The ball didn't go in from underneath the hoop. the ball hit the net, slowing down the ball, and as the net rapped around the hoop- the ball was caught in the net and followed it into the basket. Making the ball only go in from the top. If the ball was to go underneath the basket, up in the air, and then back down through the hoop- The points would not count. They only count when the ball goes down through the hoop, not up through it and then down again.
