Steve Jobs you changed the world for the better. Yore innovation and Inspiration has affected us all. You were and still are one of my heros. and I thank you for being apart of this place we call earth.
The greatest thing about these 80s corporate anthems floating around on YT is the high production values and the amount of effort put into them. Just like Wendy's, the 80s Apple did take their corporate song seriously.
This is what is known as "Industrial Music." Not the kind with clanging metal and spooky vocals, but music produced specifically for a company.
This particular video was created to show to Apple sales people, to reassure them that although Macintosh was a huge deal, Apple was going to keep the Apple II product line going. (They did finally stop selling Apple II around eight years later.)
This song is not the "worst" example by any stretch of the imagination. Search "MS-DOS 5 RAP"
Man, where are you finding these videos? I haven't seen this in decades! I recorded the music and vocals at my studio in Burbank, CA. Jill Colucci was the vocalist on the session. Keep 'em coming!
(PS: We also did the 1984 Mac introduction video.)
@MediaPDX Hi Steve - I have a family extensive archive from my days as an Authorized Apple Dealer from 1978 to 1989. I sent you a YouTube email, with my regular email address for you to use in your reply. I want to schedule you on my talk show to chat about these recording sessions. I also have an Email to Lorraine as well. TTY soon - Alfred.
Don't know what you wanted to proof. But S-100 was never ever a computer, it was only a bus system. I guess you wanted to refer to mits 8800 or Altair 8080. Those were not PCs in our current understanding! Or do you think 400 Byte RAM, Keyboard missing, no screen ( oh ok there were like 21 LEDs). And at the beginning no operating system! ( Bill Gates first business was to code one together with Paul Allan)
So Apple 1 was definitely the first Microcomputer which had all the parts a PC had
@Bildungsrebell CP/M was used on S-100 machines. While Gates and Allen had ported BASIC to the Altair, operating system wise people were running CP/M by Gary Kildall and his company Digital Research (not to be confused with Digital Equipment Corporation). Microsoft bought a CP/M clone to make PC-DOS after IBM had a hard time licensing CP/M from DR.
S-100/8080 wasn't as simple as ISA/8086, but it was a standard and the machines were all running a common OS before the IBM PC and Apple I.
@Aqwert76 yeah...poor xerox didn't realize how cool their technology was until apple popularized it. At least apple was rightfully taking their technology because xerox didn't want it.
@thatapplegeek Not Windows PC. IBM PC which set the standards of using PC-DOS (which became MS-DOS, then Windows) x86, and BIOS.
When you mean "personal computer" as a generic term, that's still a little sketchy. The Apple I was a hobbyist kit and not a real, ready-out-of-the-box computer, like most were at the time. There was an open standard, the S-100 bus/Intel 8080 running CP/M that many people had as personal computers 3 years before the Apple I came out.
@sundhaug92 MS-DOS was released so Microsoft could license the same OS to clone manufacturers. After a while, PC-DOS just became a rebranded version of MS-DOS with virtually no differences between the two.
Apple II is still the best sold computer in exactly same model. Remember technology from 1977 lasted until 1993 - and an IBM Pc was nothing realy new except using a CPU that is capable to work 16 bit internally.
not much, ive met woz and hes an awesome guy, from what ive heard from people who worked during the release of the apple macintosh and ending of the apple ii said Steve was an asshole.
Thanks for uploading, and thanks for being a part of our lives, Woz! I cut my teeth on the ][, but it wasn't until '95 or so until I finally called one my own.
Never liked the MacInToy. Apparently, neither did Woz. The ][ was and still remains his baby.
But Steve Jobs also basically saved the company during the late 90s. But then again, if Woz was still there, Jobs wouldn't have been stupid and hired a person who manages soda...
So Apple II 'Forever' means until November 1993? ;)
Anyhow, I had a //c growing up and it was so easy to use. No expansion slots, menu controlled system utilities to configure serial ports, very easy system to set up initially.
My parents had one PC in 1996 and after the crap of dealing with Windows 95, we went Mac again.
I swear, I empathise with anyone who switched from a PC to a Mac after using that horrible facade of Windows 95!
This just makes me sad. If Apple had stayed true to Woz's vision of a fun computer, instead of looking to Job's and his elegance over function philosophy, things would have been very different. Look around the net for the story of how Steve Jobs wouldn't even let the Apple engineers add a single expansion port on the first Mac. They tried to sneak one in as a "factory diagnostic port", but he caught on and made them take it out.
The Apple II is still a great computer after all these years.
