  • Neal schon is one of the most melodic guitarists ever...

  • uno dei chitarristi con il senso melodico più bello che abbia mai sentito....

  • here's a bit of magic for sunday afternoon....superb guitar playing......

  • Neal Schon un grande mas.....

  • The Proof is in His Playing.

  • @koza821

lmfao Curt on 12 you've got the be kidding me?! :D

I love Nirvana but he wasn't great on a guitar lol :D

  • If you're reading this and you don't have Neal's 20disk album Electric World, go order it at once. It's full of such great music, very similar to this, but with many styles blended together. It's definitely one of my favorite albums ever, instrumental or non0instrumental. Top 100? He should be in the top 50 best rock guitarists EVER!

  • Love this tune...

  • Extraordinary!!

  • TEARS DROPS!!! yes!! it does when i listen to this great melody from Neal. i hope you will churn out MORE

  • We mustn't talk about the other guitar players, and compare them with Neal. When I saw him first, I had a strange feeling. He has got something special, he doesn't dress a strange costume or wear make-up, or do something with his hair. He really wants to tell us that he only wants music. Called over by Santana and Eric Clapton is a big thing, and they knew that Neal's got something special and unique. He can play any sort of rock, and he still has a unique style. He is one of the gods of rock...

  • I can only say one word- underrated !!!

  • Neal Schon is, & will always be the Godfather of modern rock ! He is ruthlessly melodic,...He can shred with the best & always out composes the rest !!! Love ya Neal. You gave me the deep love of music that I have today!

  • Satriani, Schon, Lukather & Hendrix: The Mt. Rushmore of guitarists.

  • I was speaking of the "new" Beck.

  • Not as good as Satriani - a bit Santana'ish

  • @jasperoni1000

My favorite guitarist is joe satriani and i can say that Neal schon is also a great guitarist but is under rated and i dont know why.

  • the biginning of journey...was the fear of carlos santana that he was kicked ass by young and new genious named NEAL SCHON who, at that time, was a rythem guitarist in santana...a person who recognized his talent was gregg rolie, at that time keyboard player in santana, and he left santana with neal...and establish the proto-type of journey, named golden lake rythem section...

  • inspired by handryx, neal developed his own style as a jazz fusion rock.n.roll edrip...

  • the reason that i was enthusiastically stuck to audio system was the sound of journey...espacially, neal's guitar sound...

  • the biginning of journey...was the fear of carlos santana that he was kicked ass by young and new genious named NEAL SCHON who, at that time, was a rythem guitarist in santana...who recognized his talent was gregg rolie, at that time keyboard player in santana, and he left santana with neal...and establish the proto-type of journey, named golden lake rythem section...

  • @israel71240 Golden gate rythem section was one of the first names

  • everyone listen to steve perry journey, while every musician listen to pre-perry journey...

  • Neal Schon is my favorite guitarist of all time. There is no other guitarist that combines his technical virtuosity with his mastery of melody. His leads really bring out the emotion and they are so well constructed. There are other guitarists who are faster and perhaps more technically brilliant, but no guitarist is better than Neal Schon.

  • This guy is so talented. I am forever grateful he lent his talents to the great music of Journey, but I believe there isn't anything this guys plays I wouldn't love.

  • Yes! If you stick with what YOU Luv, it will surely always be a success!

We ALL need to remember this........

  • His playing actually improves as the years go by.That is very rare for guitarists.

  • good - never heard of him till a friend sent a link. Listen to Joe Satriani though......

  • @jasperoni1000 yea Joe is my fav but Neal is up there, very melodic genious compositions.....

  • a magical piece of guitar playing

  • Brings back lots of memories of times long gone with friends and loved ones

  • like this so much

  • Playing along with Carlos certainly helped him discover his own great sound!

  • He can play anything. He is one of a kind...

  • Its great to here he is playing with his son Miles. Journey die hards are treated

to Kahoutek and cuts from Pirahnna Blues. Hey Maybe a double bill GRB and

NSB. I wish the Arnedo ensamble continued success its just not a die hards tea

  • Thank You Neal!

