  • 9:25 cracked me up, Comedy Genius !!

  • That was a really good video thanks man.

  • Where are you from? You have like zero accent. You sound young but you really know what your talking about. great vid brudder. But there is no "g" in "aux" " augx " to " ox " and you golden ;) heh You would make a good adjunct teacher

  • Hey, I've been thinking of starting to record some stuff with my friend. Just for fun, you know, like a hobby. And I was thinking of buying, was it ProTools MP. So will it be enough for recording or do I need anything else? Mics of course but anything else? Please somebody who has experienses reply! Thank you!

  • @TheRopep You need an M audio interface to work with M powered software.

  • somebodys bakin brownies

  • Not only the content is beneficial, I believe there are a few professionals who can also be articulate and organized when describing instructions... You're one to follow! Excellent job, Sir Mic! From Vmc25@

  • Dude you're fantastic!

  • thnk you !

  • yo i downloaded a pdf file called The Mixing Engineers Handbook Through A Torrent File. And It Frequently Mentions Reverbs and Delays. I dont Know What THe Hell It MEans. Make A Video Explaining THe Basics. Oh. ANd I want To Make SOngs But I dont Know How TO master The Beats I create

  • lol. my name is micah too

    js. Lol.

  • eyo imma beginner at pro tools and i just bought pro tools m-powered 8 and the m-audio fast track pro and when i try to record somthin the quility sounds all distorted and it somtimes doesnt pick up my vocals what could i do to fixed this please reply and thanks :)

  • which one are you using, LE or Essentials ?

  • Comment removed

  • PS it's au X, not 'awggs'

  • i think it was farts

  • can this program fun on any PC?

  • can you put a compressor in the aux? i ask that because wouldnt you still get the dry uncompressed signal? and obviously if you want to compress something, you dont want the dry. (great vid)

  • HELP :-( my songs/sessions sound PERFECTLY mixed (in protools) but after I bounce it to wav/mp3 the quality becomes HORRIBLE. what am i doing wrong or not doing in the space between being totally done with the song and prior to bouncing???

  • Is this going to be the same information as using Pro Tools 9? I've never worked with this program before. But I'm going to probably start with PT9.

  • one question.. why is that everytime i input a track on pro tools, like, a beat so i can sing on it. the beat always sounds different? if the beat has effects on both ears, like making echo and stuff like, i never feel it on pro tools. or it sounds just on one ear.

  • Okay, this will probably sound dumb but for some reason when I record vocals every now and then I have an issue where the volume fades in and out. I save and close out, reboot and still have the problem. It's not often, but so far I've only recorded myself and would REALLY like to get to the bottom of this before I start having others come to record cause I want to be ready to go when they get to the spot. lol Thanks

  • @refuse2bstopped This might be caused if you have a condenser microphone that someone sings to close to it and spits all over it. The saliva creates short circuits inside of it making the recording to come in and out. Installing a pop filter and singing farther my fix this problem after letting the mic dry.

  • Excellent video! Good instruction on the use of Aux tracks, Master tracks, EFX.

I am able to follow you, and your knowledge appears to be crafted from years of using DAW's and EFX, etc... My age is 48, but I am a 31 year Singer/Songwrither, and have been recording with an analog Console, and some of the most sought after outboard gear available. I've beeb using it and a Tascam MX 2424 Digital HD recorder, with great converters. You are very helpful.

    Thank a lot,

  • What are you using to record these videos?

  • does anybody know what would cause my mic to pick up really low when i record? and how i would be able to fix it...im new to this so im trying to get everything hooked up rite

  • hey man or anyone who can help .. im trying to setup pro tools so i can record for mixtapes .. and i need the basics on this im trying to test recording .. how do i setup the input cause i have no idea what to do ?

  • hey dude your vids are really good. spot on man. i was wondering if you could put up a tutorial for automating effects ie a reverb effect? Much love!

