Thanks for sharing the video, and thanks to everyone in the group for showing us that with practice, dedication, love for music and dance we can show the positive side of how technology can help us become connected to one another as human beings. GREAT JOB...!! * :-)
Governments separate us; we, as species folks want to unite. This fun breaks all the ice. It is fun to get along. We love each other; just look at all the colors. [not the clothes] see all of the wonderful people =^.^= Great
Try walking into a crowd all by yourself, start singing and dancing, and if you can get hundreds of people to sing and dance with you, I'll be impressed. This is just a concert no one was told about.
It's nice to have a few minutes of happiness and fun. Why must everything be dissected? Thank you to all the wonderful people who participated in this event. It's the kind of feel good stuff that reminds me of the old Hollywood musicals they show on Turner, where out of nowhere everyone begins dancing and singing. Wish it would happen a lot more...
Awesome energy, looks like fun. How do you get involved in one of these? For all of the negative responders.............c'mon, be positive! Isn't there enough turmoil in this world right now for you to "dis" what these people are doing?
As someone who was part of it I gotta say there were things I liked just like there were things I didn't like... It was great fun and for a good 3 days I had the chance to meet people both young and old who wanted to have a good time by doing something a little different! I agree that this wasn't much of a flash mob just because so many people knew it was gonna happen... But none the less we all worked hard, practiced and gave it our all :) and I am really happy that I got to be a part of this!
@CosplayNanasan well, that's good feedback. I think flash mobs are evolving and in our case...it was a celebration. As well, it would be virtually impossible to get the support of a venue and bring over 700 people into it, thousands more to watch...without some structure. The one coming up in April may be a lil more secret...but if it's not...no worries. The event is really about bringing people together to have a great time...and 50,000 views later...I think we did that.
this is created to promote something "other" than tourism. someone here has an ulterior motive, the mall, the producer, whatever, but clearly this has nothing to do with getting people to come to orlando, puhlease. how, by celebrating our sunny skies INSIDE a mall? The poor people who made a fools of themselves for the sake of their town (though loved it) should not have been told they are "helping" their community by spending time learning bad choreography.
@Orlandogirrrl You should be part of the next one maybe your grumpy self will be a happier person. You didn't do it so you wouldn't know how much fun it was and who cares if we were inside a mall people will see that Orlando is a fun place to go to. No one made a fool out of anyone we were all having a great time and so were the people at the mall. I would love to see you do the choreography it was a great one and full of energy. Maybe you should get your lazy self off the computer and go dance.
@Orlandogirrrl I'm sorry you feel this way, but it's your opinion. Those involved, over 700, had a great time and over 50,000 views later...clearly a lot of people enjoyed the enthusiasm. Maybe you could now create your own flash mob...and bring all the elements to it that you think were missing from ours. I'm confident many would celebrate that as well;) Best to you. RR
Well....if you want to use the sound equipment of the venue...you need the venue involved. If you want to draw a diverse group of planners together you'll need someone like the great Linda Stewart. And when you put 700 people together to dance, and thousand mores to watch live...and now have over 50,000 youtube views...you kind of begin to realize, flash mobs are evolving. Our event may not have been exactly what you were looking for...so maybe you can create your own flash mob now:) Best, RR
@ssorrandy Then maybe it should not be sold/advertised as a "Flash Mob", and maybe more of a performance, or welcoming committee to the tune of Disney-ish pre-produced music. Flash Mob's should be fun, secretive, and spontaneous. I'm betting a number of people at some point got paid for this. It comes off as soul-less.
Well, that's an opinion. The overwhelming response was VERY positive and to make it clear...no one got paid for their volunteer efforts here. Best to you, Randy.
@wrhsouth not one single person was paid in this event everyone made their own time to do it. i myself drove an hour just to go to rehearsals for it. on three separate occasions. the reason i did so is because its called having fun and doing something that will most likely only happen once in your life to be a part of. the only reason you are even making comments like that is because you are jealous of those who have the courage to do something like that. thank you
@Prettybebita I never said dancers were paid. I can easily see them as volunteers. But with the high level people involved with the set up, some cash HAD to change hands. It would be foolish to assume nobody was paid for the "work" needed for such a "production".
