  • I hear a lot of Omar in this, honeslty, ok he has some influence and you con hear them but it's still Omar and he's a beast !!

  • Omar and Vin Accardi from BN are just the fucking best.

  • make that one of the greatest guitarists in all wolds*

  • I hear a lot of Jimmy Page in this solo actually, sort of like the one in the Song Remains the Same Version of No Quarter

  • this is the reason for me to hate that kind of people who say "today's music is shit"...

today's music ain't shit, what happens is that kind of people has never heard to omarrrrrrrr, long liveeeeeeeeee volta!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A ver, confesa Omar.

  • BEST GUITAR PLAYER I LOVE YOU OMAR

  • omar has probably the most awesome afro i've ever seen

  • i hear a lot of zappa and fripp in his playing

    p.s. he's really good

  • This is amazing!!!! What is this solo from????

  • @skubee23 Cicatriz on scab dates

  • Fucking unbelievable. His phrasing at the beginning... So good

  • what's the name of the song ¿? plisss x)

  • @manolete340 CicatizESP from the live album SCAB DATES

  • Omar guitar style remind's me John Frusciante.....two of the best guitar players atually.....

  • @GuimoXoX

Completely agree. John Frusciante is my second favorite guitar player next to Omar. :D

  • @GuimoXoX They both made a free album on Omar's site not too long ago. It was really good. Just the 2 of them jamming.

  • "omar is confessing through his guitar playing". cedric said

  • In my opinion, Steve Wilson and Omar are two of the hardest working and underrated musicians to ever grace this planet with both of them working on projects constantly. And both have some of the sickest guitar solos/composing skills I've ever heard. Both have similar ideas, yet different styles and approaches with incredible results everytime. I would love to see them do a tour together, and I would die if they collaborated.

  • @BigTymerPimp Ive always thought but never known anyone who thought that would be a amazing idea. You could have an amazing lineup it could be Steven Wilson on Guitar and vocals,Omar Rodriguez on Guitar,Juan Alderete or Colin Edwin. But the hardest part would be by either having gavin harrison or deationi parks and money mark or barberi on keys.

  • @FunK0Slap0GB I would seriously die a happy man if I could hear a collaboration between them. Someone needs to get on to mentioning this idea to them. I think a lot of TMV fans like PT and vice versa for PT fans. So the listeners would accept it right away, I think. I honestly, see no reason for them never recording together other than the fact that they're constantly busy. It would be a crime if they've never met each other.

  • no...the trick to playing like Omar is to focus on the wrong notes. when you focus on the wrong notes, you hear a shit-ton more and better music than you would, trying to hit every on note.

  • the only thing they have in common is being lefty players, Omar is on another level at this point in recent inovation, hands down the most creative guy around

  • @darthginski I concur, the talent the imagination, the creativity is just out of this world...

  • a ver

    confesa Omar.

  • yeah i listen to this over n over again, its sooo beautiful

  • what song is this called?

  • @1944ACE1944 Judging by the guitar tone and vocals, it's probably part of Cassandra Gemini. I'd chance at guess at 3.

  • @1944ACE1944 it is called simply " C)Pt III" and its one of the last songs of the album Scabdates. recommend listening to it from the top. you can barely see one song changing into another.

  • @1944ACE1944 this is like part 3 of the CICATRIZ ESP jam. which was later a groove for Cygnus....Vismund Cygnus..

  • @magicbag6790 no that was drunkship of lanters jam..most of cicatriz live jams can be heard in cassanra gemini

  • Lopez Omar

  • omg perfect. Reincarnated Hendrix

  • can any conversation about guitar playing not end up in some sort of hendrix debate? its been a reasonable amount of time since he passed, probably time to leave it alone. its the jibberish of bedroom guitarists the world over!!!......

  • CONFESS YOUR SINS OMAR!

    este tio si es cabron

    =D

  • superb fuckn live album!!!!

  • I'm not trying to ofend Jimmy Hendrix

but i think omar is better than him :O

  • @canibaldance die

  • @Profy00

    well thats just my opinion

  • @canibaldance I can get to that.

  • this song makes me want to go stroke.

  • @kevinlarga hahahah good one.

  • Omar just loves destroying that guitar!

  • In this solo, You can definetly see Robert Fripp,Jimi Hendrix & John Mclaughlin as influences.

  • @FunK0Slap0GB who cares, he goes beyond

  • I think he is what musicians today have to be. He is a blend of his very, very diverse influences. He has developed his voice. Musicians who do this, and whose goal is to express themselves honestly, stand out.