  • Neal NEVER got the credit he deserves because of the radio friendliness of Journey after Steve Perry joined the band. I just wonder if any of the Rolling Stone's top 100 guitarists were touring with bands who played Woodstock (Santana) when they were 15 like Neal was. Not only that, but he turned down an offer to join Derek and the Dominoes to join Santana. I'm a fan of VanHalen, and all the other guitar monsters, but Neal will always be in my top 5. FORGET Rolling Stone's top 100!!

  • @SkullydogXXX

If you think NS doesn't get the credit he deserve, listen to

    watch?v=VhRgelkyeyo.

Don't know if you him. You can listen to everything.

On the above link, he not only breaks your heart, he takes to somewherevery far

  • Great guitarist, not my favorite, but I MUST admit that he is awesome, no matter what style he plays, he always sounds like Neal Schon, and THAT is something not many guitar players can say. Two thumbs up!!

  • On one of the youtube videos, I thought I saw Neal play a PRS guitar. Does anyone remember seeing that, and if so, can they tell me what youtube video it was?

  • @MaryLMaxwell Its the video where he is with paul rodgers and slash and they are playing wishing well. Or atleast thats the one i seen him playing it in. Hope this helps

  • @mattmensi Thanks, I just watched it. Yes Neal is Playing the PRS in that one. I never saw this video before and it rocked !! There was another I saw him playing a PRS on too, but can't remember which one. Thanks a lot for telling me about this video. I have to save this one in my favs.

  • mantisman51 Perfect!!!!!

  • There are other guitarists, who are technically just as brilliant, maybe even moreso. But no guitarist plays as melodically magical as Neal Schon. He's my favorite guitar player of all time. His work on Journey's first three albums contain the best lead guitar I've ever heard.

  • Even though Neil effortlessly transposes notes it's still what he doesn't play that sets sets him apart from hundreds of other guitarists.

  • romantic.

  • What makes Neal have a bad personality?

  • Neil as a person...not so much good to say about that issue. But as a player, he is a master. Brilliant technique, phrasing etc.

  • This sure sets the mood, doesn't it? This can carry anyone away. Just a little imagination along with this song does it.

  • VERY VERY UNDERRATED guitar player, I personally think that his choice of notes is a lot tastier than Vai or Paul Gilbert combined

  • Thank you very much for sharing this awesome tune! I couldn't find it in the internet, but what a beautiful and melodic instrumental song by the great Neal.

  • why is the song called bandalero? the right therm for robbers and gunfighters in spanish of 1860s/90s is ''bandolero''.

Is it posible that it also references a man playing in a band as an injoke from Neal?

  • While strollin along pier 39 I came across this head shop with some cds i found Beyond the thunder Neal schon and i have been requesting it ever since. Really great mood setter if you know what i mean yall.

  • Listen to is solo on the early 70s "Look Into the Future" pre-Perry Journey. The title track reveals not just some awesome chops for his age (he was about 20-21 then) but the passion was also like molten silver....not saying he is the best but do not need anyone to take my breath any harder...

  • a while back i listened to this on u-tube..blew me away, i had no idea that schon made this...i ended up getting it and it is a great album...if ya like schon playing only this is it....in the summer i'll fire one up and sit outside and chill...great song-great album

  • @MrJohnnywoowoo

Dude - you need to check out Schon's "I ON U" and "Electric World" I've been stuck on these Schon albums for the last two years...I wish I knew of some other artist that played as well as Schon....Chaquico and Satriani are good but Schon is the best

  • schon may be one of the most underrated

players of all-time. his talents were not truly showcased in the steve perry era of journey, but once he stepped away from journey from time to time he proved that he deserves his place with some of the best of all time

  • One Relaxing Song.....Love Ya Neal!

  • amazing

  • schon is awesome .

  • I have high regard for many players out there but I can say this about Neal Schon ... I had the pleasure of seeing him play live in 2005 and after the concert was over I slipped on something that turned out to be my liquefied brain ... The guy is a tour de force !!! I always knew it but hearing it live just takes it to another level !!! This guy was born to burn frets and for someone his age ... he hasn't lost anything in the way of playing , if anything he's gotten better

  • Jeff Beck was my man. Listened to Schon and Jonathon Cain one night in the 80"s was blown away. Even started to listening to Journey. Schon is hands down the overall best guitarist out there.