The video made me feel good, I was smiling, enjoying the energy and found a little something that made me happy...in a world fraught with money problems, political problems and everyday problems. Thank you to all those who brought the 5 minutes of joy to so many of us!
come help us hit 70 subs. tommorow is our 1 month anniversary and we are 8 subs away from 70. anbody care to give a gift? be sure to post a comment on the channel saying you subbed as a gift!
Something very simple to state: Isn't it great when such a large group of people get together to just have fun? Call it whatever you want..a "Flash" Mob, a "Smart" Mob or what not, but isn't it great to just go out and have fun sometimes? We have so much negativity in our world from recession, to home value loss, to unemployment rates too high...i hope video gives people 5 minutes to just enjoy LIFE! I know the five minutes i danced here has me still smiling...
@fuzzyfiercecub ...or bitterqueen dip shit--- did you seem to notice that it was celenbrating tourism?? Tourists??--- welcome to orlando? Welcome to millenia? .... Well ... Although orlando citizens may have known about this or heard buzz that something was going down here... Not a whole lot of... Hmm tourists!! Should have known about this while visiting mall at Millenia!! Not to mention there are certain legalities you might not wrap your nelly little noggin around on where to do these things
We continue to see video posted from various people and I've seen hi def , I think there will be another video out to capture a wider screen and HiDefinition. It was fun participatingm the filming and watercolor painters were busy too.
This was soooooo fun!!!!!!! I can't even explain the energy that was there...and all these perfect strangers, coming together, everyone was like a family just for 5 minutes....it was a really cool experience..
maybe next time you shouldn't send out an email the night before pushing people to invite their friends and family to go see the flash mob with the exact date, time and location. equally maybe it wasnt such a good idea for the promoter, Randy Ross, to post the location and time on his facebook. Flash mobs are supposed to be surprising, this was a total failure. You need to rename this to Fail Mob because in the end it was just a well planned performance.
The tourists couldn't see what was happening because of the spectator mob. Also Floridians doing a flashmob doesn't necessarily promote tourism. Otherwise the two flashmobs at UCF, one a OIA and the one at Citywalk would have promoted tourism. All that being said, it was fun to watch, enjoyed it a lot. Met Linda afterwards. She was wonderful. Very friendly and easy to approach for an elected official. Good job.
Everyone I've talked to who either was or wasn't there has been blown away by this video and all the excitement the event created. Who cares what some of these people are saying, those of us who were there know how fantastic it was, and the people I know who weren't, but have watched this clip, are all wanting to participate next time. Thank you Randy and Linda and everyone else for doing something like this! I am sooo there for the next one!
So cool esp seeing the ASL interpreter...Real flash mob or not who cares. But next time it would be cool if there were a whole group of folks doing ASL to do a part where they come out as a group signing in harmony.. :)
Not sure how this dance celebrates tourism in Orlando. The show and choreography was great, but this definitely was not a flash mob. There shouldn't be audience anticipating a show. Suggestion: don't announce the next date, and only send actual location to those who show up to rehearsals...not a couple thousand people who showed interest in the beginning. The true flash mob phenomenon gets more attention on YouTube than it does live.
all of the people who actually partook in this event are OBVIOUSLY from Florida. And I'm willing to bet a large amount of the people in the mall itself were tourists. Now those tourists are going to go back home. What do you think they're going to say? I went to the mall and OMG People randomly started singing and dancing! It's something for them to talk about. Don't be a killjoy.
@tommyboyiscool ...I appreciate your comments...but really, when you try to organize thousands of people...thre is really no way to keep it a secret and in the end...safety has to be the priority...over the surprise. I think people had a great time...which is what really matters;)
Our goal here was simple...HAVE FUN. We were not following any leads and creating our own mark...and everyone from county government, local business and clearly lots of people...had a grand time. THANK YOU EVERYONE, Randy Ross.