  • If anything, Omar's the Robert Fripp of this generation.

  • I don't think we should compare Omar with anyone. He's inspiring a whole new generation of guitarists. Completely unique.

  • i see more jimmy page in this. not santana. i love page's solos and this is just as good

  • Saw these guys a couple of months ago. He's amazing to watch...a freak. Their concert was incredible. ...(SEXY).

    Bloody AWESOME !!

  • i envy you very much!! haha.. any idea when they're next tour is?

  • Mine are David Gilmour, Matt Bellamy, John Frusciante, Johnny Greenwood, and this guy.

Omar is the Santana of our generation, IMO. Keep it up O..

  • I have to disagree with you. Santana has been doing the same shit since he started. I don't think it's fair to even compare the two.

  • I meant as far as the feeling that they put into the music, not so much the variance of material..

thanks for the thumbs down - meanie :(

  • Ok. Fair enough.

And i didn't give you a thumbs down, just so you know. haha

  • oops xD

  • @TheJesselee83 False, Santana's been doing something very new and fresh with Caravanserai, and later through the 80's and on later he's been doing something worse, but surely not the SAME things.

  • him jonny greenwood, david gilour, adam jones and johnny marr are my fav guitarists. :) yours?

  • greenwood! yeah men i like the killwistch

  • HOW IN THE HELL Did This guy pass thru my Hands??? OMG! Hes AWESOME! I Read an artical in the New Guitar Player and hes on the cover ,And I Tubed him ....And This... AMAZING Player is just Blastig Me! AWESOME!! I am Sold...

  • You should look his song with Frusciante called 0, its good.

  • Lol I heard about him the same way.

  • i don't care who the best guitarist is. Omars music speaks to me and in a way that can't be expressed in words. music should defy terms like better.....omar doesn't create music to be on someones best list.

  • hear bits of page in him..like rapid fire of notes coming at you like bullets from a machine gun awesome

  • I agree completely. The difference between Omar and most modern guitarists, is emotion. Omar's solos are full of emotion were most others concentrate on speed. He is a true guitarists.

btw John Mayer is a phenomenal guitarist.(watch his live performances)

  • @vittyman22 yes man! john mayer really knows how to play his guitar :D i don't like his music anyway :D:D:D

  • for me omar is one of the greatest guitarist in all world

  • omar es el mejor tanto en tecnica armonia e inovacion..simplemente es el mejor! y q m chupe los huevos el que diga lo contrario

  • Aver confiesa Omar!

  • seriously 1 in 10? Thats a lot!

  • my 'own' top ten best guitarists of the last decade: 1 jack white 2 john frusciante 3 dereck trucks 4 robert rondolph 5 omar rodriguez 6 john mayer 7 tom morello 8 john petrucci 9 joe bonamassa 10 johny greenwood
  • take tom morello out hes horrible

  • tom morello was one of the biggest innovators in guitar during the mid 90's man... your horrible... although besides morello, jack white, and omar rodriguez lopez, this list is pretty bad..

nick hipa should be in there... seriously the sound of truth is one of the most ridiculous songs ive ever heard...

  • Lol no joke, John Mayer btw... hah.

  • you spelled DEREK wrong!

  • The beginning of this song is just as cool.

  • Omar is the most under-rated guitarist on the planet. He has been making music professionally for 17 years, yet only 1 in 10 people I ask know his name, which is a crime.

  • I was watching a solo video of his and my friend thought he was Hendrix.

Not surprised, not one person has even heard of Volta...

  • He really thought Omar is Jimi Hendrix? That's hilarious. BTW, TMV are on Twitter! Twitter/themarsvolta

  • definitally true

good musik is often not known by many people

  • If anything thing he's under rated!

  • listen,

    he is a great guitarist.

nobody wants to listen to all of you fuckers whine and moan about how hes "overrated"

    nobody cares.

if you dont like the music, fuck off, dont listen to it.

youtube is for enjoyment, dont come a stir up shit.

  • oh this is my favorite part of cicatriz live, and it's got a major tom reference

  • omar and the volta are the best thing to ever happen to music.

  • agreed

  • to catch this jam live would be glorious!im sure they still bust it.

  • Omar's technical prowess on guitar is still improving. I saw him live earlier this year and he fucking blew me away.

  • the mars volta are so good at making things come together this solo to me is a prime example

  • They need to release another live cd, or even a DVD, because live shows are never the same again, he does different amazing solos each time, which isnt even on the song in the cds

  • from what song is this?

  • cicatriz, as you can see, part 3/4

  • Omar's gutair skill is obviously great but his composition is what truely sets him apart. Many people can play the gutair as well as him, but his vision for music is unmatched by anyone...ever.

