  • Your both wrong its called protopunk.a form of early punk

  • Lol to the idiot below this is not punk it's classic rock

  • This is punk!

  • For combining intellegence in lyrics and musical ability with absolute madness in live performance,my Lord, there was NOTHING like The Who circa 1964-1975.

  • I wish my bass sounded like that.....

  • ...used to live in London at the time, Bethnal Green and earned my living in the West End Wardour Street, Bastille ...three doors next to the legendary Marquee!!!

  • Proto punk goodness

  • Simplemente increíbles en vivo como siempre.keith And John RIP

  • Keith is amazing. Most drummers only play like that when soloing..he plays like it all the time.

  • ehm I am new here and i can be shy and nasty too

  • It's remarkable how much Roger changed in 2 years. Go look at the woodstock footage!

  • whats wrong with my young generation.... i loved my fathers generation......

  • Who sang this

  • soooo ahead of their time!

  • why is john not being filmed.. one of my favorite musicians on the stage,

  • Its so clear listening to this that Moon and Entwistle ARE The Who in the early days. Townshend, at this point, was only playing along and same with Daltrey's singing. The rythmn section dominates!

  • If you like something different then you may very well like KOZMIC DREAMERS whose artistic vision and expression, defines them as one of a kind. Buy one of the songs or poems on iTunes.

  • the böhse onkelz version is better

  • Who is pure GENIUS.

  • @emiliano2500 The Who are, that's who !

  • @netpitti No not a punk band for sure.Doesn't mean they didn't sow it's seeds. But that was the point of The Who.They could do punk, very hard rock, blues rock, ballads, soul, comedic albums, rock operas and invented synthesizer use in rock among many other things they could do it all ,they covered more ground in a shorter time frame than any other band.

  • Fuji Rock 12 求む!!

  • Green Day has a pretty good cover to this song :)

  • genialt!!!

    its so much

I watchted them -71 in Amsterdam never ever saw nohting like it

  • @lainey767 Classic Retro Mod Band :D

  • The who is not a punk band.!!!!!

  • come on lads, short and sweet.True punk style. You don't have to show hendrix nothin'.

  • no wonder Pete smashed his guitar, Johnny the bass player is loud as hell!

  • The best!

  • At 2:32, Ox don't stay on track...what's with that?

  • Keith Moon = greatest of all time !!

  • @bronncohowie

  • @bronncohowie AHAHAHAHAHA. MOON IS CRAP. HE PLAYED THE SAME LOOPS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. JOHN BONHAM IS A REAL DRUMMER.

  • @gurudev91 youre obviously a cunt, fuck off and get cancer

  • Yeah!

  • Great frontman roger daltry. Up there with freddie mercury.

  • The first punk rock band. The Sex Pistols and the Clash would have been inconceivable without the Who.

  • @sd31263 you forget the stooges!

  • @TheJellyToto The Who influenced the Stooges as well!

  • was für ein scheis

  • @timbenz1 deine mutter

  • @davidbowie70 Some people do-I've noticed there's a steadily growing wave of old school rockers backlashing against mainstream pop nowadays

  • Sick bass sound! Ox RIP

  • Keiyh Moon one of the best Rock drummers --Ever---!!

  • This is the best version of the greatest song ever made. The Who, quality.

  • That is freakin' * Great!! Loved it.

  • o.k this is as fresh as anything think of the time, the mood and thats it YOUNG PEOPLE BREAKING BOUNDARIES phew

  • I'm 14, and I would much rather listen to this than all this "Yo Yo Nigger" shit they call "music" today!

  • @TheGunner444 No, you are lying. Fool, there's nothing wrong "yo yo nigger" music, as I assume that you mean hip hop. Hip hop IS great art, but the Who is classic. No need to hate

  • @ankanboll who = classic, tupac = classic, mozart = classic

  • If you don't type fag or faggot in the comment box you are a self righteous censor who has scored absolute zero in the standard I.Q, test. And why does that have anything to do with a great band and a great song?

