This is ridiculous! The Taste of Chicago is lots of FUN! The Taste runs for 10 days and over 3 Million people come out to have a good time. During the Fireworks show which happens after dark over 1 Million people are in Grant Park. There are bound to be a few incidents, but it is minuscule number compared to the huge crowd. I go to the Taste of Chicago 3 days every year and spend hours and hours there, I always have a great time. So come out and enjoy yourself! Dont Let The Big City Scare You

Last year had the PGI convention in town. Made the Chicago show in 2009 look pretty weak as seen in this video. Google 2009 PGI convention and there is a video sampling.

July 3rd in Downtown Chicago after 2p is to be avoided. It's not just thugs; it's rude people of all races, colors, and creeds esp., ages 17-24. Ppl stop, walk, and talk on cells, play w/ipods, or whatever in front of you while your sitting trying to watch the fireworks; they don't do this beforehand. It feels purposeful. Fighting among young males is common.
The 3rd is the absolute worst day to go...unfortunately, it has taken a turn for the worst...the buckingham fountain has turn into a brawl hotspot. Even with mounted police, they just carelessly go at it. I went last year and I will never go back...I rode the train (CTA Red Line) down there and as soon as the fireworks were over, all hell broke loose on the streets of downtown. Hell even before the fireworks started, the warning shots (fireworks) would have me reaching for my holster.
I was there unfort. and will never go back...my friend (whos pregnant) her husband and their 3 year old were there with me....she was shoved to the ground in that swarm of people trampling....We're from the suburbs and are going to stay there! The police had to take the 3 of us behind their police van for protection...Badwith the helicopters lowering down with the search lights and all the figting.Walking back to the metra or El. I thought I was going to die after they screamed gun shots!

There were the angry bee multibreaks that were popular too. It was ironic that the blue siren lights from the Chicago squad cars added a quiet effect to the colorful fireworks in the sky.

Was visiting from England and close to Buckingham fountain when things started turning nasty, it certainly wasn't nice for the thousands of families and visitors at the event. I've been before but it was a first visit for my girlfriend and she got really scared at one point.
I saw children crying and many people leaving before the fireworks even started.

Several people were shot last year. A dozen police officers were also injured last year by bottles and other objects being thrown at them. Thugs are taking over and politicians, and the media, are preventing the police from being able to do their jobs. Chicago and Illinois are going up for grabs because criminals are not punished for their actions

Daphne, I couldn't agree with you more. I was one of the officers that you photographed at the Taste. I was in the group wearing our riot helmets. We did this for our own safety for exactly the reasons you sight. It is a terrible shame that such a beautiful family event has been perverted into the sham it has become.
Excellent advertising for the Taste, Eventually this event will implode because of the persistent ineptness......