  • This is good stuff but it totally sounds like porno music.

  • well he has the pornstar look

  • hahahaha

  • @EMG81JSX my wife got pregnant because of this timeless burn frets of music during our honeymoon in Greece.

  • @TheHabit00

Man true that. I find it hard to choose which guitarist is the best. I love EVH because he just changed tons of stuf on playing guitar and opened new doors. while neal is a classic shredder, very clean and accurate, and melodic like no one else. He even beats EVH in melodic songs. EVH and Neal are tied for first in my book. But my favorite band is journey and my second is VH so I lean more towards Neal. ROCK ON.

  • In the 80s, every guitarist I saw interviewed for a magazine mentioned Neal Schon blowing thier minds.

  • The only guitarist i've ever heard of who praises Neal Schon is John Petrucci. I do hear a bit of Schon in Petrucci, but I always think Petrucci because he's like taken all the greatest guitarists styles and mixed it together and made his own. Anyway getting away from the point Neal's a brilliant guitarist i'm not sure how 'underrated' he is when his band has sold millions upon millions of albums tho enough people have had the chance to fully appreciate him

  • Not true eddie van halen loved him, he said neal schon is the cleanest guitar player out there, when he plays very fast solo's every note is clean and pure, he said that in the early 80's (that has always stuck with me because i agree back then neal schon was a burner)

  • Fair enough. EVH and Petrucci are actually my very favourite guitarists so I guess if you were gonna have two guitarists say u were awesome id want it to be those guys !

  • @JimmyMoorby I personally think the only guitarist who is/was better than Schon is his Mentor, Carlos Santana. There is no mistake when Carlos plays that PRS guitar. You just know...........instantly. Schon is as good as Carlos. Just wish his personality was better. I think it has marred his image, but I sure do respect his ability to make that guitar sing.

  • ottohof-I totally agree with you...but I love all

  • So sad that almost all 70's rock fans are clueless re: Journeys existence prior to the Steve Perry era. I tell people they sounded like Santana deluxe.

I was into the album Next when Infinity came out, and so I cried. They did do the formula thing quite well.

Oh well, Neal had to make cheese for his future ex-wives and kids. doh

  • I'm in awe with Neal's talent and skill in trasferring the better emotions of man from his guitar to the psyche of ordinary mortals like me. it gives me joy, hope and a great smile that actually the world is not that really bad. he justifies the statement that hope is eternal and it's good as shown in "Shawsank. Redemption". Keep it on rocking, Neal!

  • Neal Schon is the greatest guitar player, next to Hendrix. Why? Because he isn't stuck with head banging, thogh he can shred with the best. He isn't just a ballad oriented player, though he can break your heart with the emotions that come from his instrument. He is a perfect combination of style, talent and ability. When Beck or Van Halen can do something outside "their sound", then tell me how good they are.

  • @mantisman51

    rolling stone'

    s list is fucking stupid,

i mean i respect curt cobain hes dead yeah, but he is not a top ten guitar player, steve vai is a million times better, satriani should definitely be on that list. its just nothing but wat media says is best

  • @mantisman51 eddie van halen said in the early 80's that neil schon was the most cleanest guitarist he's ever heard. eddie really appreciated neil

  • @TheHabit00 Yes, I still remember an Eddie Van Halen interview in which he said Neal Schon was one of his favorites. Neal Schon once said he and EVH would sound like the second coming of Yardbirds if they could ever play together. It looks like Neal Schon is appreciated more by the guitarists themselves than by laymen, and it's a sign of his greatness. And another reason why he may be 'underrated' is that in his Journey days he was overshadowed by an ultra powerful vocalist named, Steve Perry.

  • @mantisman51 Beck, has played many styles including rockabuilly.

  • @mantisman51 Listen to Becks Coming Home album that should do it for ya hehe !!!

  • @mantisman51 What about Steve Vai?

