  • That was pretty expensive even back then - I think!!!

  • I still have my coleco vision and play it.

  • I wonder if I can get one for $99.99 or less on Black Friday at Target.

  • I have an Coleco Visions in my closet with about 2 doz games. It stil works.

  • An answering machine for $120??? Holy shit, people back then must be shitting themselves after seeing a $15 phone at kmart

  • I did not even know a Target was open back then. They just began opening in Boston in the 2000s.

  • Didn't target use to be Richway?

  • @southport97 - Not originally - Richway was originally owned by Rich's Department Stores. They were later bought by Federeated Department Stores and changed most of the stores into Gold Circle in 1986, then they were bought by Target's parent company in 1988, and all the remaining Gold Circles became Targets. Rich's Department Stores went out of business in 2005.

  • Television not included? I want my money back!

  • you know, thats not a bad price for a console. Today the same price would make a 360 like 500 dollars. which is about the same price as owning a 360 for 5 years since you have to keep replacing them or fixing them because they break; but whatever, this is a pointless youtube drunk comment; which I will regret in the morning.

  • damn, atone time there were 19 Targets in all of LA, now there like 7 of them just in the San Fernando Valley alone

  • ALL FUCKING 19 STORES? DAMN MAN, I HOPE THEY OPEN ONE NEAR WHERE I LIVE SOON!

  • Didn't know Target was that old!

  • Can't wait to go to Target and get one.

  • Looks like that air purifier that the old man sells on those commercials

  • 169.99 in the early 1980's would be like $999.99 back then.

  • Wow target is that old

  • $129.99!?!?! My mom would have belly to belly supplexed my ass if I would have asked for this back then.

  • I had no Idea Target was that old.

  • @barlog20 the movie Career Opportunities , made Target a house whole name. Never heard of it till I saw that movie in 1991.

  • target is that old

  • Hmm.... Saving on Record-A-Call when buying a colecovision? Ironic since the Colecovision controller looks like a phone

  • "TV not included" ... -.-

  • 169.99 was a lot of cash back then when you consider that minimum wage was like 3 dollars a hour. my parents use to pay 75 bucks a month on rent back then.

  • can anybody tell me of what is the difference between collecovision and intellevision? and which one is better

  • =^.^=love colecovision, colecovision forever my friends yes yes yes yes <3<3<3

  • The answering machine was larger then the game console... hahah.

  • Attention Target Shoppers... Kevin's Mommy wants him home as soon as possible. he forgot his asthma puffer.

  • that is one hell of a answering maching....damn..

  • Dear Kevin,

    You're such a fag.

    Thank you.

  • Must have been the reopening of the old FedMarts.

  • i love how it says "tv not included" lol

  • enough about the colecovision being expensive...129.99 for an answering machine???? no way in hell....

  • Kevin Stop playing the Colecovision and call your mother

  • That's expensive , lol, even for now... Ha

  • Doe wii have a voice recorder?

  • no

  • Wow, picture quality must have been bad back then!

  • TV not included lol

  • $169.00 in 1983 was a lot of money. I didnt even bother asking for a Colecovision......there was no chance in hell.

I couldnt even get them to buy me Adidas...i had to wear "Olympians" they were sold at Bradlees and cost $12.00.

    Everyone knew we were poor.

  • Comment removed

  • @wgamador $169.99 in 1983 is close to 4 bills today. I had Olympians for play shoes, but I begged enough and my Mom got me Nike (pronounced NYK with no "e" back then) Burt Bruins (they were like $32.99, a cool $75.00 in todays' money) for school. Then I wore those to play baseball in and ripped the fuckers. I knew for sure at that point an ass whooping was headed my way, and I deserved it. My kid knows not to ask for $75.00 shoes, he is smarter than I was apparently.

  • @wgamador $169.99 in 1983 was about $382 today.

  • This is creepy for me... I currently work at Target and Colecovision was the first console I ever owned.

  • Dammit the TV isn't included.

  • @Deokishisu Yeah. I like those disclaimer, too ^^

  • i liked the part when somebody didnt say: "keven call your mother ffs" on here.

  • What an inconsiderate jerk. Kevin's mom just gives and gives, but kevin's so lazy he can't even be bothered to pick up the phone!