  • I couldnt have said it better. Agree 100%

  • i wouldnt say unmatched, uncomparable would be better. ex. Frank Zappa, John Frusciante, Can, Hendrix, Syd Barrett

  • ohhh really well let al the youtubers watch urself nailing even one omar live solos and then you can talk

  • Pardon? Since when does my prowess on guitar have any bearing on this? As they say, an ad hominem argument is no argument at all.

  • lol I can't see any similarities between Omar and Fripp. Some riffs here and there, nothing more. That shitty argument is overused, sorry.

  • Lol, no it isn't. You're a fool if you can't note the similarities. Look at Red as an album. Then look at just about anything by Omar.

You're only mad because you're wrong.

  • Hey don't be a douche. Yeah, Red has SOME similarities, but you can't say it's a rip off. I would even say that he is more like Frank Zappa than Fripp...

  • Never said it was a rip-off. I'm just saying they're very similar, and people accredit Omar with too much. Not to say Omar doesn't deserve some credit for his technique and prowess, but he's overrated.

  • @25snakesaredrowning i don't think anyone sounds like him and the closest person to his sound already plays with him on his cd

  • This solo changed my life

  • why r u a woman now?

  • nice

  • en lugar de discutir sobre lo que dijo cedric deberían escuchar esta hermosa pieza de música que nos regala omar

  • diga lo que diga, lo que importa es la belleza con la que están tocando

  • he says "Confesa omar" not "Confiesa" wich is very different

  • Hey everyone, I see you are all struggling to figure out what does Cedric says before the solo. What he says is: " A ver, confiesa Omar" wich means in english "Lets see, confess Omar"

  • bueno eso ja ja , mejor escrito ... pero no es contesta...=D, Omar es de los mejores de la epoca ...

  • haber confesa omar!!.. CONFESSSSSSSS

  • it's "a ver, confiesa omar"

  • A ver... confesa omar

  • Does anyone know what cedric says at the beginning?

  • Comment removed

  • Can someone tell me what key this solo is in?

  • It's based around E minor :) Those four descending notes in the bass are definitely in E Minor I played along to it.

  • Thanks alot man.

  • wheres it start? like what notes?

  • I can't get to a keyboard now to have a play around. But work out the E minor scale: it only has the one sharp, F# because the relative major scale is G... Stop me if I'm wrong...

This is part of Cicatriz and the bass for that at the start is easy because it's e,e,e,e,eflat(d sharp),repeat,f#,f#,f#,f#,e,f# etc etc. So knowing this might help you get to this part..

I'm not 100% about it being E minor now but give it a try and let me know how it goes :)

  • its E minor but he uses tritones

  • Sounds like B minor to me:|

  • sounds a little like the string build up part in cassandra geminni, I love this though.. the best moment off scabdates by far!

  • fuck yeah!!!!!!!!

  • Now that's a Jazz guitar!

  • Amazing

  • how can i get this tab? any1?

  • dude if you need a tab play more.

  • Study music for hours instead of wasting hours looking for tabs, I know it can get hard and stressing to find out how to play a song especially if you're new but you have to mess with chords, build chords, play around with notes and see what sounds right or what fits that's how you get better and not the constant reliance on someone elses work.

  • and then at the end, when you play it knowing you learned it yourself, it sounds sooo much nicer than if you learned it off tabs. All the more of the whole "put your emotion in your work" type stuff. I learned Asilos Magdalena myself like that. It feels great when I play.

  • I agree with jeianafa, although it's good for a start, looking up and learning from tabs can become a terrible habbit towards learning songs. First time I tabbed something out myself was a greater accomplishment than being able to play any song I read tabs to.

  • best part no doubt. my mother saiddddd!!!!

  • thanx for this . the best part of scab dates.

  • 1 of the greatest solo by him.....full of passion.....soo sexy....

  • Amazing, and very creative... Omar FTW!

  • waajajaja ... thats fucking right..its " a ver confesa Omar" dumn shit.. omarcitos te queremos !!! omar es lo mas grande que a salido de el paso,texas... give your haannndd aaaaawaaaa.... amo al "mar dao vuelta"

  • se escribe "a ver", ignorante -.-'

  • i asked someone because I DON'T KNOW SPANISH. i am ignorant because i got a wrong translation?

  • "haber confiesa Omar, confiesa Omar..."