Nicely choreographed dance at the mall, but this is not a flash mob. If you have the area roped off and everyone in the mall already knows what's happening then it's a lovely production. It took a lot of work but I am sorry, you didn't get the spontaneity of a true Flash Mob. It was done nicely but you need to categorize this, sorry guys.
@Fbdon99 Actually, the only area roped off was on the second floor where the main camera was set up. People that knew about it stayed mostly on the second floor, too. What was kinda cool was that the folks that didn't know about the Flash Mob knew *something* was about to happen and simply stayed off the Grand Center Stage on their own. The only folks I heard that were asked to move back were those with strollers for safety reasons.
@Fbdon99 I appreciate your comments...but really, when you try to organize thousands of people...thre is really no way to keep it a secret and in the end...safety has to be the priority...over the surprise. I think people had a great time...which is what really matters;) And we're at 11,000 views...now that's a celebration;)
It was fun, it was a great way to showcase Orlando, it was free and all volunteers, it was a truely wonderful experience that had all age groups and no one was turned away, we all sang and danced for 4 mins.
what a fun time today! those of you who are hating on it, have you gotten off your asses and actually done something like this, or do you sit on your ass behind your computer and shoot venom at other people trying to bring some good to the world??? Regardless of ropes or not, the point was to bring attention to Orlando, and that is what we did today. The people at the mall enjoyed watching, whether they knew to expect it or not. Glad to have been a part of it.
incredible effort and excellent job! this can show that all together we can make things happen... when directed in the right direction... :) you guys made my night... loved it!
it wasnt roped off people randomly were surrounding the circle and not walking in the center...alot of people asked me what was going on but i lied ;) anyways it was fun and random and yes it was a flash mob :)
The goal of this Flash Mob wasn't surprise. If it was, they wouldn't have told the performers on Friday that it was OK to tell family & friends when/where we were going to be. Webster's New Millennium Dictionary of English defines flash mob as “a group of people who organize on the Internet and then quickly assemble in a public place, do something bizarre, and disperse.” The element of "surprise" isn't necessarily included. Our Flash Mob was to celebrate tourism in Central FL.
@bozardio I appreciate your comments...but really, when you try to organize thousands of people...thre is really no way to keep it a secret and in the end...safety has to be the priority...over the surprise. I think people had a great time...which is what really matters;) And we're at 11,000 views...now that's a celebration;)
Look at the first few seconds. They did a job trying to hide it, but you can see thick black "rope". It takes all the "flash mob" feel out of it when it has to be planned by the venue.
@wrhsouth OMG! I was there part of the mob lol Have you ever been to the Mall at Millenia?? Those ropes are by the plants next to the escalators lol. Trust me there were no ropes
@Prettybebita0:16 People watching outside of rope, people performing inside of rope. No plants. Escalators are several feet to the left. No flash mob element was ever used. It was a show put on by the Mall and Orange County. Not a Flash Mob.
I LOVE IT, ME AND MY FRIENDS ARE THERE, WE HAVE FUN...THANK YOU LINDA, AND FOR THOSE WHO SAID THAT DONT LIKE IT, I AM GOING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING, BE BLESS, AND FOR THE NEXT TIME, WE GOING TO CALL YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!! LOL CONGRATS GUYS WE DID AN EXCELLENT JOB ;-)
thats not a true flashmob!!!! looks like they cleared their "stage" and even told people to wait and watch. maybe it was a "cute" performance by amateurs and people in casual clothing kinda dancing in sync (not all), but they didn't take anyone by surprise and the whole self-serving mall at millenia intro was weird. Not as weird as the blonde lady waving her hands at the beginning tho.
Hopefully the next one will feel a little less contrived. Most flash mobs evolve more slowly and end with a big finish, and this kind of went for the big finish right off the bat. It still looked good, but it felt more "commercial" than others that I've seen. Still, it looks like everyone who participated had a great time!

