How about these questions:Do you know that burning coal is the largest cause of global warming? Do you know science has concluded that global warming is the greatest threat to civilization and life on earth? Do you know that we already have cleaner, safer ways to make electricity (wind, solar, geothermal? Have you considered how short-sighted it is to use our atmosphere --the air that we breathe-- as a sewer for the toxic mercury, sulphur and other poisons emitted from burning coal?
Just like I always say people are idiots. nuclear power, coal, oil yes in dc, and natural gas are a like the only difference is what they use to make the energy. wind turbines use the wind to turn a turbine to create energy. hydro electric dams use water on a hill to push it down the hill and force it into a pipe that goes into a turbine that turns the turbine. their are several ways how to use solar power so I won't go down that pathway. I am not trying to offend anyone I am stating a few facts.
My electric bill is about to go up 18% thanks to my power company's heavy reliance on coal. It's about time Congress passed legislation to get us off fossil fuels and into a clean energy future.
People are misinformed about how and where coal is mined. Yes, in the E it has been extracted from mountains underground. In the W it is extracted from a vast wasteland from where I was born and raised. Coal mining is the most regulated industry in the U.S. Coal is for the most part safe & clean. Co's wld be shut dwn othrwse. If you dis coal, you better have worked and lived it first or at a bare min. do some real research, not just repeat what a fanatic spouts on their anti coal Blog.

Coal can never be clean if we continue to get it from mountaintop removal mining sites. Sorry.
