What is truly magnificent is the pristine natural sound of this old acoustic recording on your 1916 VV-X bringing out the unique quality of the McCormack voice.
It's a real treasure.
If I may be allowed one small quibble... McCormack was Irish, born in Athlone, Ireland in 1984. Became an American citizen about 1912 but returned to Ireland where he died in Dublin in 1945. I pass by his old home in Booterstown almost every day...
More of the same please on that wonderful vintage gramophone!
Balfe wrote some truly wonderful music. Bohemian Girl is a treasure, esp. its choruses. Check into his opera Falstaff, which isn't as well known. It was recorded in 2008 by Opera Ireland.
Neferkit, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. It is one of the truly great traditional Irish standards. You must be very proud of you relation. Thank you for watching.
Many years ago I sang this song in a school production, needless to say not half as well as McCormack. A friend of mine who visited Ireland several times was astonished at the beauty of the whole country, as any inhabitant knows.
Meltzerboy, Yes Ireland is magnificent; I sincerely hope to be able to visit it again before I shuffle off this mortal coil. For now McCormack transports my spirit there whenever I want. Thank you for the kind words. Regards, J.
Icorinth, It was either Chelsea or Everett, Mass. The VV-X was my fourth talking machine if I recall correctly. It's become the little work horse of my collection. Hope you enjoyed the clip. Regards, J.
Thanks for this video. Balfe is one of my favorite composers. His "Bohemian Girl" is, in my eyes, a masterpiece. All his compositions have something to recommend them.

@seanobriain1
Might I add a very obvious correction to my previous comment. McCormack, of course, was born in 1884!

A great song, one of the most favourite of McCormack`s recordings with the Irish people.
A beautiful setting for your magnificent gramaphone.

I'm so happy to have found this. Michael Balfe who composed the song was one of my ancestors. :-)

Gmmix, Very glad you enjoyed it. It's a fantastic piece. I was surprised I couldn't find anything on-line about it though.
