  • LOL!!! Kudos to Royce for letting go of the choke the second his student was out, even though he never tapped or stopped fighting. I trained with Royce many years ago when he was still at the torrance academy. Neat guy.

  • @myslimakastreetfight Go away, Chael.

  • Would the student just not tap or would Royce just not let go?

  • @GrumpySpanish lol learn to tap out man

  • Id like to fight a gracie one day

  • 10 ppl got tapped out by Royce!

  • royce gracie, hmm i want to battle a gracie, hopfully at no gi worlds absolute i will.

  • @carlsongracieteam If you've never heard the name "alligator choke," then you need to expand your horizons a little bit. Arm triangle with a north-south roll. Also called anaconda choke. We don't use that terminology at my school either, but I know what it is.

  • At least he got the takedown.

  • @TheChoada Nah, Royce just casually fell into guard on purpose. lol. He does that. He always plans his next move before he lets opponents go for the takedown, and that's why the other guy's unconscious after that. lol. Royce could have twisted out and sprawled the lock, but chose not to. Royce will always fight the best on his back, not standing or on top.

  • @seclusively He has got the shit beaten out of him for setteling on guard instead of working for a more dominant position. He has always been too passive for mma. His place is sport BJJ and teaching. BTW I know him and received my blue belt from him (im a purple now). Never settle for guard when you can have mount or side mount. Position, position, position! And dont give me this little guy big guy BS. 180 pounds isnt little, its average. I have seen some little dudes dominate larger opponents.

  • @TheChoada Yeah, he's had a few poundings, but he's rarely lost in the MMA game, even during those poundings. He has much greater records than most and more stamina than most. He's only had two losses, and one was because his femur bone got cracked after going 90 minutes straight with Sakuraba. Hughes is his only legitimate loss. I actually just hung out with Royce this weekend and trained with him myself. Great guy. Oh, and 180 pounds is little when you're outweighed 320 pounds(Akebono). lol.

  • Ditto

  • it would be an honor to be choked by royce. LOL

  • @GrumpySpanish

I would love to be able to say Royce out me to sleep!

  • that was a *takes off sunglasses* snooze

  • all you guys say tap out, but those cross collar chokes are blood chokes, you really don't realize that your being choked, it kind of bites on your neck and then your out. very sneaky and Royce's grip is very very strong. the guy probably didn't even realize he was in much danger, he was going for the pass and zzzzz. you can't say anything unless you've got the mat time and experience.

  • @carlsongracieteam In all my years of Judo I have never not known I was being choked.

  • @daridp well you know, but their is a difference between a choke you can resist, and a choke that is type. with blood chokes, darces, gi chokes, etc, it is really hard to tell how deep the choke really is, I have gone out before, when I thought the choke wasn't very deep. I'm just saying don't criticize someone. it isn't a pressure choke like a guillotine, ezekiel, rear naked choke etc. it's cutting off the blood to the brain.

  • @carlsongracieteam I know the difference between blood and air chokes I am a Judo Brown Belt under USJA. Personally I have always felt the choke and have known or felt that I was slipping away and I need to tap. I have rolled with a few BJJ black belts the latest one was by Pat Mcdonald who was awarded his black belt by Royce in the past year. He slipped in a rear naked from a sweet little transition from half guard and I tapped.

  • @daridp cool man, I'm glad you fell every choke, So your telling me, you can feel a loop choke with ease? a sneaky margarita, choke you know when it's tight right away? your telling me, that theirs you've never had a blood choke put on so fast, that you didn't realize how deep it was? if you have not experienced this type of choke then you have not spent much time on the mat.

  • @carlsongracieteam I feel it everytime and I know when to tap. In JuJitsu competitions like NAGA I hold still and breathe the best I can (rolling shoulders forward and breathing slowly). However with every Darce/Alligator/guillotine etc. I feel it everytime.

  • @daridp lol naga is a grappling tournament any style of grappling can compete. bjj tourneys are approved by the ibjjf or cbjjf, and what is an alligator? I'm 100 percent positive that is not a postion, submission, or even relevant to bjj, the closest thing I can think of is a gator roll, when you lock up a anaconda choke.

  • @carlsongracieteam Where I work out we call the anaconda with a gator roll an alligator choke. The names of these techniques change constantly depending on which school you go too due to different languages and slang. I have heard a Peruvian Necktie called a Russian or Japanese Necktie etc.An Omoplata in judo is called a sankaku-garami there are other examples and I am sure you understand.

  • @carlsongracieteam

You speak some good truth right here man. I've been training for eleven years and have been put out several times on some nice chokes. A lot of guys think all gi chokes are violent and involve twisting, pinching, and overall brute force. The BEST gi chokes are so slick you don't even realize they are on until the world goes black and you're dreaming.

  • To me that seems kind of disrespectful. He should tap. If one of my guys didn't tap and he got knocked out I'd be pissed at him.

  • @SuperSneakySteve Its not disrespectful. Its your will power to continue and not give up.