  • kevin stop being crap and call your freakin mother

  • Remember kids....TV NOT INCLUDED!

  • He still hasn't called his mother more than 20 years later!

  • @mindofmorrison Dayton Hudson did not grow Target by spreading out from the home office (Minneapolis), they deployed by market demographics. One example was they completely skipped Kansas City to open in demographically superior Wichita, KS.

  • RIP OFF,talk about hyperinflation my God!!!!

  • Kevin, call your mother you ungrateful piece of garbage!!!

  • Wow! Great find!

  • My dad paid under $300 for this system back in Dec. 1982. Purchased it at Gemco.

Man, those were the good old days

  • Wow, systems were new back then. Now, a freaking Xbox360 is 200 dollars or more!

  • @Tributor123 Yeah but account for inflation--$170 was about $380 in today's money. So, console costs aren't much different today.

  • fuck it, i won't buy it unless the t.v. is included.

  • OF COURSE the tv is not included.

  • That calling machine is very similar to the one They Might Be Giants used for Dial-a-Song, wooh.

  • @exposed97 Learn to take care of shit better than. And quit your bitching.

  • Are these still on sale? These seem like a pretty good deal.

  • hey thanks for the heads-up. I'm going to Target this Saturday to pick me up a Colecovision, It's gonna be Killa!!!

  • @joestradamus75

Did they have any left in stock? :)

I'd hit every Target in my area and buy up each store's entire stock. Keep one for my collection and the rest head to ebay for $350 each!

  • @19psi who knows, maybe buried very deeply in one of their old warehouses is an unopened Colecovision.

  • Damn! When I was a kid, In My neighborhood(The Ghetto!) If you owned a Atari 2600 or Colecovision system or If you even had cable t.v. or Air conditioning, You were considerd -$-Rich! Even basic utilities were considerd a luxury! I spent alot of time alone in the dark with my friends, The ROACHES! (lol!)

  • That's a sweet TV. I would've bought it if it was included.

  • in the future atari and coleco and intelivision will be rare i will be rich i have 10 of each old game system in mint condition i will be rich!!!!!! ps1 and new game systems will be like atari and etc now

  • This was cheaper than the Playstaion 3 of today..lol

  • I had one of those early Record-a-call units back in the 80s and it had this little remote that produced a unique tone that the unit would recognize when you phoned home to check your messages. There were only so many different tones, so your messages could be hacked by people using war dialers and tone generators.

  • That had one stellar soundtrack! It really made me want to play some Donkey Kong!

  • I was laughing at "tv not included" too. But yeah $129 for an answering maching? Good grief. Thank heaven for voicemail now! lol

  • TV not included, fool!

  • thats pretty funny tv not included i should hope no one would think that the tv was included with the game system not for 169.99

  • @slipknot789able $169. back in 1984 is a lot of money compared to today. Prices are at least 10 times today on lots of things today, such as the gasoline price but gas prices are consistent with everything else.

  • @TheGreatCorneliuski

Jeez... I'm out of work. $169 is a lot NOW!!!!

  • remember when commercials used to actually show the product they were selling and try to convince you that you want it?

  • @ak47oooo Today: show a commercial that's related to the product in the most obscure way, trying to appeal to the customer by using something like humor or sex. I really miss the old days.

  • Tv not include xD

  • i didnt realize target was around then

  • @johnbourbon

The company has been around since 1902 as the Dayton Dry Goods Company, and officially opened the first Target branded store in 1962. So, Target stores have been around since 1962, but the main company behind it since 1902. :)

  • a ha! now i know!

  • and knowing is half the battle! :D

  • i heart gi joe

  • Crazy i live in rockford illinois..i guess like the third largest city in the state of illinois and we didnt get a target until like 96 or 97.Not that targets this GREAT place but it would have been cool when i was a kid instead of hanging out at K mart

  • Coleco kinda suffered from lack of games. Same thing that hurt Intellivision, & pretty much every single retro game system, until the original NES/Famicom. At least Coleco could play Atari 2600 games. That kind saved it. So many people had Atari. Graphics don't mean much if there are no games to play.

  • The Commodore 64 came before the NES and was probably THE most successful retro system ever made! but yes, the NES & Famicom were hugely successful :) Although i went straight from the C64 to the Amiga ;)

  • Epic responses here!

