However, the blond lady after Louis Armstrong is the Norwegian protege called Tine Thing Helseth. And if you happen to do another edition, include Ingrid Jenssen and Gunhild Carling too.
There are only 8 possible "fingering" positions, and 2 are rarely used (third valve alone; and first, second, and third valves together). So learning the right "buttons to push" to get the right notes is relatively easy. But to play at this level is hard (it is very, very hard). Other than the 6 simple "fingering" positions -- it's all in the lips. Unless you have played the trumpet (which I use to -- very badly) it's hard to appreciate how truly talented these people are.
I know I'm biased, but if you are the best trumpet player that automatically also makes you the best musician -- since no instrument is better. (Sorry to all you violin and other players out there -- but none of you have better lips than a trumpet player.)
If you've ever played in a brass quintet, thank trumpeters Ronald Romm, Fred Mills, and Rolf Smedvig, who paved the way. If you've ever played in a brass ensemble, thank Philip Jones, who was the master.
"of all time".....hmmmm some names are for sure amazing players but to give them the "world all time greatest" title....?! and you are missing some names who have done more then some of those in your list, like Malcoml McNab, Jerry Hey, Thomas Gansch,Adam Rapa,Horst Fischer and many more. But its always difficult to make one complete list.
How is it that you used a the actual clip and recording of Tine Thing Helseth and you did not include her name on the list? :-) In my opinion, even though young, she's right up there with the very best.
I heard an interview of Arturo Sandoval when I lived in Miami and he was asked him on his opinion who was the best... The ansewr... Rafael Mendez.
