  • 2 people don't know what fun is.

  • im getting it soon :)

  • can some one show me how to get this for free?

  • The company where I did my internship, has given this book to me. It really is a awesome book!!!

  • That was awesome! I enjoyed that. keep up the great work. check me out to..

  • wow Cool @_@

  • Wow! Nice work, very cool! I don't know where you got the inspiration to do this but I hope it inspire you to do more. Well I guess I do know where you get the inspiration from, Richard Williams.

  • @ThinkTink606432 richard williams made it....

  • I made a cd where iam rapping about things that r not very easy to talk about.Im talking about the situation here in Norway.Have done like300shows in2years, my group won the national youth champs. all over country. We r basically3 hardworking artists.I am trying2make this my break, want u to animate stuff i am talking about.A person who is rapping and the surroundings are changing as i rap.Thx let me know if U on this one,TRUSTme i am gonna grind and let every TV channell in Norway play this ONE

  • @jnlonline

trur ikke du får no respons på det her, fordi det er richard williams og de i studioet hans som har animert det her. folk som har jobba i industrien i årevis :P

  • I LOVE ANIMATION " My Major" YOur the Best Richard Williams :)

  • I want to know how to animate a character like that fox with the blue long sleeve shirt, the double bounce. It´ s a classic.

  • @osmodivs, yes. That's a great animation. I also like the big breasted gal here. The way she moves is really fluent.

  • Sheer magic! Even in this age of CGI, it's hard to beat old-style drawings animation.

  • WOW! I HAVE to buy this!

  • I think I'm going to get myself the box set. It certainly looks worth it, seeing as how I will then get to hear THE MASTER's voice while being shown moving examples. I borrowed the book from a library but it didn't quite cut it for me as I ended up not really understanding it and just leaving it lying around as it was so big and un-handleable.

  • @Beverkake Take your time with it. I'm finding that it's almost better to pick it up now and then and keep it handy for when you get stuck rather than to try and read it cover to cover and go "NOW I CAN ANIMATE!"

  • I just got the book and its taught me LOTS on how to animate!

  • @BlightedArt

Actualy, fundementals such as line of action and construction started developing in animation before comics. Otto Messmer expirimented alot durring the twenties working in animation and applied what he learned to comics. Those fundementals were developed and refined during the thirties and foeties by the various animation companies.

  • Man.. Thats awsome, I draw comics but never got into any animation. I know one thing, it takes a hell of a long time to draw, even comics.

After watching this, i feel like finishing my fourth comic in my saga :)

  • What I would give to be the guy behind the blonde one...

  • Richard sure knows how to animate a woman

  • Ugh, i can appreciate Williams hard work, but i don't think it was worth it in the end. The book is a really confusing read that Richard should have explained more clearly, and he dosen't even teach you about really important stuff like Construction or Line of Action! And his drawings make me feel really uncomfortable-just looking at this animation i can tell that these are stiffly drawn and struggle to move smoothly, even on ones, as if he did that for the sake of challenge.

  • @pokemanmaster03 I can see the importance of mentioning lines of action and construction, but those are very comic book styles which have been adapted into animation. The thing about the Survival Kit that makes it so good is that it can apply to any number of styles. For example it's a lot harder to have a line of action and use traditional construction methods in cardboard cut out stop motion, but anticipation, spacing and timing are applicable.

  • @pokemanmaster03 Seriously? I found the book incredibly accessible even though I've only had rudimentary experience with animation. As for line of action and construction, like BlightedArt said, those aren't core, unchanging principles of animation. The book does teach a handful of tricks, but it's really all about teaching you how to UNDERSTAND animation for yourself so that you can explore the form even farther than Williams has. It's more of a "Zen of Animation" than "How to Make Cartoons!"

  • wowwwwwwwww

  • Saw this on my animation lesson, I loved it so much I had to look it up and see it again! X3

  • I love the music!

  • Brilliant!!

  • lovely!

  • amazing work

  • Were you paying attention to the class, or were you staring at the woman in the purple dress? [/Morpheus]

  • Just had a masterclass in Bristol with Richard Williams - he talked us through how all that was done :D amazing guy, so inspiring and just full of the best stories ^_^

  • So unfair.. How the hell am I supposed to make him visit here in Israel? :(

Well, at least I've owned the DVD(:

  • I'd love to own the DVD's... If they didn't cost over $1000.