  • I recorded at a studio Bourton on the Water where John Entwistle used to record and he said I was one of the best bass players he had seen live which was AMAZING cos I was the f*cking drummer.

  • what happened to my generation?

  • Why everyone is writing so much stuff not related to this awesome music and band? The Who are one of the best bands ever, from the best times on music ever IMO. That's why I'd like to invite everyone into this band/era/good music (you know it if you're here because you dig the sound) to check my band's - Mob of God - music on this channel. We've just recorded a first EP, but 60's, 70's and 90's are our main influences. All visits and feedback from people digging this, are an honour. Thanks.

  • If I had the Time Machine I would go back to the 60s over and over again!!!!

  • YouTube For Dummies, Pg. 32:

"Rule No. 16. IF YOU TYPE THE WORD "F&G" OR "F&GGOT" INTO THE COMMENT BOX, YOU ARE AUTOMATICALLY REGISTERED WITH THE INTERNATIONAL DIPSHIT REGISTRY AND HAVE SCORED ABSOLUTE ZERO ON THE STANDARD IQ TEST." See Fig. 16A for a complete list of auto-registry words.

  • That's fucking rock'n Roll

  • XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Did the amp explode at 2:56 ??? :D:D:D

  • this was when Punk Rock was Born! :)

  • Keith is god

  • If this was June/July '67 I was at this show. Thanks for the video!

  • wow! pete on a strat is nice!

  • Had an Old person put down our generation the other day.....I feel sorry for them, repeating the same B.S. Their fathers probably did the same to them

  • @krash332 your "generation" is garbage the notion of generations moreso you lemming are too dtupid to function too drugged to make sense to sexually perverted to have any redeeming qualities and too fucking stupid to breathe the hippies sucked and represented no o that "generation" btw the who were somewhat sarcastic and micking fo the juvellie bullshit hence daltrey stuttering response and arcane lyrics you stupid fag-courtesy fo a membe rof your "generation" and yes this crap should be putdown

  • @incongra I'm not comparing a revolutionary band like The Who to today's suckish mainstream. I'm just saying this is the first time i've seen something like this.

  • すばらしい!これこそロックの真髄!かっこよすぎて、言葉にならない。

  • Jesus Christ! Good song, but damn! It was literally falling apart at the end!

  • @Mrbr0w I think you are comparing it to modern , sanitised, digital music which all carefully packaged. At that time ANYTHING could happen during a gig. You should probably think of the ending more as a 'sound installation" or modern sculpture if you will. They were pushing the boundaries and nobody- least of all the Who- knew where it was going to end up?

  • 52 people are O.K. with living in this sucky generation...

  • Reason number one to invent a time machine. God almighty.

  • imagine keith moon playing double pedal on a breakdown.

  • @alan18244 Is he playing one in this vid?

  • lead bass with rhythm guitar, a good singer and KEITH MOON !!!!!!!

  • "Hope I die before I get old". How ironic

  • So many experts so long after the event. Had you only been there at the time, what might you have created?

    Answer came there none.

  • Heh. I feel cheated. Townsend didn't finish off the guitar or smash an amp...The money tree musta been sickly or sumpin...... LOL!!!

  • how am i wrong?

  • This is the greatest DVD.

    Go out, buy it.

    NOW.

  • Buddy Rich and Dave Brubeck were great JAZZ drummers. But here we're talking about ROCK and NOT jazz. Comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges. They played two totally different genres.

  • @cohena2 No kidding Sherlock............wow, they are 2 different genres. I was responding to the post that stated that Moon was the best drummer to ever walk the earth and that would then include all genres of music you twit.

  • @cohena2 Do you really know , what you are talking about ? Brubeck was a drummer ??? Sometimes my eyes don`t believe what they have to read .

  • Keith Moon, Ringo Starr, Perry Mason, wah wah wah, just agree that they're all legendary drummers and quit with your opinionated bickering and get back to the topic of this song. My Generation is a great song IN MY OPINION. :) I thoroughly enjoy listening to the who whenever I am in the mood, they are a great product of the rock and roll movement.

