Thanks I enjoyed this movie recently and while I am usually reserved in my opinion of the "arts" I have grown fond of this character. I spend quite a bit of time in a Postictal recovery and watched this while in a complete aura. I am also an alcoholic, addict, adhd, type person with a seizure disorder who never quite found his way although mastering many, many things, lol My connection may be more than subtle Huh? His issues may have been deeper but I "see' how the synaesthesia was a role .Rick

Mr. Douglas and Mr. Quinn are icons! Present actors doesn't have an inch of talent compared to them! Kudos to the guy who uploaded this vid, Lust for life is the best book i've ever read!

I love this movie, and vincent is my favorite painter. I think that Kirk could interpret very well the personality of van gogh and his passion/obsession for painting =)
Thank you to share this video extract with us. I like much the extract that you chose when Van Gogh receives with enthusiasm his friend Gauguin. This scene shows us a Van Gogh disordered and Gauguin a little meticulous. One of the most beautiful biography on the life of this artist magnificiently interpreted by Anthony Quinn and Kirk Douglas. It is pleasant to re-examine this movie.

notwithstanding Kirk Douglas' wonderful performance. Anthony Quinn's presence really sparks the movie!

Well Van Gogh was difficult to live with. Its not easy living with someone with mental health issues.

Uhh...why do they have American accents? Hollywood was lazy in the 50s.
JobberBud 2 years ago 2
they could have gotten french actors... oh wait- there are no french actors as masterful as mr. quinn and mr. douglas
bradleyshepard 2 years ago
Yeah...but not masterful enough to fake an accent right?

I understand that John Wayne didnt like Douglas playing Van Gogh. He felt that macho actors should play macho characters.
Thank God Kirk didnt pay attention to that. This is my favorite movie of all time.

I wonder why??? Who won the Oscar that year for Best Actor in Leading Role?

I think it was Yul Brynner for 'The King and I'.

Anthony Quinn's performance equals the one by Montgomery Clift in Judgment At Nuremberg, both very short but compeling nevertheless.