  • also - I own the book and its awesome - a must and its totally relevant whether you use pencil, flash, after effect, 3D, stop motion, even for actors!

  • @johnchoobe I Also Own the book but wud like to buy the dvd's some day !

  • I loved the dachshund!

  • is anybody here majoring in computer animation?

  • muito bom. inveja do homem preto quadriculado.

  • How does he do that on ones?

  • Williams is a genius. Even the logo is phenomenal!

  • amazing animation!

  • great!

  • Excellent one.

The gal in red would turn at the blonde and say "Hey, stop pushing me, girl!"

  • WOW ! *0*

I love it! I would sooo like to learn how to make animations...

  • Richard does it again!

  • Such brilliant animation!

  • im buying right now :-)

  • 0:30 - Best entrance in animation history. *lol*

  • hay i love it!

a 16 dvd box set about animation? hmm after a stack of books and online tutorials i would not mind a dvd set

    thanks Bob!

  • What a mint video

  • I actually have the book to this ^^ It's a great source to learn from

  • I saw like three movies from that Animation Director of 'Who framed Roger Rabbit?' Richard Williams. I have that book of Ricard's at home. He's a great artist on my opinion.

  • GOOD!

  • did u notice the guy is wearing a thong!!

  • so good! so so good!

  • didnt anyone notice how close they were walking to eachother..looked 0.0

  • Great!

  • omg! $1000usds!

worth it, but still...couldn't had made it $500?

  • Amazing work as always!

You know, he could be an animator...

  • LOL If Richard Williams plays his cards right, he could be a GOOD animator!

  • This is quiet simple amazing!

  • Insanely good! :-O

    This deserves way more views!!

  • This also took 9 months to produce! Can you believe that? 9 months to create 2 minutes of animation? Ya gotta respect the talent and diligence of professional animators...

  • I just saw this the other day and it completely blew my mind! This is utterly amazing and inspiring.

  • Is now my Jesus.

  • i've got this book...

    richard williams totally rocks!!!

  • What did the guy use to make this? Toon Boom?

  • Does it matter... this guy can draw and keep things precise FBF, that's all that matters. You can use anything to make the frames go from one to the other.

  • It's a mix of different techniques. There's 3D and flash-like vector animation, but it's mostly traditional hand-drawn animation.

Look at the high-def version on the Animator's Survival Kit website, it's amazing.

Richard Williams is truly a worthy heir of the nine old men.

  • Richard Williams animated this with pencil on paper.

It may or may not be colored digitally. Possibly ToonBoom Harmony or more likely a system like Animo. But knowing Richard Williams it may be that what we're looking at here was inked and painted the classical way on cels . However, the original animation was definitely good old pencil on paper.

  • I just bought the book, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far, it's simple and easy to read and yet the information contained within this book is absolutely invaluable, if you're planning on entering the animation industry like myself then I cannot stress how much I recommend this book. The detail Williams goes into is absolutely astounding, it's such an amazing book.

Yeah, knowing Williams, nearly ALL of this will be drawn with pencil and coloured the good old fashioned way. Buy this book !

  • So you might have saw his films, and looked them up. I love Animations!! Those are one of books, I will want to read.

  • Another book you will want to read then is "Animation : The Mechanics of Motion" by Chris Webster.

  • This guy is genius...at 32: to 0:52 I loved that part. {wolf whistle} I wish i could draw cartoon women like that.

  • It's a great book, and I'm really excited to learn they're making a DVD version!

  • So whats the DVD? A how do draw thing?

  • It's more of an animation course.

I want to buy it, but being the 16-year-old I am, and the lack of money I posess, It's hard to reach for $1000.

  • U and me both. At 16 years old its tough to get a $1000. And just a question for anyone who uses toon boom animation....Which one is good...

    Toon Boom Digital Pro

    Toon Boom Studio

    Toon Boom Opus

  • pencil and paper is best.

really, you'll learn faster that way.

otherwise, don't go higher than you can afford, it's like any other purchase. If you wanna be an animator for the rest of your life, get the biggest package you can afford, assuming you'll use it to further yourself professionally.

  • Sweet! I own the book, my college animation course used it! =) i love it

  • What region is the DVD or how do you buy it with canadian moneys?

  • It's region-free, so it can play in all DVD players.

  • Thanks for the region explanation, but I still don't have one for how do you buy the big-ass set with Canadian money.

  • Looks great in color!

  • Wow!