  • why put the camera on keith during johns bass solo?

  • @ChoklitThundah Obviously, the producer in the booth tried to get high on oregano... Honest dealers are as easy to find as an ethical republican. The camera guy also has on his resume shooting Grace Slick lip synching Marty Balin on "Today" in "Monterey Pop" Same control booth, I'll betcha..... LOL!!

  • @ChoklitThundah cause its fucking keith moon lol

  • @jaqua524 yeah but its also john entwistle haha

  • @ChoklitThundah Maybe the camera preferred Keith to John, because Keith seems to show a bit more movement - just a thought

  • @ChoklitThundah Because if you look directly at him while he plays it, your eyes burn out.

  • @ChoklitThundah Because the cameraman was on lsd, don't forget this are the 60's :D

  • I'm here just because who's page post this video on facebook. But i'm seeing one of the best videos of the who that i ever saw.

  • For those of you youngsters out there who think that Keith Moon is the founding father of drums, please go to Youtube and look up Far More Drums by the Dave Brubeck Quartet and then tell me that Keith Moon is the founding father of drums.

Keith was a great Rock drummer, but his skills were quite limited when compared to those that put their life into the study and practice of drums, such as Joe Morello and Buddy Rich amongst hundreds of others.

  • @beaconmike

OK,those cats are great. But their skills are not relevant in this style which is ROCK.

Keith Moon has more fans and sold more records than both of those guys put together times 1444

  • @BrutusMcCrunch Hey douce bag..........the post that I was referring to said that Keith Moon was the best drummer to ever walk the earth............and that would include all genres of music you fuck. Learn to read the English language before you spout your crap to me you youngster. Moon was pathetic to many of the World's greatest drummer. Read the post. You insult me, I insult you.............the street runs both ways nuthugger.

  • @beaconmike

Nice reply,grandpa....Hey I have an idea...why don't you stay off the pages of all music recorded after 1950 and this way we don't have to hear your irrelevant opinions.

  • @BrutusMcCrunch The truth hurts didn't it...............you are unable to admit that you read the post wrong and incorrectly, so you take to continuing to insult me. It's a free country and I will go anywhere I like on Youtube. Rather than me staying off of the pages you find relevant, why don't you just learn to read and admit you made a mistake and then simply apologize when you are wrong. Because you are so immature, I don't expect it.

  • @beaconmike lay off him, young kid most likely, he doesnt know better, we all were there once man lol

  • @beaconmike

Theyre both do some pretty crazy shit, however they don't have the same genius and originality as Keith. They dont have the showmanship, the hilarity, the style, or the genius of making each song perfectly complimented by his playing. Rich is amazing, but Keith is in another league. They also for certain did not rock out as hard as one 1 hundredth of keiths caliber.

  • @snipeshow920 You have obviously never even held a pair of drumsticks in your hand. Your post has to be one of the most idiotic I have ever read................"the same genius or originality as Keith". Moon would slap you silly were he alive. Rich is amazing, but Keith is in another league.................OMG, what a fool you are............Keith Moon would have given his right-nut to be able to play even remotely like Rich or Morello.

  • @beaconmike

Actually i am a drummer, and I just tend to favour drummers worth watching for more than 2 minutes after getting bored. In proficiency, no, keith is not as good as rich. However, he is still a far better drummer..... who is more intense and fun to listen to? Keith, obviously, and his style and creativity pwn both of them.

  • @snipeshow920 a

At least you are willing to admit that we are simply debating one's opinion over another............I just take issue when anyone makes it sound like these statements are facts of truth. I respect your opinion about Moon and will leave it at that. You are entitled to see and believe what you want to see in Moon.