  • this shet happens.....:D

  • haha this was funny

  • LOLOLOLOL

  • There's always a way to escape - tap out!

  • This video was taken at the Gracie Miami school; that is Pedro Valente, the head instructor, standing in the back. I had the honor of training there for a few months after I left the Army, and I can tell you 100% that the Jiu-Jitus they teach there is NOT sport jiu-jitsu, and is not geared as much for the ring or cage as it is for the street. They teach dirty elbows and other real-life street stuff...excellent school.

  • lol that's hilarious! i would love to get into a BJJ class by a gracie or gracie black belt. i train in MMA, muay thai by Raul LLopis and i do no gi grappling. i'm pretty good but doing BJJ would really make me a better fighter. so it's either mixed martial arts or Jiu jitsu :/ i dont have the money for both

  • @gussk8e HAHA ANOTHER N E R D CALLIN HIMSELF A GOOD FIGHTER HIDING HIS FACE INSIDE INTERNET`S ANONYMITY.... Fans are Fans, Fighters are Fighters and don't waste their time posting lies and try to look good.... EMBARRASING...

  • @nahuelfantino And I am guessing you are one of those fighters that are fighters right? But saying your credentials would then make you a liar and a nerd correct?

  • @HKArmy924 I just watch videos and learn new stuff, and sometimes i get mad at some comments, im sorry. Dont get that angry buddies.. My fault

  • @nahuelfantino and who the fuck are you to say i dnt train? i am a fan of the sport and i love it. i train aswell 5 times a week. embarrassing? get the fuck out of here you piece of shit.

  • @gussk8e Oh, i do know the dude, im sorry about before. I just got angry about your comment, everyones free to tell whatever they want. But dont get too angry buddy, no one is insulting you.

oh, i forgot..... do you know the name Freddy Sukata? Bet you do

  • @nahuelfantino do you even know who raul llopis is? bet you don't ignorant fuck.

  • @gussk8e gracie jiu jitsu it the way to go bro! I'm under Royce and he is the coolest guy i've ever met. He was just in my town for 4 days and we hungout and trained everyday all day lol. Hope this helps, good luckbro.

  • @sk8yodog53 that's cool; i've always wanted to meet a gracie

  • @Coads26 Apreciate it. I actually think we'd probably agree more than it seems like given the time to hash it out. The best to you too.

  • @Coads26 You are OF COURSE correct that teachers and training are major factors in shaping a martial artist's outcomes but first the principles of practicality and function MUST be present. If what you're doing is based on flawed principles then all the training in the world won't help. UFC 1 demonstrated this when you were about 13 and I had already been teaching professionally for about 6 years of my life. ANY study, without foundational principles based in reality, is a waste of time.

  • @Coads26 I started studying when I was 7 and I'll be 49 next montth. I've made all or part of my living teaching martial arts for the past 22 years. I have enough experience to know that there were times in my life when I was on the wrong track as far as what worked and what didn't. Assumptions like "people are intelligent to realize the scientific principals involved in applying the art at hand" are the kind of assumptions that make a very poor teacher.

  • @Coads26 I hear this comment alot and without mentioning any particular art, the comment is nonsense. Any art that is not based on scientific principles and the scientific method is not going to be as practical and effective as an art that is, period. So, the idea that they are all equal is just completely without merit.

  • Some kind of chokes doesn't hurt that much and you think until suddenly...

    ...wait, where was I?

  • The best chokes shouldn't hurt at all, just cut off your blood; the next thing you know, you're waking up

  • if you can't feel your being choked, then you have lost too many brain cells, not knowing your unconscious and waking up is one thing, but if you don't realise when a choke goes on and you can't feel it, there is something seriously wrong with you

  • Sounds like you have a rod up your ass and looking for someone to disagree with. If you would have actually listened to what I said, I said good chokes don't hurt. I never said you couldn't feel them. Of course you can feel someone putting pressure on your carotids. I'm talking about the difference between pressure on your blood vessels, which is not pain, and a neck crank from someone tightening a choke when it's not deep enough to successfully cut off the blood.

  • @joaoantoniodebarros yea. i forgot what its called. a counter towards a guillotine where you put your shoulder right on his throat while you pass your arms under him and squeeze. the guy trying to submit you doesnt feel shit and then 10 seconds later he realizes he fell asleep lmfao

  • wow i never give royce enough credit.

  • lol @ the dude in blue... *wakes up* 'hey, what are you waiting for? *continues*

  • bjj is awesome. people who have to insult something that they do not know, fear the thing itself.

  • -6 and counting. We don't need to hear about your fantasy bud.

  • @dirtyminded604 so your spermcount is -6 or your dad is pounding your asshole?

  • Brutal laughable attempt at a dis. try again, i'll give you a few tries...

  • we can tell you lost a few brain cells, lol its still a honor "being being" choked by some one of that stature.

  • I know... those krav maga instructors will most likely turn into pretzels not understanding what to do when it comes to the ground.

  • I concur.

