provide the power, eg petrol driving a gen' which drives the e motors. The prius is an extremely weak parallel hybrid with either the weak electric driving or the large conventional IC (99% of the time as the electric can't hack it). The Prius will only win over a pure diesel in nox but not range. Hence the entire german car industry didn't bother & made better diesels

At that site, if you look at how the engine is setup BETWEEN the electric motors, you will find the electric motors are pretty much always being used.
It's also interactive. Try it out.
The prius transmission uses the electric motors as basically an electric torque converter.
How would you define "large conventional ICE"? 2 liters? 4 liters? 1.4 liters?
What's a small conventional ICE?
half a liter? 150 cc? 50cc?
The prius engine is -in my opinion- one of the smallest engines out there.

The 2010 Toyota Prius is currently rated at 48mpg on the highway.
The Golf is rated at 30mpg in the city.
The Prius is rated at 51mpg in the city.
How exactly is the prius not winning? It's beating it in all categories of fuel economy.
Coupled with the fact that diesel has more energy per gallon when compared to gas.

Last I checked, ultra caps were still very limited in power storage capacity. AND very expensive.
They may be the future, but they need to increase capacity and decrease cost first.
I'm going to take your claim of 99% energy regeneration with a big grain of salt. There is a thing called conversion losses. Mechanical energy to electrical energy has a loss. I doubt you've reduced that to 1%.
Maybe that 99% is for the first foot of regeneration. By then, the ultra caps would probably be filled.

of course ultracaps are short term storage. I said that it will be a mix of all of them... the ultracaps will receive current very quickly and discharge accrodingly. The electronics and magement will react extremely quickly and distribute and retrieve where necessary.

The effeciency has been measured so far to 98.7%. Way good enough. Unit stays cold under full load. Not off the shelf components. Management of power to ultracaps, batteries and other storage. Down hill and breaking recoup along with the said components etc will work. Getting very high torque from e motors is not tough stuff. Armies now investing in silent very high torque vehicles. Can't say more.

there will be an electric motor for each wheel, not one for all 4. There will be no gearbox (a gearbox as you will know is only a wheel chair for IC engines that need to produce power by rpm). E' motors produce full torque from 0 to max as you will know. 2000Nm already exists. No big deal. HP is a calc of torque and rpm. Masses of torque= high efficiency. The tesla doesn't bother us. Simple motor. The power will come from either small petrol or diesel to turn a generator.nox etc well under 30gr

The electric part is actually LIMITED by the amount of available power that the battery has. Sure, toyota could say: F the battery, i'll let the electric motors eat as much power as you want.
You'll then have tons of DEAD batteries on the road. Heavy discharge and recharge cycles destroys battery life. It decreases efficiency too.

Did you know it is recomended to switch the Hybrid battery out every 25,000 miles? Well that wouldn't be so bad, except it costs $12,000 to replace the Hybrid battery.
Secondly, The Hybrid cars use a Nickel Alkaline batteries. The Nickel is processed into Nickel Alkaline at the INCO Nickel Smelter superstack, Sudbury Ontario, Canada.
The process releases Methane, Sulfer-dioxide and nitric-oxylate.
The Production of Hybrid cars is far more enviromentaly unfriendly than a Hummer.

And the battery is not alkaline. It's Nickel-metal hydride.
The sudbury does not provide nickel for just the prius, but all nickel around the world. All the enviromental damage was already there when toyota bought some nickel. Toyota buys less then 2% of its total output. Plus, sudbury has LONG SINCE cleaned up its pollution.
If you think those chemicals are bad, how about the LEAD in normal car batteries?

All diesel cars have less horse power & it's maximum speed is only 90mph. Prius on the other hand has 115 horses and a lot of space inside since it's a midsize car. Wach some car review shows or rent one if ou don't believe me. Prius looks better & it's also airodynamicly adjusted to increase fuel efficientcy. Diesels are slow & make a lot of noise to.

Ok first of all, golf 1.9tdi is not in the same class and it's a small car compared to toyota prius. Prius is a midsize car (in US) and golf is a small puckito. I don't care what the safety ratings are cause IT'S A SMALL CAR, and driving a small car in the US is dangerous. Try having a car accident with an SUV or pick truck cause our roads are full of those. Also middle class working people are not interested in building their own cars, so i don't care how strong you can build it. We're interested in buying cars that work great. In addition people in US are not interested in driving diesels. I don't wanna drive a tracktor to work or to a store that's just not appealing. I understand diesel can be the solution in Europe to the gas crisis but u have to understand that it's only a temporary solution. Why? Because we're gonna get low on gas which soon will kick up the prices significantly. In 6 years you'll be paying 2x more for diesel than your paying now and hybrids will be getting 2x better mpg. Investing our money and focusing on hybrids is being proactive and thinking ahead. U can buy diesel now if u want but u will end up with a hybrid soon. Trust me :)

Hybrids get worse mileage than a similar gas model on the highway. 0-60 in 12 seconds is very very slow. Search you tube for top gear's review of the prius. It confirms the 0-60 and the 45mi/gal numbers mentioned in this video. Electricity and hydrogen are only transport mechanisms, the energy still needs to be produced somewhere.

If i want to save gas get a small car? Why not get prius since it gets at least 45mpg? For other people it gets 50mpg or more depending on how you drive it. If i wanted to get a small car that gets the same millage i would have to buy one of those that have only one seat inside and have 3 wheels, that you can find in UK. The nickel used to create the batteries is a known carcinogen. I have to start by saying this video gets a 0/10. Next- the MPG's from 4:32 to 4:42 are completely made up. The Prius gets 48 city 45 hwy. Toyota Corolla gets 26 city 33 hwy. Honda Fit gets 28 city 33 hwy. Hyundai Accent gets 25 city 32 hwy. Kia Rio gets 25 city 35 hwy. Actually Honda Insight (before the Honda Fit in 2006 and before) had beaten Prius by about 7mpg. GM killed the ev1 for one reason only electric cars have just about no maintenace cost. There is no long term high profit margin with electric cars and this is the only reason why they havent been built. Wind, solar, nuclear and geothermal will give us more power then we will ever need.

Oh and as far as nickel goes- yes its #1 and biggest pollutant for the hybrids, but the Hummer has so much chrome on it, which is made out of nickel, that those 20" rims alone took more nickel than Prius batteries. Lets face it, a lot of our vehicles have real chrome on them, and we buy our vehicles with chrome on it cuz it makes the vehicle look good. Whenever some vehicle manufacturer puts shiny plastic peaces in place of chrome we dis em'. So much for caring about our planet.

To correct you, the Gas engine kicks in at speeds abover 30mph. The Electric motor handles speeds below that, unless the battery needs to be charged or if weather conditions are a limiting factor.

You have a lot of good points in this video and I'm sure the hybrid isn't that much better than any other car in the world but you have to realize that all cars go through that process where companies have to buy materials, make, ship and sell the cars which all take energy. I'm sure if you looked at the amount of energy to make a regular car and hybrid they would maybe even? i havent looked looked into it.