He can play any style with fantastic ability

I agree with what you are saying, I just Steve Vai should get a mention :P

  • Have you heard Eddie & Alex Respect the Wind from the Twister soundtrack and Eddie's guitar in Once from Van Halen III. People just trash Eddie when he tries something outside ''his sound'' without even listening the whole thing. VH3 had was mostly unappealing but had some great songs that people completely ignores.

  • really beautiful!!

  • I don't understand why Neal is NOT on the Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitarists. He should be.

  • He should be in the top #10 listing.

  • i don't think rolling stone has ever liked journey

  • Because their list is a joke...or maybe the people who compiled it are???

Love him or hate him...Satriani is not on it either.

I love Neal and have since 1977 but Al DiMeola is at the top of my list!!!

My top 5 in no particular order.... Al DiMeola Steve Morse, Eric Johnson, John Petrucci Joe Satriani How many of these are on their list?

Just look at who musicians listen to...then you have an idea who is really good.

    for what it's worth...

  • @MaryLMaxwell

    those list are bullshit

  • @MaryLMaxwell i see stone magz as a celebrity magz, not music magz

  • @MaryLMaxwell ROLLLING STONES

    is a stupid magazine

    a very stupid one

    the STUPIDEST

they have the most stupid Tops

like David Bowie in top 100 best metal singers of all times

    DADVID BOWIE????????????? METAL?

or top 300 songs of all times

in the top there are so many songs that just had to be there

but no they put beyonce feat.jay-z OMFG

  • @MaryLMaxwell Because they dont know true talent when they here it ,they gave journeys first 3 albums and 5 stars . come on people wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MaryLMaxwell He isnt in there cos Rolling stone magazine is written by shit heads :P

  • aw, thank you deludedperryfan1980 for sharing this music. it reminds me now that I've never been to the Spa for months. Neal is so great musician and a master of his own. Hail his talent!

  • Neal Schon also played guitar for Carlos Santana at the age of 15,Eric Clapton asked Him the same week..but He gave Santana His word as He asked Him first

  • me playing the song with the guitar :)

    v=e89dvy9Sl9A

  • Comment removed

  • I HAD this CD and sold it some years ago and have regretted it ever since.

I was moving and needed the money so sold a bunch of CDs.

I WILL own this again. Absolutely moving and brilliant the whole CD.

Neal you are a master my friend!!!!

  • You can hear in his notes what he learned from Santana..!! Neil, you're a great musician, and the best of all is that you're so humble like Carlos..!!

  • Neal IMO was a better guitar player over Carlos when they were together. Carlos had a lot of holes is his solo when Neal left the band. Carlos made everyone think he did the playing when in fact it was Neal.

  • beutifull tune reminds me of puerto rico and mexico

  • One of the best instrumentals I've ever listened to. Hail to the legend!

  • Great song. Schon is one the world's premier musican.

  • lol at 53 he looks like dr cox from scrubs

  • man i don't know anything about neal schon apart from his name.this is the first track that i've heard of him.absolutely fantastic!!!i will def look up more of his stuff, the guy is great!!!!sorry to come across as an idiot, but only telling the truth.peace everyone!!!

  • you know he was/is the lead guitarist for Journey.

  • no i didn't,but i do now;-)

  • great tone and great melodies - new record is my favorite as well

  • Good God man. This was fabulous and thank you for posting this. I don't think too many musicians can even close to him musically.

  • Totally agree!

  • I love you

    Neal

  • Happy 55th Birthday Neal! (2/27/1954)

    BTSF

  • My fucking hero! The greatest guitar player ever! Long live Neal Schon!

  • I love this CD

Also love Jonathan Cain's solo work

  • The best,Simply the Best!

  • i use this track when i can't sleep...it works awesome....they should sell this in wa mart next to the celtic and spiritual crap that you meditate to

  • Slowhand-

This shows just another side of Neal's incredibly vast style. His work with Journey, before and after Steve Perry, shows another style of Neals as well.

By the way, I have never heard a real musician knock on another musician. They generally have too much respect for each other because they know how hard it is to make a living at what they love. So in other words, real musicians respect their counterparts.

