  • I love the sound of that ship alarm, anyone have a link to something similar?

  • @movmakerNeo It is the same as Reach, on Invasion.

  • @bormos3 i forgot to add ...so am i the only one FREAKED OUT by the fact....

  • ahh! best navy scene ever

  • hard starboard would be avoiding the other ship, they look like theyre the same size

  • Why did he shout hard starboard, That would mean he wanted to ram the other ship or he was trying to go under it. That Cov pilot was pretty shitty too, I know I'll risk my ship just to damage his.

  • @NANOFORGE Starboard is right. He was trying to avoid the Covenant ship. You can also see the Spirit of Fire is trying to tilt away from the other ship at 0:15, going up and away from the Covy ship :-). Don't know about the Covy ship though, they could be trying to ram the Spirit of Fire, which would explain why this happened in the first place. It seems very unlikely that two ships would collide like if they were both trying to avoid it.

  • @nithelmusic I love how the Spirit of Fire got damaged but the Cob ship did'nt. Cov ships are no way near as durable as UNSC ships. The Pillar of Autumns armour was so thick it was considered indestructable. Starboard is right, sorry port would mean left, I got mixed up alittle. The Spirit was probally trying to go under it. The Spirit should just fire it's forward MAC at it.

  • @NANOFORGE Well, the Spirit of Fire is a modified colony ship and wasn't made for war like Pillar of Autumn was. That might be the reason ;-). And we don't really get a good look at either of the ships after the collision, and we saw the collision from an angle that is obscuring the covenant ship. But yea, the MAC's would be a good way to end the battle quick.. I also think it's strange that they didn't have the deck guns ready for battle sooner :P. Oh well, we could spend all day speculating...

  • @nithelmusic Well from what I've read, the MAC cannon is a fixed mounted weapon usually on the front of a UNSC ship. The ship had to be facing it's target to make full effectiveness out of each shot as the shell has no guidence system. I also know that even the largest of Cov ships can only take 3 MAC blasts before their shileds fail. A hit from a MAC would kill that ship easily.

  • @NANOFORGE If what you're getting at is that they would have to turn around and face the covy ship before they could use the MAC's, that seems reasonable :-).

Btw, would you happen to know if the UNSC ever developed energy shields for large structures? I've trying to look for it, but I haven't been able to find anything but the personal shields for Spartans.

  • @nithelmusic The UNSC was trying to reverse engineer cov technology yeah. Those Super MAC's like Cairo station used a similar tech to the Chiefs ray sheild. However UNSC ships were only protected by a 2 meter think Titanium hull, it was a sort of reactive armour. The Pillar of Autmun was said to be able to kick ass even if 90% of it's armour had been destroyed. I've read somewhere about Super MAC, no ship cov or UNSC can survive a hit from one. We are talking over a Million Megatons per shot.

  • @NANOFORGE I've heard about it being maybe being about a petaton in strength.

  • @EvilCleric Yeah Well the SMAC reaches about 1,000,000 Megatons, which is 100,000 Gigatons or over 10 Teratons. Ship mounted are weaker due to the size of the firing mechanism, the most powerful ship mounted MAC still reach Teraton level fire power though.

  • @NANOFORGE Wow, that's a lot weaker than I thought. Still powerful as hell though. I've seen the shipboard MACs worked out too. Either someone at Bungie really went out of their way to do this or the people that did the calculation made an awesome mistake. About 1.17 teratons for a shipboard mac.

  • @EvilCleric Yeah thats right I've seen the schematics in a book somewhere, I can't remeber the naem but I can look for it.

  • @NANOFORGE The sheer foce from a hit is around 197 EXAjoules of force. 1 exajoule is 1024 terajoules. 1 terajoule is 1024 gigajoules. 1 gigajoule is 1024 megajoules. 1 megajoule is 1024 kilojoules. 1 kilojoule is 1024 jouls. That's a LOT of energy. NOTHING can survive a hit from a super MAC

  • @TheFamine123 My mistake. 1 exajoule is 1024 padajouls which is 1024 terajouls.

  • @TheFamine123 "NOTHING can survive a hit from a super MAC" A SMAC is 9.98 Teratons, thats not even 1/10th as powerful as the asteroid that killed the Dinosaurs, oh and guess what, the Earth survived it. So yes things can survive a SMAC. In Star Wars, an Imperial Star Destroyer can take 800 Teratons before loosing shields. SMACs give of alot of energy but saying nothing can survive them is complete and utter bullshit, some asteroids impacts have generated much more energy than 9.98 Teratons

  • @NANOFORGE I thought you would understand that I didn't mean planets. I was talking about like any ship or say anyhting created by the covenant (almost everything anyway) But if the earth were hit with say 192 Exajoules of force it would do a bit more then "scuff the bumper". The NOVA bomb I doubt carried 192 exajoules of force. Then again a SMAC round can't go all that far before it looses it's energy/inertia

  • @NANOFORGE 73.349% Statistics are made up on spot.

  • @Felixia0039 Except most, if not all of what he said is correct

  • @Felixia0039 They are still canon though.

  • @NANOFORGE there is one covie ship...that can stand an Orbital mac round... CSO- Class SuperCarrier (its 30 KM long...like 10 Xtimes bigger than a Assault carrier

  • @NANOFORGE Cairo isn't a super MAC platform. Reach has it, Earth doesn't. Earth defence made it up for having hundreds standard MAC platform.

  • @Felixia0039 According to the Halo Wikia, Cairo has the Mark V Super Mac Gun. This is backed up by Sgt Johnsons speech in the mission; "That MAC gun could put a round clean through a Covenant capital ship"

  • @NANOFORGE The armour used on UNSC ships (Titanium-A battleplate) was outstanding against human weapons like missiles and bullets, but was useless against plasma. Super-MAC's were only mounted on orbital defence stations, and yes, no ship, human or Covenant, could survive a direct hit from one. In fact, the slugs they fired could tear through both the shields and hull of 3 or 4 Covenant ships. Try stopping 3000 tons of depleted uranium travelling at 40% the speed of light.

  • @GrumioClemens SMAC's have impact energy in the Teratons. Yeah it was stated that SMAC rounds had so much kentic energy that they would go straight through the hull and sheild of any Covey ship and still have enough energy to kill a second ship.

  • @NANOFORGE Indeed. MACs and SMACs are the only non-nuclear weapons employed by the UNSC that have the power to effectively take down a Covenant ship. However, their relatively slow rate of fire means that, as they reload, other faster Covenant ships can breach their defences and destroy them.

  • @GrumioClemens Yep, MACs and SMACs are basicly mass drivers or rail guns but on a much larger scale.

  • Why did he even shout "Hard starboard" xD? I can't imagine that the A.I wasn't doing everything possible to avoid collision before anybody else even noticed the covenant ship..

Also, either the Spirit of Fire is hell of a lot bigger than that covenant ship, or it just got the whole left side of the ship blown to pieces, it seems that way anyway ./

  • @nithelmusic The Spirit Of Fire is Bigger then the Conenent Ship, The Spirit of Fire is over 2 Kilometers long lol

  • Wait, did they RAM the other ship or move to avoid it?

At first I thought they were ramming it.

  • He ordered the ship hard starboard, so from his perspective he wanted the ship to go hard right. So no he did not try to ram the other purple ship.

  • @nukenate I think its obviously he wouldnt want to ram the ship cuz why wud u want to run into something thats bigger than you? Plus its stupid and he said hard starboard (he means hard right)

  • I love this scene.