Target has been around God knows how long. And Coleco did beat the crap out of Atari. I had no idea that answering machines were over $100 back then.

  • TV not included, lmfao

  • Damn...$169 bucks!!! In 1982 that was a hell of a lot of coin. I guess the Wii at $199 isn't such a bad price. PS3 and X-Box at $400, there's your inflation baby. I had a ColecoVision in 1983 for Christmas. I thought I was the coolest kid on the block. Beat the hell out of the 2600 Atari. I wish I still had it.

  • Well for its time it was an amazing system! I only had 3 games for it, namely Donkey Kong, Turbo & Zaxxon but yes it was far more advanced than the Atari :)

  • 0:21

  • Kevin... Call your mother!

  • Target's been around that long?

  • Holy crap, I remember every electronics device was encased in wood during the 80's

  • I had that answering machine at my apartment in the 80s

  • did you ever get around to calling your mother?

  • Oh Crap I hope i make there before saturday!!!!!!!! lol

  • Geez, Kevin! Stop being a dick and call your mother already!

  • No, he's playing ColecoVision.

  • I got mine from Lowe's. The home improvement place.

  • I used to have a Colecovision.

Last time I was at Target, they actually had an Atari 2600 on sale, but it came built in with like 200 games. It was $90.

  • can i finance that coleco plus take my atari as trade in! lol

  • Damn that game system was expensive, especially for 1983.

  • LOL! TV not included!

  • Haha colico vision was 169.99

  • Kevin, call your mother!

  • LOL Record-A-Call!! Revolutionary!

  • My comment to the game system price: Goddamn

My comment to the answering machine price: Goddamn

    ..my rating: gawddayuhm!

  • I agree. The answering machine... hmmm, I'll pass, lolz.

The price for the game system would have been about right, especially since it already came with a game.

  • huh i never even knew target had been around so long

  • Holy crap!

  • I never even seen or heard of a Target store until around 1998 when the first one opened in south eastern PA. I guess they were a west coast thing back then? My parents bought me a 2600 at clover in around 82 for around 189 or so. Realize that 189 dollars in 82 was a lot more than it is now. It was originally $199 in 77, which is probably close to 500 in todays dollars. The original 77 version had MUCH better joysticks, but you wouldn't know it by looking at it (the insides were better made)

  • A Midwestern thing--they started in Minneapolis.

  • They are much nicer and have much better stuff than the other discount department stores like Walmart and Kmart.

  • tv not included- lol!! isnt that implied?

  • Call your mother! LOL

  • $169.99 wasn't much but atari 2600 was selling for less than $100 back then

  • TV not included....DUH!!

  • I spitted all my cola wen i saw TV Not included

  • "Kev-vin, call your motherrrr!" lol

Yeah I didn't even think there were Targets back then either. The first Target that opened up in my area anyway was like the mid 90's.

  • lol...only $169.99. Boy weren't we a bunch of saps back then.

  • in 25 years we will be saying the same thing about 360/ps3/wii.........lol

    but really,we will

  • @revolutionika Actually the PS3 and X-BOX 360, since the Wii is like a little brother to ColecoVision even though its not made by the same company AND the Wii plays old games from the NES, SNES etc. SO we'll be laughing at the PS3 and XBOX 360........oh what hell lets all laugh RIGHT NOW, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

  • The Colecovision was the PS3 of 1981-1983

  • 1982-1983

  • i saw that too lol

  • I have that system boxed up in the attic! Wow, memmories..... Remember.. Kong Fu Grip?

    GI Joe Was boss.

  • man take it out and do a review for us!

  • Nice sound effect.

    BBBBBBHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • There were Targets back then??? I'm 37, and the only department stores that I can remember were Richway and K-mart, and some big, huge JCPenney discount outlet. Wow - and,all this time I thought they surfaced in the late 90's ;)

  • I'm 39 and don't ever remember hearing of Target anywhere at that time.

  • If you check wikipedia (with a grain of salt) they state that Target started in 1902.

  • holy crap $130 for a answering machine!? it was almost as much as the colecovision! Space age.

  • "Kevin, call your mother..." is all Kev heard as he slid downward against the kitchen wall, hands trembling, his eyes scanning the darkened corners of the room. Wiping the sweat from his brow and taking a deep breath, Kev realized that there was a ColecoVison in the den where he retired for the evening to play Lady Bug and all was well.