  • DAMNNN! i cannot describe how much i love this guy. really. he's awesome,he's a genius. why you try to compare him with other people? it does not make sense. he has his own style, he is different. never seen such a creative guy, just take a look at the bands he played! he must be sitting all day with his guitar and writing new songs. thats so crazy.

music has never influenced me so much as this one does.

i love omar, i'm not a groupie but he's even sexy.. pls marry me,omar!! :)

  • "haber confiesa Omar, confiesa Omar..."

  • what does it mean?

  • lets see, confess omar, confess...

  • omar has such great fashion sense and fuck everybody that say u cant compare him to hendrix i lux jimi and no one has moved me with a guitar like him since omar.he is so good his playing touchs my soul

  • it's still cool to spell out whole words...

  • music isn't about how amazing you are at playing the instrument, or being the best, it's about what is enjoyable to listen to. and i would pick listening to tmv over hendrix anyday. sorry!

  • I like TMV, but I don't Omar is a great soloist. Most of his solos are too low, and come off as background music. Very few of them have impressed me. You can't compare his solo abilities to Clapton, Page, or Hendrix. You can although compare his songwriting, bandleading, rhythm guitar, sound manipulations, and energy to the greatest.

  • I agree. I think that his guitar playing is more about adding something to the whole thing, not trying to steal the spotlight with big flashy solos (even though Take The Veil was amazing)

  • well, he may not be the 'best' at soloing, but it still sounds fucking amazing and every time i listen to his music i get lost in the song... much more so than clapton, hendrix, or any others.

  • he has an ability to make soloing not soloing which is his strong point, he doesnt need to kill everyone, or have to really draw attention to himself, he would solo just to add to song, not to try and be a god, and as for comparing him to clapton, page, or hendrix, it would be comparing be like comparing a banjo player to a metal artist, they are that different, really saying one is better is extremely subjective, their all great musicians dont get wrong

  • which guitar is he playing.

  • i always listen to this when i get nervous

  • god at the drive in was really holding him back cause omar never played like that wit them

  • grindin' rawness, i love it, his pedal syndrom and sythisetical helucinegenic riffs from space

  • If anyone embodies a Hendrix sound it's not Omar it's John Frusicante. Besides Omar is more of a John McLaughlin figure with the riffs that he pumps out.

  • Omar's Omar, dude.

he doesn't have to try to be anyone else.

  • No that's true but to compare him to hendrix isn't right, cause they're two great guitarist with two different souls. Making two different great sounds. I was just saying if people are going to compare him to anyone it should be John Mclaughlin. Though Omar is his own man with his own style so I do agree with you 100%

  • maybe....im weird or sumthing.....but dis song...giv me.....the goosebumbs....i juz luv the s0los in part1 n 3...

  • holly shit, just listen to Jon's master control of dynamics! Thomas can play whatever the fuck he wants, be as technically skilled as possible, he's far under mr. Theodore's musical sense.

  • i for some reason dislike the comparison between hendrix and omar

to me they are soo different musically

like for starters omar never even wanted to play guitar

in fact he hated the instrument

and musically they both represent something much different to me

though they are both incredibly good

i know im only restating the known for fans but im just saying that i dont really put them together other than the fact that theyre both good guitar players

  • i agree wit u they r really not that similar they both jus play guitar in my opinion omar is way more musical not only for the fact that he mastered an instrument he doesnt like but he writes everythin pretty much for TMV and even has time to come up wit his own dvds and cds and projects an shtuff... omar is a genious :D

  • yea thats what i was thinking too man!

hes more like frank zappa in my opinion:)

  • Omar: Afro Left handed Amazing composings kills Unnatural guitarplaying powers Jimi: Afro Left handed Amazing composing skills Unnatural guitarplaying powers Coincidence?
  • I THINK NOT

  • What are you suggesting it could be, other than a coincidence ?

  • i am so deeply in love with omar rodriguez-lopez

  • Disagree with me or not all you want, but as an aspiring musician and a guitarist I feel I should say the truth, and that is Omar Rodiguez-Lopez is one of the best guitarists of todays music. He has the drive and the psychadelic feeling as the late great James Marshall Hendrix, and the smooth playing that makes the notes cry as David Gilmour and Carlos Santana. My hats off to Omar for keeping that musical energy alive and well, he has now become my new inspiration.

  • Omar gone wild again.

  • Cedric's voice is trully amazing! The Mars Volta are amzing! Everyone needs to listen to this band!!! And see them live... They are even better live, even though it's nearly impossible to be better than they already are!

  • 1:30 is probably one of the most amazing parts on this entire album

  • Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is the best!!! (after Jimmy Hendrix of course)

  • Interesting that you can't even spell 'Jimi'.
