We have also been cooling off the past few years hence why he has to say decade not year. Ice core studies have showed both that CO2 levels have been higher in history and have gone up faster than they are today. The samples also show that temperatures have been higher in history so what we are seeing today is completely normal.

The Journal he's referring to is Climate Research. The paper was by willy sun and sallie baliunas. The paper was a meta analysis of papers from the last number of years. It was riddled with errors that any peer reviewer would have picked up on. As a result scientists believed the paper had been published without any peer review. 7 editors of the paper later resigned. The editor is know global warming skeptic. Nothing wrong with that, but he broke the golden rule of peer review system.

Reported history only goes back to the late 1800's, and since then, we have been coming out of one of the coldest periods in the last few thousand years. In the "Little Ice Age" just 2 to 4 centuries ago, glaciers encroached on villages. Since then, we have been warming gradually, so it is no wonder that the most recent decade has been the warmest on record, when the record only goes back 130 years or so. It doesn't prove that humans are causing it or that we have the power to change it.

if 2009 was "second warmest" and 2005 the warmest year (which it wasnt according to the satellite data) there is the cooling right there (at record co2 levels). Not that you need any cooling to disprove AGW, since 15 yrs of record high co2 emissions (and atmospheric co2 levels) failed to increase the average temp during that period by as much as 0.1 C.

Global drying can not be discussed as a non-warming cause of terrestrial ice melts unless you propose a mechanism for such a change that has not occurred in millenia, and the most likely candidate to me would be global warming.
There are many other types of evidence also which suggest warming that has not been seen in 5000-55000 years, fairly conclusive also. Mummified paleobiologic material that has not been through any freeze thaw cycles (except its initial entombment) is being washed from melting glaciers worldwide. Such disproves in my mind the notion of a Medieval Warming Period for example, or at least no level of warming greater than what is seen today in many millennia.

Actually, there is. >97% of all climate scientists doing active research on the climate agree that we face an anthropogenic global warming. ~92 % of ALL climate scientists say the same, and it's supported by ~82% of all scientists in general. The quantity and quality of peer-reviewed published papers is even more obvious. The consensus is not a surprise at all, regarding the overwhelming evidence that point to AGW.

He is right this was the hottest decade in recorded history. We started recording in the 1950's at the end of a mini ice age. We have also been cooling off the past few years hence why he has to say decade not year. Ice core studies have showed both that CO2 levels have been higher in history and have gone up faster than they are today. The samples also show that temperatures have been higher in history so what we are seeing today is completely normal.

The Journal he's referring to is Climate Research. The paper was by willy sun and sallie baliunas. The paper was a meta analysis of papers from the last number of years. It was riddled with errors that any peer reviewer would have picked up on. As a result scientists believed the paper had been published without any peer review. 7 editors of the paper later resigned. The editor is know global warming skeptic. Nothing wrong with that, but he broke the golden rule of peer review system.

Reported history only goes back to the late 1800's, and since then, we have been coming out of one of the coldest periods in the last few thousand years. In the "Little Ice Age" just 2 to 4 centuries ago, glaciers encroached on villages. Since then, we have been warming gradually, so it is no wonder that the most recent decade has been the warmest on record, when the record only goes back 130 years or so. It doesn't prove that humans are causing it or that we have the power to change it.

Even after spending billions of our tax dollars since 1988 trying to prove it, there is still no proof, just a scheme to make us all pay more for our CO2 output. In fact, satellite and balloon data shows no warming in the troposphere, when the models said there would be, invalidating their whole theory.

I have to say (although I hope previous comments already said it), Cenk is doing a poor job of defending climate science. He got the divergence backwards. Thermometers showed warming. Tree rings failed to show growth as expected with warming. He makes it sound like scientists were secretly conspiring against the journal Climate Science, when in fact they publicly resigned in protest. I wish scientists received more attention than lawyers like Cenk when discussing these important matters.

Actually, there was a LOT of debate about evolution, whether it was Darwin who was right or Lamarck who was right, and much of the scientific community was strongly opposed. It was only once Darwin was proven to be right time after time, by people from many different fields, from physiology to genetics to paleontology to paleobotany, that they finally concluded that Darwin, while not having the details, was basically right.

The entire atmosphere makes Earth between 18-20 degrees C warmer than if it wasnt here.
CO2 is only 300 parts per billion of our atmosphere. Even if we could mess with 1 part in 3000 or 1 part in 300 do you think us humans can make a difference to that?
And besides that you have to look at the actions of government for instance, the EU has given Corus steelworks £600million to leave the highly regulated safe UK to go to India.

The divergence of proxy data from instrumental data questions the reliability of temp. models before instrumental date existed (1850)...which is why they did the trick to smooth out the divergence.

Your reading surface temps. not tropospheric temperatures. They have cooled down........... this is important because the GREENHOUSE EFFECT ( CO2 ) happens in the Tropo. Surface temps.are contaminated with UHI. but not the Troposphere.

so the global warming started before any significant man made co2 emissions.
if 2009 was "second warmest" and 2005 the warmest year (which it wasnt according to the satellite data) there is the cooling right there (at record co2 levels). Not that you need any cooling to disprove AGW, since 15 yrs of record high co2 emissions (and atmospheric co2 levels) failed to increase the average temp during that period by as much as 0.1 C.

Not really sure what your first sentence is addressing. Global warming and cooling have occurred in the past but current warming is being caused by man.
To you other point or non-point, it is extremely difficult to establish a statistically significant trend over a time interval as short as 15 years.

Over the past few hundred years, there has been a steady increase in the numbers of sunspots, a trend that has accelerated in the past century, just at the time when the Earth has been getting warmer.

Google NASA + Total Solar Irradiance you'll find a plot of the solar output measurements on the NASA ftp server..(under the 'composite' section)
Surely that series should be rising if the sun's out put had increased in the last ~30 years (which has seen the most T increases)?

Been researching a bit on the subject. The main point of discussion among news sources seems to be the 1940's anomaly, which was where the distortion was made. If you read the full emails, you realize that the scientists were trying to explain or edit what happened in the 1940's in order to explain the anomaly. It's not unusual for any statistic to do something to the outlier.
Statistics folks.

You are DEAD wrong. Hiding the decline is what it means. It means that their models for calculating long term climate change are wrong. If their models can't track current ACTUAL temperature trends why would anyone think it can calculate what temperatures were hundreds of years ago.

Global drying can not be discussed as a non-warming cause of terrestrial ice melts unless you propose a mechanism for such a change that has not occurred in millenia, and the most likely candidate to me would be global warming.

There are many other types of evidence also which suggest warming that has not been seen in 5000-55000 years, fairly conclusive also. Mummified paleobiologic material that has not been through any freeze thaw cycles (except its initial entombment) is being washed from melting glaciers worldwide. Such disproves in my mind the notion of a Medieval Warming Period for example, or at least no level of warming greater than what is seen today in many millennia.