  • I guess some time in the year 2028 we will look back ad say "400 dollars for that PIECE OF SHT Xbox 360"

  • @IU2BE2 Even better, we'll look back and think just how quaint and retro the PS3 was.

  • @IU2BE2 fuck 2028 I say that now. "Fuck that piece of shit Xbox 360".

  • @IU2BE2 people are saying that now...

  • I already say it now. I had two $400 systems RROD and one a free Halo edition that froze.

  • "KEVIN CALL YOUR MOTHER" that made me laugh!

  • kevin call your mother!!

  • I'm from Massachusetts and we only heard of Target since the 2000's

  • colecovision FTW HOW 169.99 HOW HOW HOW BULLFK FOR THAT PIECE OF SHT BUY SSBB FOR 69 DOLLARS (wii not included) JUST FOR THIS FKED UP SHT( sorry, mad at the price, forgot that it was 1980s)

  • answering machine has wood trim ....old school

  • guys we better get down there sale only last through saturday

  • LOL Gee and today is Friday I will get right on it. LOL

  • "Kevin, call your motheeeer"

    'NO!!"

  • tv not included lmao

  • So Target is a California based store?

  • 129.99 for an answering machine! DAMN! Those were the days baby.

  • I'd rather have the ColecoVision if it's just $40 more. :P

  • LOL, How much would that Stuff cost now..

    I don't know.. about 5 Bucks.. LOL

  • I'm more surprised they had Targets back then! Targets didn't start openining up in my area until the Playstation one hit stores.

That surprised me more than anything. The answering machine was funny too. That must have been cutting edge then!

  • That's psp"s price

  • PSP is actually cheaper than these since the money back then was worth more.

  • Hey the last PC I bought is much better and cheaper than the first one I ever bought too, go figure.

  • Yes, but this technology was new then - new video game market. Nobody had ever seen home video games before those days. It was a different era then...

  • Exactly, and Coleco games looked just like the games in the Arcade. Even had an expansion module so that you can play your Atari 2600 games.

  • I never knew how much Coleco cost until now. Of course for the time, $170 and these graphics were pretty groundbreaking but looking back 25+ years $170 is laughable. Ah the 80's, how I miss you so!

  • Wonder if Keven ever called mom, or is he still playing his Colecovision?

  • Back in those days-the early 80s i was around 16 and had my first job. I was making "good money" back then. Well, compared to 1983 salary for teenagers i was. I was making like around 6 bucks a hour while most other teenagers were lucky to make 3 a hour. I believe 3 a hour was minimum wage back then if im right. Anyways, all that money i was making went in on video games-colecovision, atari, and of course weekend trips to the local video game arcades!

Wonder how much i blew on that crap?

  • The MW was $3.75 until July 1985 when it was increased to $4.74. In 1997, it was again increased to $5.15.

  • lol TV not included!

  • holy crap it was target back then?? I thought they were gemco's...

  • Those 19 Los Angeles area Target stores are probably all Wal-Marts now.

  • TV not included lmao that was hillarious

  • Wow what an awesome commercial, I loved my Coleco, so many days off school playing it, but damn I really want one of those new answering machine thingys, they look hot!

  • Tv NOT included

  • i love the answering machine... it's the size of the Exxon Valdez ship.

  • ...and all for just $129.99!

  • With cassette tapes that had to be rewound.

  • I've GOT to laugh, when I was like 7, we had BOTH of those things!

  • That answering machine was....spooky...so big!

  • I remember I was like, 8 and those games were like, 60 bucks, like, remember?

  • I dont ever remember a game being more than $29.99 for any system back then. The first fifty-dollar game I ever saw was The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo which came out after Atari and Coleco had died out. In 85-86 once Nintendo and Sega crushed the early systems, you could get brand-new Atari games at the stores for $.99

  • Video games are getting more expensive nowadays. For a new Xbox 360 game, correct me if I'm wrong, it's a whopping $59.99

Who has that kind of money? $50 was alot of money then, and it's still alot of money now. For about $20 or so, I got this cheap-o-matic game system that has old school NES games on it. It's one of those plug-and-play thingamajiggies. I want a Nintendo Wii and I wonder how much the games are.