  • Exvept Malmsteen who has the guts to call Jimi Hendrix's music "noise"

  • Ok I don't want to be flamed for flakey but has anyone noticed that a lot of the real stylists in 6 string are Pisces like Neal? Gilmour, Trower, Iommi, Scholze...

  • Rats¡¡¡¡ I knew there was something missing, now I know why I am a dumbkopf on the guitar, I am a libran, no hope for the likes of me, a real pity.

  • Neal Schon has an amazing tone

  • that was the biz

    thans

  • Neal Schon is the king baby! Nobody plays the blues like him. No one!!! Long live the king...

  • love this music..makes me sad evertime i hear it but i just love it

  • great music.... soothes the senses...could anybody upload his chistmas music

  • Damn monkey jumpin ,djlovin gorrila ass

  • I wish I new the tab for this song, damn, I love this album, Beyond the Thunder, killer music.

  • That was beautiful.

  • what can I say ...Schon is The Man!! Geat Posting...

  • wow this sounds like Dave Koz if he played as well on the axe :) Neil Schon rocks, used to see Journey at 'Day on the Green' concerts Oakl. coliseum back in the days (early 80s). They were good during S.P. 80s/early 90s era, but esp. like their music and style in mid-70s (long guitar solos, classic rock sound). Thank you Neil, Rock on bro'

  • so beautifull, the whole album is great

  • This song and Call of the Wild are my favorites on Beyond the Thunder. The entire CD is excellent.

  • Pick this up on itunes along with a song called Mr Cool. Can't add anymore than what's been said. Play it on my ipod.

  • I ditto everyone else's positive comments. This is a beautiful piece of music by Neal Schon.

  • Man whats gonna happen when all these fantastic players move on. Why does nobody current treat their playing with such artistic flair like Schon? Is the great guitar player era over? I hope not, but where is the new crop?

  • hey, it's not so bad; neal still plays with journey.

  • Just like everything else. The world is a bunch of idiots and the whole thing is going to pot.

  • BAD AZZ SONG! THANX T2D!

  • Neal Schon is incredibly talented...he is a master with the guitar...his creativity and heart speaks through his music. They don't "make them like this anymore" so you better appreciate him while you can. He is amazing!

  • Oh this is so pretty. I'm sure this album is very good. You come to Utube and discover all this music and want to buy it all. This is lovely. Neal is so very talented.

  • neal is the best

  • Neal Schon is the best of so many worlds. He's able to play catchy melodic lines with an incredible amount of expression and emotion, but he's also very technically competent. He has very few week spots in his playing. Everyone should aspire to play like him. I sure do :P

  • Yes, great tune! But the whole cd is perfect!

  • Neal kicks ass, loooove this song!!!! One of the best!!!

  • If you didn't hear the whole album, check it out. I'm sure you'll like it.

  • Yeah, I used to have this album before it broke, but today I actually found a place were I could order it again :) great day!!

And YES I love the album :D he has a sound that is rare, don't know what else to say. Thanks for posting btw :D made my day ;)

  • curious, how did it break ?

  • extremely scratched :( but it's ok, bought a new copy!!!

  • No one handles a guitar like neil schon, he's the best, no one even comes close!!!! can't wait for the new journey album!

  • Wonderful, almost like Neals spell with Carlos Santana at the seventees. I wanna her them togheter again

  • he rocks on the guitar i think he so awsome .

  • I have loved this group since a friend of mine introduced me to them in 1982. I saw them play in Edinburgh, Scotland last year and I just think they are amazing. I will love their music and that guitar till the day i die.

  • Neal, real fans would drive anywhere to see you and Journey, whomever the lead singer is. You are the driving force behind Journey. Real Journey fans would love to see you in an acoustic show. Perhaps Yoshis in Oakland as an example ? Remember when you came onstage with Gregg Rolie Band? Please think about doing smaller, acoustic shows in the non-touring season for us real fans !!!

  • A dream!

    Un sogno!

  • NEIL IS A GUITAR HERO !!!

  • YEAH!!!

