The 1st tornado machine shown here was made at Perdue University, the 2nd was by Prof C.C.Chang in the 60's and of course the 3rd being Ted Fujita's machine :)
Neil Ward's tornado machine (4th) was awesome with the set up he had, there is a basic diagram on how it worked.
I'm going to be working on a new set up on my tornado machine today, as I have a few ideas for the updraft fan :)
Once the machine is up and running, I'll post some videos :)
I'll be starting work in a hardware store next wk and will be able to get the extra parts I need to reconstruct the machine, since the original parts got trashed.
Hopefuly it will the work on the machine will be able to start in the next 3/4 wks :)
The new model will be made to have adjustmentable levels of swirl ratio, to allow more detailed studies of multiple vorticies and vortex breakdown :)
how can you make an multi vortex tornado machine, I am fascinated and want to try and study to multiple vortices, is it easy cause it seems hard, I did make one with stirophone for debris but I had to throw it away cause I was making a huge mess
Ted Jujita's Machine operated similarly to mine, except that I used a fan that I could have suspended and handheld for both stationary and non-stationary experiments :)
I'm looking to get my tornado machine up again, but it won't be untill the renovation work is completed on my house, and I don't know yet when it's going to start :)
I use a smoke machine for the tracer instead of dry ice, which gives the same good visual effect.
Thank you for uploading this, top rating always :)
It's kinda funny though because on my machine, I used external inflow panels, that were located well outside the tornado's circulation zone, but yet I was able to get suction vortices, but these were more life like, where they would mostly be in the immediate vacinity of the parent funnel itself :)
I'll try and find some old footage on a previous recording and convert it for upoloading :)
It was the first one to be filmed during a storm chase. All tornadoes filmed before that were shot by people who just happened to be there and had movie cameras to film them with.
i have one of those at my local science musem! if you stick your hand in it, it acts funny!

Tornado machines from what I heard are really expensive and it'll take a life time to get the money for it

You're welcome! Can you record some video of your tornado machine when you get it running again?
ColonelAngus75 3 years ago
I certainly will buddy :)

Hmm, but that wasn't the first tornado ever filmed I'm pretty sure...?

Oh I see, I did wonder.
