  • Cisco Houston's interpretation is probably the closest to how Joe Hill sang it. See the YouTube version "Joe Hill's 'THE PREACHER AND THE SLAVE' played by Harry K McClintock" and hear the guy who got the song directly from Joe Hill in 1910 sing it. Folk music is a living, changing thing. If someone prefers another interpretation that's because Mischief Brew or whatever suits a new generation's or an individual's current sensibility.

  • I suggest you make this a video response to another version of this song. Perhaps Pete Seger's version would get it the most exposure.

Nicely done. At least it's loud enough to hear, and it's better sung by Cisco Houston than the others I've found.

    Thanks!

The 'Mischief Brew' version is the best I've heard - reallycaptures the spirit of the song & author. A lot of folks sing this song way too sweet & soft.
