@JermHD I have used the canon 50mm f1.8 a little... The overall quality is the same. The canon lens is slightly sharper from f1.8 to f2 but not much better otherwise. The bokeh on the canon is not as good I found... the 5 blade aperture makes wide open shots look like they were made on a holga... but from f2.8 onward they are the same... Hope that helps.
So you can put all of these old Minolta autofocus lenses on the new Sony cameras and they'll still autofocus- even without an adapter? That's pretty cool.
@ar4216 Yes indeed you can put all the minolta autofocus lenses on the Sony SLR's.
The opposite works as well! you can put Sony Autofocus lenses on Minolta SLR's (provided that some SSM motor lenses only work with certain film SLR's)
@jfcash84 its easy to carry and comfertable, and it actually spoils ya cause when i forget what certain features will do....BOOM!!! it tells you ...LOL!!!
@ckingphoto I'm going to try my Sony 18-55 on my Maxxum, I want to see that image circle cut off, I can see it in the viewfinder, plus, I have to use it in MF mode, but hey, why not?
@jfcash84 I've put my sony 18-70 on my maxxum 5 before... I think I could use 20 or 22mm... it will work but at 18mm the image will only be a small circle in the frame...that's all.

Now this is how you do a focus speed video, don't just put the cap on and watch it hunt back and forth, the lens will behave diferentlywhen hunting.
Good job.

@Drinapropriatetouch Thanks very much, I tend to focus on real-world usage over lab tests...