  • hey dude how did you get your sends etc on your edit screen? much love

  • HEY HOW'S GOIN? IM USING M POWERED 8 PRO TOOLS. THE FISRT TIME IT WORKD WELL IN BOUNCE 2 DISK BUT NOW WHEN I EXPORT THE FILE, AND PLAY THE WINDOW PLAYER ASKS 4 CODEC DONT WAT THE HEG THAT S. ANY ADVICE?

  • how many audio tracks with plugins like dverb or autotune and virtual instruments and rewires can macbook pro hundle with pro tools 8, anyone of you guys did trye it please let me know

    Thanks

  • cheers 4 that , always blame it on the chair :D

  • Two questions.. if you have a reverb on the AUX channel set to 100% mix (wet) then I don't see how you are going to control the spatial quality. Perhaps I am confusing wet/dry with the mix level?

Second, what is the purpose of dither? Why would I use it, and what are the ramifications if I don't? This is something of a loaded question since I believe dithering take the track from 24-bit to 16. Wouldn't things like an MP3 or AAC encoder do this as well?

  • @DaveRoscoe1 the spatial quality is set on the reverb itself. predelay and early reflections. You want to set the aux send to 100% wet so that you will not have a double of the dry signal sent to it. Then increasing the level of the send in essence make the signal seem "wetter". But spatially, use the settings in the reverb, or different reverbs themselves. good question.

  • Hey whats up man I love the video man...i would like to ask you a question. I'm having trouble setting my outboard compressor. Here is my setup: AKG C414, Alesis 3630 compressor, Focusrite TrakMaster Pro, Digi002 and protools 8. I just need to know what a good setting is to start with for rap and r&b vocals or if you can do a video on compression. Thanks man. Keep up the good work.

  • why didn't you make a stereo aux instead of making 2 mono tracks for reverb and add two times the same plugin for reverb?

  • @acicalandome try both techniques and you tell me.

  • was a bus

  • hey great tutorial!!..what are the usual things you put on an aux track?like would you put an EQ or Compressor on an Aux track?

  • @JaySwagga65 if you send your trak to an AUX EQ you will still hear the original un-EQed signal. this would likely create some phase/ frequency artifact issues.

EQ can be nice after a Verb or delay in an AUX so that you can tweak the frequencies of the effect.

Comp is awesome in buses, especially parallel compressing drums to get a hard New York slamming feel. just have to be aware of latency and phasing issues when doing this, you want to ping your tracks to make sure it's all in sync.

  • dude u suck im a ceartified engineer, why would you fead into an aux and then to the stereo buss all you have to do is send every track to 1 and 2 stero out and if you wanna muix down just plug 1 2 out from the back of the interface and then back in on in 1 2 mute the audio track make its input 1 and 2 and record have it on mute though putting an aux out 12 and having the stereo buss out 1 and 2 the aux will only add because the aux goes out the stereo buss aswell so ur just adding moresoun

  • @pattyisbamf where are your tutorials?

  • @pattyisbamf are you literate? or were you very high when you wrote this?

  • wat are buses ??

  • AUGGGGS channel...lol

  • ok so lets say i have 5 different TYPES of reverb? wut do i do then so i dont have 2 open so many reverbs?

  • Thanks a lot for that video!!!! 5 stars from me!!!

  • Dude Can you actually show us How to actually send the bus to the aux to the monitors. Cuz I dont know how to do none of that shit. Ur talkin ur not really showin. Why dont you actually create a whole new session, start from scratch and show us what to do??? Cuz its like ur teasing me and not really giving me the information I wanna hear. Thank You.

  • Yeah I think Pro Tools 8le Sucks too, Cuz I dont i understand it yet. I like Reason. I wanna learn Pro Tools though.

  • You don't like it because you can't use it??

Also, you can't record audio in Reason.

    x

  • good

  • im gonna be getting pro tool 8 m-powered soon and these videos are very helpful thanks.

  • The old blame it on the chair trick....Im onto you....lol

  • how u change ur vocie ?

example like when u sing or rap and ur vocie is not that gud u know how to mix ur vocie ?

