I support Boricuas and their pride 100%, however, most Puerto Ricans that I know are not proud because of the reasons Rosie stated in the video. Most of the ones I know are proud for reasons of vanity.

I should say that I love Puerto Rico - the island, the people, the language, the culture. But, Boricuas are people, just like the rest of us, and the excessive ethnic pride she shows is exactly the same thing that caused all the ills she enumerates in the first place. Also, it is regrettably true that some bad things have happened to the island - but just compare the island against Cuba and Hispaniola and see where the people are better off. In Cuba you couldn't even say these kinds of things.

I really enjoyed this film despite its many flaws. I live in Brooklyn and have Puerto Rican friends and love PR women. This movie fully embodies the spirit of being a New Yorican. I'm in love with the culture! It's a must see.

This is a trailer of a documentary film by Rosie Perez which we presented to our student body. It is by far one of the best depictions of the Puerto Rican Culture, History, and of course Pride.

I should say that I love Puerto Rico - the island, the people, the language, the culture. But, Boricuas are people, just like the rest of us, and the excessive ethnic pride she shows is exactly the same thing that caused all the ills she enumerates in the first place. Also, it is regrettably true that some bad things have happened to the island - but just compare the island against Cuba and Hispaniola and see where the people are better off. In Cuba you couldn't even say these kinds of things.

Upon Puerto Rico being given to the U.S. by Spain has a concesion of peace.The priority of the U.S. was to develop the socio economic infrastructure in the island.from 1989 and for like 40 to 50 years the only thing you could get out of Puerto Rico were nothing but cheap farm labor.

The US likes to sugarcoat things. All the pain and anguished it caused was covered up by programs it developed to keep the public unaware.
The PRs could have become professionals on the island without the "helpful programs" of the US. We weren't given the opportunity.

They certainly didn't do it unintentionally ; of course there are motives but in the case of the U.S. it was to generate progress and social development from within its own people; There certainly wasn't a herd of Anglo Americans moving in to Puerto Rico You can count the number of them actually living in the Island at any time since 1889 and you wont reach 100,000...Currently there are more than 250,000 Dominican Cubans and other groups legally & Illegally

I really enjoyed this film despite its many flaws. I live in Brooklyn and have Puerto Rican friends and love PR women. This movie fully embodies the spirit of being a New Yorican. I'm in love with the culture! It's a must see.