  • @beaconmike

    What about Chambers, hes amazing

  • @beaconmike AND you are contradicting yourself. You are you guys are discussing opinion, and u respect his opinion, and shooting him down for making it seem like a fact about moon's greatness. YET, you are doing the same exact thing when comparing guys like buddy rich to moon, making it sound like it is a fact. You are not being any better than him, so don't be getting at people for doing something, and then doing the same exact thing. Not to mention ur last words were kinda provocative

  • @beaconmike founding father of rock drumming yes, keith didnt have to do anything else, because this is what he did, never practiced, just played with the who. technically good? ehhh, sloppy? sure, but that doesnt mean he wasnt a bad technical drummer, it was his style, how he chose to play

  • True enough, my friend

  • i do the johnny bravo to this.

  • He sure did beat the hell out of those drums huh?

  • I dont care how old this band is their music is so much better then so of the "music" these days

  • I FREAKING LOVE THE WHO!!!!!

RIP KEITH MOON: THE ULTIMATE DRUMMER

RIP JOHN ENTWISTLE: THE ULTIMATE BASS GUITARIST

  • We had the best 'cause we were the ORIGINALS!

  • The Who is Awesome! Haha I love them! I love older music too. I love how the people actually play the instruments themselves! My daddy would be proud if he knew I love the Who :) even know I'm only 14 Haha

  • So wait...what bands do YOU love that WE don"t..:-)..and why do you care so much about

  • He was pretty fucking good. Maybe not technically but he improvised in an amazingly spastic and yet sublime way!

  • most of the so called bands now can't even read music much less play a musical instrument ..they 'remix' everything and pretend to be 'artists'

  • @Warthog 5050. Actually The Who couldn't either. After Pete damaged his first guitar, he ended having to rob a store to get another.

  • 1:11- 1:17 Keith Moon's face is pricless! I'd pay a ton of money to have that exact frame as a huge poster in my room.

  • Nobody could afford to play like that today because of the cost of replacing all the worn out and abused equipment .

  • I was at this concert, Oh my god - lol

  • If we want a music revolution we need tojoin together, make a club/facebook page, and start going to clubs and playing this stuff. And definately stop selling music online or else no one's gonna make a penny. Everybody start a 60's cover band and make music that sounds like it was made back then. If I hear it, I'll buy the CD. The music industry follows what the majority likes, if we can prove enough people like this stuff were good.

  • I was there what an era to be a teenager !!!

  • THIS IS ANOTHER FAKE "GIG" shot at the Marquee (which was a small club). If this were a real show, it would be CRAMMED full of people to the stage and around the sides. They couldn't fit the cameras in so they had the bands play in the afternoon for shoots. you can even HEAR the empty room. (the reverb)

  • that club was a notorious sweat pit too, and they wouldn't have been wearing their jackets etc. this was a FILM shoot at the club.

  • Look at that guy on drums! Now that ladies and gentlemen is what I call rocknroll

  • These guys were Sonic Youth before Sonic Youth was Sonic Youth.

  • it's so fun watching Keith go into overdrive mode and beating the crap out of his drum kits :)

  • Fantastic! They were always bustin shit up!

  • awsome just awsome they look amazing sound amazing

    LOVE THE WHO!!!!!

  • People hit the dislike button because they did not like the fact that there was not an

    I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! button

    I INVENTED IT

  • @skyguitar321 and I'm clicking on it 1,000,000 times a second

  • It appears that Pete T. might have seen a Jimi Hendrix performance or two, I think Hendrix was in London around that time (1967)

  • my question is why, during one of the most famous bass solos in the history of music, is the camera not on john? especially 0:52-0:55. I mean, come on.

  • When Pete Townshend appears, Chuck Norris go to hide in the deepest cavern !

  • amazing distorion

  • Keith Moon was the best drummer to ever walk the earth

  • @Disasterpeice6sic6

no no Sir, you are wrong, the best one ever was the famous lawyer and detective Perry Mason, from the Pink Floyd

  • @Horushu yeah i give u that but, come on keith moon, he is like the founding father of drumming

  • @Disasterpeice6sic6 wrong-o.

  • @Disasterpeice6sic6 i would disagree and say that john bonham and kieth moon are the best drummers

  • @phoenix53100 im gunna have to agree with u