  • Mic1 i have learned so much from your videos is there anyway you could put up a video of hwo to master like most peope have a mastering chain that they go thru like different types of pulgins to build and bring out a mix. I would just like to hear your mastering tips

  • @Jayn2662 dude get off his dick.

  • I have a problem. I followed your guide for setting up buses mix down, monitors, and such. I also labeled everything, but i can't seem to get the stereo audio final mix down channel to record data from inside the session. please help! is there any setting that i might have to change to get this to work? i am running Pro Tools LE on a PC. Please Help this is pissing me off!

  • HOW TO DOWNLOAD PROTOOLS

  • @YoungSwaggaZone4 u need a m box sound card to run pro tools , and u get pro tools when u buy a m box sound card

  • make sure you note that if you place reverb or effects on an aux, yes, you DO want 100% wet mix on that aux channel. You then control the amount of dry signal from the original signal in the amount it is "sent out" to the aux.. If you do not place 100% wet on the aux, then likely you will have some phasing problems, especially with non PTHD systems.

  • @mic1one thanx! for this tutorial, finally got it!

  • YOU SAVED MY LIFE

  • haha! I've been messin' with PT for 5 years, and never used a single aux track... But i built a new computer every year an always put my file on an external HD to say Pross Speed so putting a ton of the same plugins never wrecked me...but I now know a better way... gracious!

  • what is a bus

  • big yellow thing

  • hey great tutorials, ? after making monitor bus & aux track and sending them to monitor aux track. now im not able to solo individual tracks, without soloing aux track. it didnt seem like you had to do that on the tutorial.

    pls help

  • 'Protools sucks, my pc keeps on crashing!' Verry recognisable! HAHA... Thanx for this verry good lesson...

  • great explanation of mixdown aux track. thanks!

  • thanks for the expert lesson man.

  • This is one of the most important things for a beginner:) I remember when I've been doing the same mistakes until I've found that SEND channel in Cubase SX...No one told me about it before so that kind of tutorials are very helpful indeed!

  • GOOD Information!!!!.... THANKS!!!

  • cool tutorials man. do more pls :D

  • thank you very much

  • riskycbk i need that answer as well!!! post that up asap

  • Hello mic1one,

I just have a quick question, when i try to bus multiple plug ins like EQ, COMP, Desser, and Reverb on one AUX mono track, it does not seem work the same versus adding each plug in on each track. Any suggestion? I would really appreciated.

  • riskycbk: From what I know EQ,COMP, DESSER chain must be used as an INSERT so the whole signal will go trough it . Reverb, delay you may use as SEND on AUX tracks...This may be the reason why it sounds different to you...

  • Great Freakin Tips!

  • Hey I think this video tutorial u did is so intelligent. Thanks for the tips.

  • QUESTION: I need to create separate headphone mixes for a tracking session, so that every individual headphone output has its own mix eg. one guy may want more bass, another guy might want more guitar, so what I did was set up sends to those output channels but I couldn't get any signal

What would be the best way to go about creating separate headphone mixes inside pro tools? and is this even a feasible way because of latency issues that could occur?

  • yea but if your sending more than one track to the same channel with a certain reverb and delay, doesnt that mean that im forced to have those tracks with the exact same reverb and delay?? what if i want them all to have reverb, but not the same kind of reverb.

  • Nice Tutorial.....I do have a question....I am a little confused....so basically what you were doing at the end there was taking everything and mixing it down to one track w/o bouncing.......SO U CAN DO THAT WITH VOCALS AS WELL?? EX.

If I stacked the main vocal 2 or three times...once I mix it how i want it....I can combine those 2 or 3 tracks into one w/o having to bounce them down?

I have been doing this the hard way for a long time....Trying to conserve tracks

  • yeah you can make busses for cymbals, back up vocals, overdubs its very handy.

  • chair squeak, ya right... ...ya hey that was a good tutorial. Thanx for taking the time to make and share this info. Cheers from BC Canada!

  • learning to mix is the best benefit to you here.

