Lets not be blind people, it wasn't just the Soviets that defeated Hitler, it was the Allies, it wasn't just Russia. Had it be one on one, USSR vs Nazi Germany no doubt Hitler would have won, he was close to taking over Moscow until he declare war on the United States and the allies came to picture. Lets be clear that it took more than 3 countries coming together to defeat Hitler and the Nazis.

He chose to attack a country with harsh winters and leadership that would kill their own soldiers rather than retreat, and in the end opened up a two-front war.

I'm sorry Gonzo, but as a professor of military history who specializes in WWII, I can tell you that the Soviets would still have won the war provided they were still getting arms from the Allies. The allied bombing campaigns and western invasion were not needed to win the war.

Russia had the manpower, the resources, and most importantly the will to defeat Germany after the brutality inflicted on them. Hitler`s armies were already in full retreat in front of Moscow before Germany even declared war on the US. The great military victories of Stalingrad and Kursk occurred a year before the Dday invasion.

All I know for certain is the U.S waited and waited, then when timing was right they went in and took out Germanys oil reserves then turned around and sold their own to them.

what does better mean. Be more specific otherwise your arguments is flawed. Hitlers ideas may have inspired the nation but his military decisions were dreadful. I think the thing that cheats the war is the fact that enigma was broken. If that wasn't done, the war would have been fairer. major battles such as kursk were decided by such things not just soviet strength. But at the end of the day it does matter how extensive enigma was, the Germans acquired it from the poles who then aided britain.

actually the German army scored some significant victories against the Russians at first and had the potential to knock out the soviets but when Hitler diverted armor for the Kiev encirclement and thusly delay the assault on Moscow, thats where I believe it fell apart
