  • @iambernig @Teixeirapictures

If I'm not mistaken, I think that this PG rating (which appears to be a 70s one) may have come from 'The Final Countdown.'

  • "The preceding program contained scenes of extreme violence and should not have been viewed by young children."

    -The Simpsons

  • The good MPAA ratings! The new ones suck.

  • taken from the movie?@CommaBoy

  • ComaBoy, you need to get out of your "COMA" and stop putting us in your state of mind. Why put this up without even explaining what you are doing?

My rating for this is ---WTF---

  • Does anyone have the '80s X rating screen? I know what the full G, PG, PG-13, R, and current NC-17 descriptions look like, but what about the full X description? (For those wondering, most ratings have three-rectangled boxes: the top left rectangle has the rating, e.g. G; the top right rectangle has the full name, e.g. General Audiences; and the bottom rectangle has the age warning, e.g. All Ages Admitted.)

  • I don't get it (sorry). The MPAA IS evil though. Check out This Film Has Not Been Rated. Great doc about sex vs. violence, what sick stuff the MPAA allows (violence against women, animals...everyone... yet bans the most harmless sexual content to the dreaded R rating or even make writers/directors change scenes. Yeah...fuck the MPAA.

  • LOL The helicopter was flying... BACKWARDS!

  • what movie is this from?

  • is this from the early 80's or late 70's?

  • just imagine of what it was like before the rating system, during when the MPAA was known as the MPPDA for censorship how Ridiculous was that?

  • fuck the MPAA

  • @eruppe8342 @TheOpenMinded12460 Parents should use their own rating system, and quit whining about video games, films, T.V. songs etc. Parents should use the media before their kids use the media. Like if there is a movie and a video game called "Blood Sport", parents shouldn't whine when their kid buys it with their will and the parents shouldn't whine when it has violence, blood, gore, sex, nudity, drugs, and cussing in it. Parents should show kids the difference between fact and fiction.

  • So what movie was it?

  • hmmm....in full screen,if you look really closely, the copyright date does appear to say 1980. But,as stated previously,by 1978,the words "pre-teenagers" was replaced in all publicity material by the current "children".

  • I seen one that said GP,general patronage.

  • It's from before 1978,when the words "Pre-Teenagers" was deemed too vague and replaced with the word "Children"

  • Actually, the word "children" is ambiguous.

"Pre-teenagers" specifies a group that precedes the age of 13.

"Children," on the other hand, could imply anyone under the age of 17.

The G rating is usually no problem.

PG implies that content might or might not be inappropriate for those 17 and under.

PG-13 strongly cautions that adult guidance be provided to pre-teens.

R, parental or guardian accompaniment is required for viewers 17 and under.

NC-17, no one under 17 permitted, no exceptions.

  • So,should the PG rating be abolished because of its ambiguousness and replaced solely by the PG-13 itself?

  • No, and that's because there are films where the degree of its content exceed the G rating but aren't quite PG-13 material, although the ratings seem to mostly be assigned subjectively; some material that you might assume as R is PG-13 for some arbitrary reason and vice versa.

But, G means anyone should be able to watch. PG means that some material might be inappropriate to viewers up to 17 (up to the parent) while PG-13 indicates that content is definitely inappropriate to those under 13.

  • G- All audiences/ PG- Parental Guidance/ PG13- Parental Guidance suggested for children under 13/ PG14 (Abolished)- Parental Guidance suggested for children under 14/ R- Restricted under 17 without Parental Guidance/ X (Abolished)- Parental Guidance for 17 and under/ NC17- No one under 17 admitted/ XXX (Adult) Adults only 18 or over viewing.

  • notice for (R) and _X_ that X was only abolished in way of R ratings because with all X movies it made parents feel they were "adult" hence, XXX, and for _X_ films it was 17 and under with Parental Guidance, although R is for just under 17 that Parental Guidance is needed, also with PG13 and R, with PG13

Parental Guidance is SUGGESTED and with R Parental Guidance is REQUIRED, with R and NC17 you can be under 17 to see an R film, with Parental Guidance, but you're not allowed to see NC17 if under

  • My sources are from Wikipedia, MPAA Archives eRa 607080902009, local and older movie theaters, movie commentators.indy, and my usher friends at the theater.

  • i want 10 seconds of my life back!

  • Sadly, you won't be able to have them back. I guess I should apologize. Sorry.

  • When I was wee un ('69-'70 or there abouts),these rating clips would bother me for some reason... I still get a very vauge sense of being unsettled when I see them even now. Odd. Thanks...

  • I kind of feel the same way. When I saw that at work - I had to put it up here.

  • It's mad at you because you saw a movie you were too young to see!

  • @Cjl13 It's Also Mad At Your Babies For Making Them See PG Films

  • You know - we share that feeling. That's why I had to get this clip from my work.

  • I think it's the font in the rating square, it's always looked a little blocky. At least that's what's creeping me out...

  • I think that clip was from "The Final Countdown" (1980).
