I thought I only remembered one episode of this show, but I remember part of another: the team were about to fly somewhere for a playoff, and they bought insurance out of a vending machine at the airport, which in subsequent year I've never actually seen.
Salami ruled the universe. My favorite White Shadow episode was the 1 where Salami had this hot slut for a teacher and then he started banging her. She was even giving him good grades for tests he flunked because he was, so good at nailing her, but then he ruined it by getting jealous of 1 of her other hundred boy toys. I like to call that episode Salami Gets Lucky, Salami Gets Laid, or just Hide The Salami.
Wow, the easiest way to get a thumbs up on YouTube is to write some version of "they don't make 'em like they used to."
Which is funny, because people have been saying that for, um, forever. So I guess somewhere around 6,000 B.C. things were REALLY awesome.
Yes, this was a great show. But anyone who gushes over it is clouded by nostalgia. Right now we're in what's considered the golden age for television drama, kicked off by the Sopranos.
24, The Wire, Friday Night Lights, Lost, Deadwood...
Yeah, seems like it. Some things do improve, but it does seem that the better technology gets, the more shallow and lazy our culture gets. Not to mention---the technological products THEMSELVES get duller and duller. Hell--these new flatscreen TVs? What incredibly boring-looking devices. Give me a 1970s box with knobs and and a wooden frame anyday. (And coming from someone who didn't even exist in the 70s, that's saying something.)
This was such a great show and I have to agree with the folks here who say that shows were better then. They were topical and sometimes fearless, funny and in touch with reality.
I LOVED this show and wish that they would show re-runs!

Shit, I've seen mannequins play better defense than Carver and Team Yellow. I also like how the cameraman is right on the court.
Great show, though!

I may have been a 7 year old girl at the time, but I loved "The White Shadow". Watched it every week, and I wasn't even a basketball fan;-)

This show wasn't exactly "television drama."
And I don't know if I'd call this a "great show"...but it was ground breaking and entertaining as hell.
The world does get progressively worse, however...at least it sure seems that way to me.
As technology improves, the quality of nearly everything in the world declines, which is quite ironic.

Careful. If your mom catches you using the word "peckerhead" she might cancel the HBO.
