This is prime-era April Wine (hate to say it because I was just getting into all the albums at that time.)
Nature Of The Beast is a wonderfully loose, fun almost punk-y album compared to the more cool, calculated work that followed. There are a number of albums before NOTB that are also great - Harder Faster, First Glance, etc.
So why did they abruptly change?
Goodwyn said they worried about becoming 'rock dinosaurs' - ironic since the late-sixties rock sound now outlives the eighties sound.
People ask why April Wine fissled in the early 80's - I say it was because of success and "money". The asshole record companies began to call their shots.
They lost focus on what made them great;and it had everything to do with all 5 members of the band.
Money ruins everything. Take a good look at the world today. They were at their best - When they did what THEY 'All' wanted to do musically. Rock on Gary Moffet!
they were on a MTV special that they played all their hits live on tv in the mid 80's wish I could find that.
