@purplesoren this is in the tajik language. Bukharian Jews speak a Jewish dialect of the Tajiki Persian language. and the songs are traditional Tajik/Bukharian Jewish songs from Central Asia mixed into a modern dance mix
I think a little of both is good. Preserving our traditional music and culture (be it B'nei Edot haMizrach/Eastern, Sefardi, Ashkenazi, Jewish Ethiopian, Jewish Indian, or other) is essential, but so is living in the modern world. I see no reason to give up either the past, the present, or the future. Am Yisrael Chai!
I looked for my teacher among these musicians.. My teacher Nisan taught me Kashgar-Rubab for 5 years in music school. His and my mother were childhood friends. Thanks to Bukharan Jews many Uzbek and Tajik cultural herigate, shashmaqam, dance traditions and jewellery-making have survived so far. We should admit and thank these woderful people!
Dear alpbukhari, I think you are right. The current culture seems so unfulfilled without these great artists. The rarely visit of Tajik Jewish musicians back to Tajikistan has such an anshlag there, which means a great loss and nostalgia. But one thing is clear, they made a history in these cultures.
Roushandil when Iran Turkey or Russiantatar muslims were a way advanced in late 19th century. uzbeks and tajiks were quite strict. We even didn't publish Koran in Bukhara or tashken. Our mullahs said - "How we can put Allah's words under the typing-stone?" WE aways brough Koran from Kazan or Ufa in Tatarstan. But it was jewish people who preserded our culture and traditions from extinction.
i wished if jews stayed in uzbkstan. with them went the beautiful language of buxara. now its hardly a day when persian is heard in uzbkstan. it is all uzbeki now
I;m not targetting anyone, Had to answer when we - Uzbeks were targetted. And i have just brought the facts. I'm as quarter tajik as quarter Uzbek. So I can't be completely on one side. But what i observed for years - uzbeks are less nationalistic than smallet ethnic groups in the region. Maybe simpl because they are ver expanding anddon't feel threteaned. Otherwise, Kyrgyz, tajik or turkmen are quite vulnerable to Uzbek cultural and ethnic expansion. I don't know it's good or bad...
Sorry but there never was and is any uzbek cultural expension in Tajikistan for the simple reason that these are two completely different cultural, linguistic and anthropological phenomenons as Tajiks are more binded with Iran and Afdghanistan then any Central Asian cultures. You can say it of your other neighbours but deffinitely not Tajiks.
Riushadil u probably not familiar with cen Asia. Please, don't compare 14th century shaybani Uzbeks with modern Uzbeks. Modern uzbeks only inherited the from them. And at least 80% of them r as same as Tajiks in all ways! Since 6th, later 11th century modern Uzbekistan started becoming more turkic speaking. Culture, antropolgy (in general) are same between modern tajiks and uzbeks. We were iraniasn 1000 years ago & now Turks!
Well 1. I am originally from Taj. in my hearts I always remain Tajik and I am damn proud of it.
2. Once you emphasise the closeness of Tajiks and Uzbeks then I am left to wonder at the amount of hatered of Uzbeks towards Tajhiks and by the way there an amount of your contribution to this as well (unfortunately).
3. You can hardly find the same reaction by Tajiks (of Tajikistan because if you may know millions of Tajiks are residing outside the main land) against any nation.
Still wish you good luck and hope you will channel more positive reaction towards Tajiks.
I am sorry if this is really the case but I am strongly against this and many other things that are going on over there, back home and I am sure I am not the only one. Hopefully things will get right one day...
I think it's not so bad. Bukharan and other mid asian group are the only people from ex-URSS that I like! This culture is closest to middle east style than any russian things!! I think that most of Russian who are living in israel are fake jews. They have to go back home!!
Ashkanaziare just as jewish as Bukharians, if not more. We're jewish by blood, not by tradition,at least todays generation only b/c our grandp's were raising incities, were communism was more spread outjewish practice was quite hard. you know what, ashkanazi always fought all the wars, all the massacres of jews in ukraine! the bodies & jewish blood spilled on that land is too much to count.I rarely hear of bukharian jews bein at Auschwitz thats all I have to say.
@manunichka You're absolutely right, the Bucharians never endured traumatic events such as the holocaust, but, if you look deeper into Bucharian culture we were brought up very poor, there are tons of Bucharian museums in Manhattan for you to see how impoverished the lives we led there. And also the Bucharians, in their native countries weren't given as much if any freedom. The Jews In Germany had rights to be land/business owners. It's is so sad that we Jews can't play our traditional music. Instead of it, we mix it with modern music and can't preserve our traditions.

These are Persian-speaking Jews, and I can understand every single word in the song he is singing.

May you continue to do so, and to keep your beautiful culture alive and well. The Bukharan tradition is a beautiful part of the Jewish mosaic.

Sorry to hear that. The death of a culture in its native land is a sad thing. But the Jews of Bukhara live on, just in other lands.

Oy, voy, I wish people would just live and let live, already. It's a shame when people target one another just for being different.