  • Neil Schon Is one of the most underrated guitarist ever. His guitar arrangements are 100% perfect. Like, when you listen to a song, and you have this perfect solo going on in your head, thats what he writes. He sings with the guitar. ahhhh, I love his guitar playing.

  • You are so right! It's way past time to have his talent recognized. I've loved his skill since the 70's with Journey, through all its incarnations. Even now, all these years later, his guitar still sounds as energized and magnificent as the first time I ever heard him. It was Neal that I air-guitared to in my teens, and even still today, I find my fingers unconciously strumming away with him. Keep playing Neal! You bring us all joy!

  • I saw Journey the very first night Steve Perry played with them at The OLD WALDORF in San Francisco..At first I thought he was a girl..They had already established themselves without him..I liked Greg Rolle's vocals better anyways..Also that night I saw a 19 year old Sheila E,destroying some timbales with Pete Escovedo

  • I see Gregg Rolie every chance I get. What a nice person! Have taken tons of pictures with him. His band has got to be the best Santana band there is. Where else can you hear Black Magic Woman live ??

  • sheeeeeit,

I saw journey right after the breakup with santana. they played at the Rio Theater in Santa Cruz! It was incredible! As you know, they languished until Steve Perry, and then they all took singing lessons. Ah, the good old days, eh?

  • I also the first night with Steve Augeri at the Warfield. When Neal could not get anyone or any place to book them without the old Steve. They opened, of course, with Separate Ways. Crowd loved the new Steve, standing ovation on the open.

  • I first saw Journey when they opened for ELP at the Long Beach Arena,( around '77?) Before Steve Perry. Steve is definitely gifted, but the real music came when Jon Cain joined. Met Jon and the rest of the band at Konocti Harbor a few years ago, waiting for the Moody Blues show.

  • You want to know what's bullshit? I will tell you. You cant get this song on Itunes, but the rest of the songs on this album are availible. So corrupt!!

  • I myself have given up on Itunes, or any music download for that matter. I just buy the CD on Ebay and make MP3's for my PC or car stereo. Bought this CD for $6 on Ebay. Look on Higher Octave website, or Ebay.

  • Thanks journeyfanforu

  • Also, Eddie Kramer stated that Neal dubbed over one of his own solos to improve it, but Kramer thought that the 1st take was among Neal's best ever-- wish we could hear that one! Having listened to Santana for 20+ yrs and seen live clips from that era, it's very clear who's playing what and when and they both blow like mothers. Neal has said that he pushed Carlos to be more fiery and Carlos taught him to be more melodic and soulful. Lucky us!

  • I saw Neal in Abraxas Pool when they played at Gilligans. Anyone else see Abraxas Pool live ? I think it was Eddie Money that opened for them. Rock 104.1 special concert. Saw Soul Sirkus in SF bay area also. Would love to see Neal again, someday, in a small venue like Gilligans. Have never seen him play his own music , live anyway.

  • Thanks for the reply. I don't know about Mike's comments, other than the fact that he and Carlos didn't get along toward the end of the first band. I do know that on Santana III, Neal and Carlos recorded endless takes to outdo each other (and themselves) in the solos, but both are featured on all but two tracks.

  • Beyond the Thunder was amazing album. Beautiful guitar music! VERY moving.

  • No disrespect to Neal-- he's fantastic-- but he did not play "many" of the solos on Santana's Greatest Hits. Neal was featured only on Santana III and Caravanserai; he does play the solo on Everybody's Everything and a short fill on ECOW, but the other tracks are Carlos and Neal together. Both are blazing and beautifully complementary. Their respective solos are clearly discernible, and most of the guitar on the Hits album is Carlos.

  • My statement(s) were taken from Michael Carabello himself. He has mentioned that "fact" about Neals' lead many times. Michael, Adrian and Chepito came onstage with Journey at Konocti, several years ago, and played several old Santana songs.

  • Michael stated onstage, that most people did not know that Neals' lead was inserted over Carlos' in the studio, on many of those tracks where he was already a member of the band. My comments were in rebuttal to Plunker49, about Neal being a "2 bit guitarist".