Glad to have been a part of it.

it wasnt roped off people randomly were surrounding the circle and not walking in the center...alot of people asked me what was going on but i lied ;) anyways it was fun and random and yes it was a flash mob :)
crazy407chick 1 year ago
Flash mob FAIL! Worse I've ever seen.
chiefcalcub 1 year ago 2
@chiefcalcub Disagreed. NOT the worst by far!
jenvargas 1 year ago
The goal of this Flash Mob wasn't surprise. If it was, they wouldn't have told the performers on Friday that it was OK to tell family & friends when/where we were going to be. Webster's New Millennium Dictionary of English defines flash mob as “a group of people who organize on the Internet and then quickly assemble in a public place, do something bizarre, and disperse.” The element of "surprise" isn't necessarily included. Our Flash Mob was to celebrate tourism in Central FL.

Next time don't have a crowd standing around waiting for you to start. Kinda ruins the spontaneity of it.
bozardio 1 year ago 3
@bozardio people started forming a circle because of seeing video cameras
crazy407chick 1 year ago
@crazy407chick So.....hide the cameras next time?

Awesome!! What a "feel good" video.

How is this a "flash" mob when they have a roped off section to dance in?
wrhsouth 1 year ago 2
@wrhsouth Roped off???? There was no ropes
Prettybebita 1 year ago
@Prettybebita Yes. There was.
Look at the first few seconds. They did a job trying to hide it, but you can see thick black "rope". It takes all the "flash mob" feel out of it when it has to be planned by the venue.
wrhsouth 1 year ago
@wrhsouth OMG! I was there part of the mob lol Have you ever been to the Mall at Millenia?? Those ropes are by the plants next to the escalators lol. Trust me there were no ropes
Prettybebita 1 year ago
@Prettybebita 0:16 People watching outside of rope, people performing inside of rope. No plants. Escalators are several feet to the left. No flash mob element was ever used. It was a show put on by the Mall and Orange County. Not a Flash Mob.
wrhsouth 1 year ago
@wrhsouth I'm not going to argue here. There's no need to. We had fun and we will do another one soon.
Prettybebita 1 year ago 2
@wrhsouth the only ropes were by the escalators not anywhere else though people made a circle thinking something would happen
crazy407chick 1 year ago
@wrhsouth There is a level of permission needed in doing a flash mob no matter how 'unrehearsed' one looks, especially on private property.
jenvargas 1 year ago
@wrhsouth .... I was there ... no ropes other than on the second floor ... I promise you, there were no ropes on or around the dance area.
LLofAvalon 1 year ago 2
@wrhsouth There were no ropes. What did exist was an open area allowing the umbrella walkers to cross the crowd safely but it wasn't "roped off."

ValRocks96 1 year ago 4
thats not a true flashmob!!!! looks like they cleared their "stage" and even told people to wait and watch. maybe it was a "cute" performance by amateurs and people in casual clothing kinda dancing in sync (not all), but they didn't take anyone by surprise and the whole self-serving mall at millenia intro was weird. Not as weird as the blonde lady waving her hands at the beginning tho.
Orlandogirrrl 1 year ago
@Orlandogirrrl That blonde lady is The Orlando's City Commissioner Linda Stewart. There were a lot of people at the mall who were surprised.
Prettybebita 1 year ago
@Prettybebita I'm sure they were surprised, thinking they had been transported back in time to 2005, when flash mobs were all the rage.
ASurroca 1 year ago
@Orlandogirrrl Not true. No one was "cleared" or "roped off." If people hung around to watch, it was because they wanted to.
jenvargas 1 year ago
Hopefully the next one will feel a little less contrived. Most flash mobs evolve more slowly and end with a big finish, and this kind of went for the big finish right off the bat. It still looked good, but it felt more "commercial" than others that I've seen. Still, it looks like everyone who participated had a great time!
