My Nintendo Wii Disc Reading Problems

I hate the black Wii that I have!

(Bad English -.-)I can help you with the problem that the disk doesn't work in all Wiis, it will never work! Do you know why? Because your friend's Wii for example is from Canada, and your Wii is from the UK and the CD is from Canada, that's why the CD wont work for you.

@TheSpaceArena Both our wii's were from the same exact gaming shop, exact same color, exact same country version and purchased on the exact same week back in June 2008. Both of our wii's are from USA, and all of our discs are from USA aswell. Everything we have wii related is from USA. My new black wii is from USA, and all my discs work on it. (some proof on the response video has been made).

Another thing I forgot to say is Update you wii software as well

Also when wii console doesnt read discs it is because it is overheated and you need to rearrange your wii to be in a non heated area

Oh ok but at least try it and see if it works, I do work for nintendo some of the lasers have been put the other way so when the wii console tries to read the disc it doesnt see the other side, it sees the side that is stamped, this is common because of the PAL and NTSC console versions.

Try that If that doesnt work I will tell you how to fix the disc error problem

@andymadshood Interesting. All my life I have played the wii in the horizontal direction and before the error, I have always been putting in the discs the way it is shown in the video, and it worked for about 2 years.

@andymadshood If you have ever used a wii in the horizontal direction. that is how you put the discs in, with the game cube controller slots coming out of the left, label for disc facing up, and the front of the wii facing you. I don't know how I can get more specific than that. And If you want proof, look at the response video for this video.

Il trade anybody my wii, and all my games WITH a psp 2001 for a ps3. They both work fine. You don't have to have any games with it, just the cords and at least 1 working controller. Il even throw in a gameboy advance sp. If your interested, il tell what games will come with it. It's about 5 or 6 i think. Might be more.

My brother has been having the same problem for several months and his disks are in excellent shape. I got him the Nintendo brand Wii lens cleaner and it worked for a few minutes then went back to disk read error. He would almost send it to Nintendo except for like a $75 fee. Almost cheaper to just buy a new one and sell the broken one. Must be a bad laser or lens IMHO.

Purchasing around $199 is more expensive than the repairing from Nintendo, but it does seem worth it to get a new wii. Eventually I will get a new wii, but I will not sell my old once since there is some valuable data on it. The suckish part is that some of my saved data on my current wii is not transferable to other wiis (Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Brother's Brawl).

For those of you who got a wii with this problem and the 4.3u and you want to hack your wii so you can play games from a HD, you need to open 2 wiis, change the dvd drives, hack your wii using the brawl hack or whatever you want to use, and then switch back the dvd drives, ask a friend if you can do this with his funtional wii and there you have it.

@blahblahfeet I do take care of my discs, but they have been used alot for a period of two years, and I am not the only one that plays on my wii so other people use them too. Honestly I don't know why my wii is messed up right now and I don't even play on it as much as other hardcore wii gamers. My PS1 discs are even more scratched up and they play flawlessly on the PS1. :)

My wii has been able to play all of the discs in their condition before but then one day the laser thing in my wii to read the discs just decided not to work on me anymore, and for some reason all of the discs you see in the video were playable on my friends wii. I wish I could borrow his wii and discs for another recording.

It sux either way. I am so pissed Nintendo made such a crappy inferior system! and they made millions off a system with so many problems and flaws screw them and Microsoft for their crappy systems!!! The PS3 is the only one that was built right and quality wise is worth every dollar.

Well as from reading ur description, obv the really scratched discs wont work, but there is also a problem with the wiis. Some old wii's can not read dual-layered discs, (yes ik you might know this already but mine is also having the same problems and it is an old 2006 wii and i want to know, have you found a solution yet?)

@bamazudi I really should update my discription. My wii is since June 2008. The other day I was testing my discs with my friends wii and they were playable with his wii, while his non-scratched discs are not readable at all. Right now it's my wii's fault and not really the discs at the moment, and I remember the days were my wii could read dual layer discs (by the way, my friends wii is also from June 2008.) I was thinking about sending it to nintendo but I don't have all of the paperwork yet.

The thing is that I have tried nearly all methods of cleaning my cds (properly of course) and my discs were still not readable. I had a friend come over to my house one day with his nearly perfect discs and they were not readable at all, while my scratched up discs were playable with his wii. It's basically my wii's hardware causing this problem. (2 year old wii)

I just bought the Metroid Prime Trilogy and the wii won't read that disc either at all and i think that i am gonna dissect the wii to replace the reader part of it or whatever.

Uhh... I don't know if this will work but my cousin would wipe the disc with alcohol and then put it in the freezer for 1 day and it'll work every time. I've tried it and it never worked for me so I don't know. :S I think it's your Wii though.

Turns out that his wii can read his discs and my discs while my wii cannot read any disc at all. (I think you saw how scratched up my discs were). Personally I do not want a new wii, I just want my wii fixed so that it can read and play games again, and I have 2+ years of data worth on the wii

@Flykart Nintendo told me to go ahead and move all my data to an sd card in case they couldnt fix it so thats what i did. some of my game data couldnt be moved tho so if the problem is serious then ill have to start all over again on certain games :(