  • If i were you i'd dump reason 3.0 upgrade to 4.0 and get protools 8

  • you're friend sounds old

  • Hi is it better to put 2 mono reverb or one stereo reverb to get nice vocal

  • try it out and you tell me what you hear. Try 3 reverbs... 4? pan them different. Let your ears be the judge.

  • it is a big difference with 2 mono reverbs I used 2 L/R short & 2 L/R long for lead vocal mono very nice and thank you for that.

  • Man, thanks for your videos. You are awesome!

  • Can u show the mastering steps that u do to master the final mix that u did for this song?

  • you dont teach that stuff. and mastering is a science and art. you dont teach that nor can you just learn it. basically eq tracks dont compress everything. use light compression on the master track and a overall eq.. i like eq'ing first then compress then add a limiter. be careful you can easily ruin a track.. look up loudness war. eq/compress/limit/stereo expansion/ harmonic excitement (sonic maximizers) it takes years to really understand mastering.

  • I never mastered the song. But the mastering engineer would probably do something like this. EQ----->Compress------>exciter or widener---------->limiter------------->dither.

Sometimes they rearrage the order depending on the source material. But really mastering takes years to get right.... the same goes for mixing, but I would never discourage anyone from trying to learn it on their own. Get Bob Katz book, "Mastering Audio". Theres a great deal to be learned from that book.

  • What's the advantage with recording your track in real-time?

  • hey bro! nice tutorial vids!! awesome tips!! I can consider myself your friend on this chapter lol.. cuz it happened to me hehe lol 10 reverbs on the THING and it crashes.. haha lol

btw just another numb question there should be no clipping (distorcion/red light )at all in all the channels right? you music on this tutorial is hella sick! I like the lead!

  • I feel you bro, I learned the hard way also. Every once in a while clipping is ok, just as long as it is not audible. Of course monitors will help you decide what is acceptable. But generally, yes, you want to avoid clipping. Keep your tracking and your mixing levels low. I mix no higher than -6dbFS on my final mix.

  • hey bro another question do you use a Master Fader Cuz i used in one project and when i tried to reduce the volumen i kinda didnt work cuz you know i put izotope and i guess this made it sound super loud ...well anyways yeah my question was do u use the master fader?

  • The angels rejoiced when i saw this video dude....

thanks so much, this helped out a lot

    :D

  • in que music

    *HALLELUJAH!!*

  • These videos basically prevented countless hours of wasted time and mistakes! Thank you so much man! I don't know what else you could possibly cover but I'd watch it and be sure to learn something!

And your music is great too. Keep it up dude.

  • You are welcome. Glad I could save you hours of wasted time. =)

  • wait you never went back to talking about the midi track setup from the other video. i'm a protools noob i need help with setting up my akaimpd24 and recording it into midi tracks.

i can see the its working but i cant hear the playback... :( if you could help i'd love you forever

  • If you see signal that means your mpd is hooked up correctly for midi. You do realize that the mpd is just a controller and has no sounds, right? You will need to make an instrument track and load a softsynth such as battery and have samples loaded for you to hear the playback.

  • Your tutorials are great. Thanks for putting them out there. How do you do the mastering of a song though. Do you master with that mixdown track? That's where I get thrown off.

  • Mastering is your last step in the production process. Preferrably have a professional master your mixes in a tuned room, with mastering grade gear. If you're on a budget, you can attempt to master you own projects but be prepared to have a lot of patience.

  • micone you are the best i must admit you get to the point.

  • you have da best tuts on pro tools do u work 4degi!

  • no I don't work for digi, but I wouldn't turn down a job from them =)

  • Thanks man! Your tutorials gave a pretty good grasp about Pro Tools! I'm an uber beginner so bear with me. Keep them coming!

  • Camtasia 6. Really cool program.

  • Great tutorial. You summed up some important features in an easy manner. I always think of busses driving on different routes. A bus is routing the audio to different tracks. So I think of routing as busses driving on routes. Works for me.

  • Thanks. Thats good imagery of busses. Never thought of it like that but it makes sense.

  • what video software do u used for recording?
