@outlawstarr417 they drew it. every single freaking picture that forms this scene. it took some 20+ years to draw the whole movie (most of it, until they decided to drop it and animate it the crappy way, leading it to be named a copy of Disney's Aladin, which is actually a copy of this movie.).
Thank you, Cracked, for shining some new light on this AMAZING work of art. Now let's all pay tribute to Richard Williams by sharing this for other people to see.
Oh my God.... this is "WTF?", distilled and put into animation. This is a bigger trip than LSD, and makes Pink Floyd's The Wall look utterly conventional.
I don't know if this is genius or horrid, but it's something that can legitimately called both, neither, and said that it doesn't matter.
@JamesBrookeExplorer Probably because the scenes with the evil one eye army are so cool and scary looking and also probably because of the awesome music and animation.
if this was lost, couldn't they just bring it up again? I love this, but when I searched through youtube, there are so many friggin' versions!!! I don't know which one is the original or the actual one. i need help.....
If ever I ever win the millon on lottery, mark my words, I will pay people to see that this film is made the way it's was supposed to be. I'll take the the Recobbled Cut and make sure that it's finished the way it was supposed to be with the highest of quality. This movie is a masterpiece, and it derserve to be finished. :')
@NICEfilms1000 I looked into this, and apparently it's on the original workprint. So yet another thing to add to the list of things screwed over when this movie was shit-canned. :(
@GoatOfGandhi Because the storyboard scenes are the ones that were cut from the original film to make it more marketable. This version was never released in theaters or on video, so fans got the storyboards and pasted Richard Williams' original intent together, which is this Recobbled Cut. This is as close to the original film as we're ever going to see
@GoatOfGandhi Because Richard Williams didn't finish the film past deadline, so Warner Brothers rejected him. So Miramax, along with Fred Calvert, decided to edit the film without Richard Williams, thus making Williams' masterpiece into something horrid.
Luckily, fans of Williams' work had decided to restore the film to its original intention, using only the Highest Quality animations they can find (Including Story-boarding, Line Animation, Low Quality, etc.), thus producing this!
What a amazing animation, damn, I really wanted this movie to be a huge success, too bad executive meddling and lots of other problems hold the movie for 30 freakin' years, also, I happy they did this "how it should have been" version, it's really nice, and heck I'll show this to my kids (if I ever have one in the future :P), because beautiful animations must be watched by everyone!
Your response, on the other hand, was quite humorous. Especially seeing it in my inbox, since your "I am not amused"-face avatar was right next to it.
@afivey well portal didnt defy physics, it just introduced physics not yet explained. btw i liked portal, Portal 2 was funny, Cave Johnson was hysterical
this film could have single handedly brought back the animation industry from its dark ages, given Disney a clear punch in the nose, and cemented animation's place in the industry as an admirable and legitimate medium of top notch storytelling. What could have been...
@coltranesteelkirt A film like this released in 1993 couldn't do much, for Don Bluth and Disney had already done most of the necessary work anyway. But imagine a film like this released in 1972. Back when Animation needed a real kick starter to bring it back from its dark ages, when people wanted to see epic movies, and so forth. 1972, when Disney was without Walt Disney and releasing nothing more than sub par animated films.
@tehUBERn00blet It came out back in around 1992-1994. By then people had already seen Secret of Nimh, Little Mermaid, Land Before Time, and worst of all, Aladdin. If this film had gotten released by 1974, when it should have, people would have been blown away. But it was released 20 years too late. It;s like releasing the original King Kong, as we know it, by the year 1963, instead of 1938 or so where it should have been. Understand? It came out too late, and when it did, it was old hat.
@onehundred10million I found out more about this film after I replied to your comment, and also found out how brutally reduced the film had become. Hence the need for this "recobbled" version. Perhaps it wouldn't have suffered so bad if it at least maintained it's originally intended artistic integrity :(
I feel bad that they put so much time and effort into this movie and it fell to the wayside. Probably, if it was finished full budget and uncut, it would have been much better.
Oh my goodness...this is some of the best, most awesomest animation I've ever seen...and it's all hand-drawn... I would freakin' LOVE to see this movie fully finished as it was intended to be.
I actually saw this when I was a kid. I remember nothing of when or why I saw it, but it must have been my dad who took me. I had myself pretty much convinced it was either a false memory or a memory of something I'd never reasonably expect to find out more about. Thanks, Cracked and Youtube, for making rummaging through my memory a bit less frustrating.