  • Oh boy here we go again. Is this an Emil Boztepe revisited exempt from Palestine? Welcome to 1992.

  • yeah dont ever try to fight a suicide bomber dude

  • Hey nobody told me BJJ was only about pulling guard....

And apparently pavement doesn't help you if you're the guy who LANDS the throw right?

Tell me something else I don't know (sarcasm)

  • You are right to a certain degree...I agree, if you were to choose a martial art to take, it should be krave maga. You are correct there. Unfortunatly the BJJ we see today is more of a "sport" I think. It has lost a bit of its effectiveness do to the modern world. I.E. UFC and that sort of thing. But the old school BJJ was very effective I think. But, you are pretty much right on.

  • Don't know what you're talking about, i train under Gracie Barra and many of our drills are specifically designed for street defense. Bjj has not lost it's "effectiveness do to the modern world" in fact it has gained. There are many different styles of BJJ evolving that we're not around years ago. New moves introduced, rubber guard etc...

  • I respectfully disagrre. I took BJJ years back and while it WAS effective I stopped training in. The style didnt fit my personality or fighting style. I swiched to Krave Maga and it works for me. I BJJ, at least when I trained in it, theres seemed to be too much " you grab me here and I do this and twist this." I was done with that.

  • "The style didn't fit my personality or fighting style" That is all subjective. It didn't fit your style, doesn't mean it is not an effective martial art. Krav Maga just happens to suit you better. However BJJ has definitely not lost it's effectiveness due to the modern world.

  • FINE DUDE!! Jeez I get it...You love BJJ. Im not saying you are wrong for training in it. Im just sayin it didnt work for me.

  • @dirtyminded.. totally agree. its changed my life per sport and mental preperation for other avenues in life.. but bjj is not for everyone..

  • yeah those jews will rob you to death

  • Comment removed

  • i've tried both. my vote is bjj.

  • that's one of the funniest damn things i've seen.. ha ha lol

  • how many dergree's is royce now??

  • 6th black belt

  • Hahahaha thats really funny.

He just slowly layed down haha

  • yeah he used the collar choke, very common submission, and he used the triangle just to keep him from backing out of it

  • rickson would kill royce......yeah i know its sound stupid

  • coming from experience, for the person who passes out, you wake up fighting with no feeling of elasped time. its the strangest thing. causes brain damage too

  • qwa qwa qwa ,, everybodies chuckling at im

  • qwa qwa? its hah hah

  • is tht even a submission?

    wtf happened?

  • So it was the triangle leg choke? Or did he do a collar choke?

  • collar choke

  • the triangle-like position provided the leverage for the collar choke to sink in.

  • riiiight.... pankrato and vash1202 are correct, thats a collar choke, pretty standard... mma guy.

  • yea ur right i didnt catch him grabbing the back of the collar...good call

  • What are you talking about? That was a cross collar choke, he used his legs as leverage. there was no triangle choke. (BJJ student)<<<<

  • lol "what are you talking about, i was fighting the whole time"

  • On some techniques I'm like "this does'nt hurt" than i start seeing the world fuzzy like a broken tv, and im like uh oh i should tap

  • LOLL

  • nah, he faked taking the nap to pass the guys gaurd.

  • Lmao!! he took a nap then woke up and kept going like nothing happen..LOL!!

  • you gotta tap in those situations lol

  • lol..thats funny shit....wish i get royce to give me a nap

  • Nice

  • Royce is the shit.

  • hahahahhahahahah

  • My instructor is very, very knowledgeable. He is a Relson gracie black belt. Relson teaches very advanced techniques, and so does my instructor. But sometimes, the white belts get lost, even some blues get lost in the very adavnced moves. they need a foundation, a strong base of fundamentals. I don't think you've ever trained under a Gracie, he might go over your head with the advanced techniques.

  • AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH, I love it!. I got my Blue belt from Royce last november. he's a great guy, as you can tell from the video. Class act.

  • Gratz man! Must feel good having this legend handing it to you ;)

  • isnt blue the second belt, how long did it take?

  • Great video of a great LEGEND!!!

  • Royce is a great guy as a practitioner and as a person.

  • maybe you only "thought" you escaped...hehehehe

  • HOLY CRAP THATS WHERE I TRAIN

  • That is really cool.

  • Very funny video. It's nice to see bit of Royce's sense of humor.

  • I love the giggly laughter he makes. You can tell he is still having fun with Jujitsu in a good healthy way.

  • Thats a sweet move. So subtle yet effective!

  • its called nami juji

  • lol...ahhh. I've seen stars a couple of time during my open mat time. Lucky guy get to learn and role from a legend...SWEET!!

  • was that the carotid choke?

  • The first thing I notice whenever I watch Gracie fight is that his feet are freakin' ENOURMOUS! Awesome video, thanks!

  • You know what they say, big feet big meat. ha ha

  • That was my brother Randall Ebarb. He didnt even know he passed out!

  • Way to go Royce! lol thanks for sharing the video! I met Royce in '94, really nice guy!
