@doobeedoo2 because its hard to get the lisensing and copyright approvements but they do get a few more each year and they have to be renewed which is a bit of a bitch :S you'd think simon cowell one of the biggest names in the music industry would have no problem with it but :S o well

You are right; it does seem fairly hard to believe that they can't pick just about anything since pretty much any artist can cover just about anything and sell it on Itunes as long as they pay the royalty; it's a standard situation. Nerina Pallot noted this in her YouTube discussing Mcelderry's cover of Real Late Starter. My guess is that there is not only a licensing issue, but a friend of Modest/Syco issue too...Thus Manilow, Elton, Robbie, etc every yr.

@taska247 One positive thing about hearing the same songs yr after yr--on Idols worldwide as well as X Factor--is that you get to compare and contrast. As I mentioned, what I hear to my surprise when I compare the X-Factor takes of this tune is what a little savant Mcelderry is. People may not acknowledge that as they may not like him or his tone, but as I go through the youtube vids, I am finding that the munchkin caresses every bit of melody just about every time.

Probably my favorite performance of Leona.. aside from "Summertime", Leona is fantastic.

I didn't really like it when she sang Whitney or Mariah, it was beautiful, but I liked it when she messed with the melody and "Leona-fied" her songs, like in "Over the Rainbow"

When you look at Simon watching Leona you can see genuine amazement and admiration, but I am also sure he saw many many dollar signs!
