  • At the end, it sounded like he said "Gobots...uh... Tonika."

  • @theburntshadow No he said "Gobots from Tonka."

  • they loked awesome!!

they had this shining metal like chrome plastic..

    i loved this toys..

  • Parents collected welfare and bought me gobots

  • Gotta love the way the announcer pronounces the names of the toys.

  • I think what really seperated Transformers from Go Bots was the TF characters were much better. But maybe the Go Bots could redeem themselves if they made a rival modern day movie.... Nah.

  • Transformers: The one true Transforming Robot Toys

Gobots: may have come out first but they're still a rip off, also who has a trilogy of live action movies and still have toys and TV Shows made about them and who has faded into obsurity except for collectors

  • @snakes3425 i think gobots are better toy wise...idk why they are just more appealing to me..but who rules the world of robots?? i have to admit Transformers are the big dogs..but Gobots are the shit for sure.

  • Go Bots would of gone futher but transformers got in there, and took things over

  • remember having a motorcycle gobot as a kid back then don't know the name of the toy...

  • The majority probably didn't know that both Ban Dai's Machine Robo line (Gobots) and Takara's Diaclone Car Robots and Microman Micro Change lines (Transformers) both originated in Japan, at the same time. But even so in America, Gobots came first, but Transformers seemed to have more 'umpf' to the kids back in the day it would seem.

  • Royal-1 was my favorite.

  • @MonyVibescu1919 ROFL nice...I agree. These were cheap plastic. I remember they had the "deluxe" gobots in the cases that open up. They were diecast with plastic

  • I see they used the Machine Robo (M R) numbers during the Stop-Motion sequence. Interesting since Tonka gave these toys their own Gobots number on the packaging.

  • This GoBots and Transformers thing is the same as Digimon and Pokemon in the 90's

  • @the99drill cant say I liked either better than the other, but I too am in the minority and loved the gobots... The toys werent bad either..

  • they're not even robots, nor mighty

  • did they really think of names for these guys I think not!

  • OK

I was there, 11 years old then,

It was that stupid ass Rock Lords crap, and movie that killed GO-Bots....

    Not the Trans {F} ers.

We were still playing with both until they introduced fn transforming rocks.

Rock lords, the only robot toy my mother wouldn't buy me, and I wouldn't steal.

    The 80's, .... man.

  • @3636jae Yeah, turning into rocks is pretty much the shark jumping point for a toy line. Same thing happened with He-Man.

  • Gotta love the stop-motion animation!. This kind of animation is more real than the EVER fake CGI.

  • wow no wonders transformers controlled the market, they needed advert to be more lively the "classy" style they was trying just comes over as dull... making the toys seem worse than they are (no im not saying the good, but im sure ther are worse toys out there)

  • hahaha Cy-Kill gets into doggy style position to transform

  • Megatron would still kick his ass

  • They never did come out with that many Go-Bots though...

  • lol trasformers ripped this idea off

  • Yeah, because all the Transformers names were real winners, right? Bugly is a far stupider name than Fi-Tor. And then, of course, are the toys. Easy to make fun of Go-Bots, but the average one was leaps and bounds above many TFs. I mean, the original Megatron mold made Cy-Kill look like a masterpiece!

  • @CirkimusPrime ! AWESOME... this was the first logical breakdown Ive seen where the Gobots OWNED the transformers....

  • @Loadfaster Thanks! : ) To be honest, I prefer TF over Go-Bots. But much of that is due to nostalgia and sheer volume of material. There's no point in lying over the pros and cons of either Transformers or Go-Bots. (And popularity shouldn't figure into this at all!) In general, unbiased terms, as much as I love the Transformers I personally think the Go-Bots typically were better toys in many ways. Saying this doesn't make me any less a Transfan. Both brands were great overall, imho.

  • @CirkimusPrime yah i figured.... but still... you got to cheer for the underdog every now and then

  • So let me get this straight, your name is Cop-Turr and you turn in to a helicopter.

    Yes!

    Lame.

  • Fitor...Turbo...Cy-Kill - they don't make toys with names like that anymore.

  • Some of the toys weren't as bad as everyone says they are, but the names were some of the most uncreative shit ever. "Cop-tur"? "Fi-Tor"? "Scooter"?

  • wow they make a piece of crap look good lol jk

  • That Was From 1983

  • I always felt Tonka should have marketed the Go-Bots the same way Mattel marketed Hot Wheels and how Galoob marketed Micro Machines. As collectible toys for adults as well as kids. The G v.s E storyline got trumped by Hasbro's Transformers. There were so many Go-Bots toys out there that this type of marketing could have been far more successful.

  • I saw another gobot commercial here on youtube where thy totally did maret them as adult collectables... ill try to find it...

The problen was bad names and bad branding logos.

  • There were awesome! Loved how they could just fit in your pocket and take them to school.

  • cool ;)

  • they ripped of the machine robo commercial 0:07

    to 0:17

  • ab]nd they gave them bad names

  • I was wondering if those were the original Japanese ads - they have the same production style as a number of others from the time...

  • Transformer wannabees! LOL Never had respect for these back in the day when I was a kid. What was the name of the black car who was a bitch? LOL

  • This came out before Transformer, faggot.

  • Now now, at least answer the faggot's question: the black car's name is Crasher.

  • He never properly replied to me, idiot. See how fast i replied to you? He didn't hit the "reply" button.

Ask me a question, so i can go look it up on wiki.

  • TRANSFORMER WANNABEES??! WHAT? Get out of here THESE are the OG's!!! Transformers bit the gobot styles!

  • @Loadfaster I know. People forget that the Go-Bots were around a little while before the Transformers but once the Transformers came out they sort of took over. I guess they were marketed better.

  • It sounds a lot like an extremely bored Maurice LaMarche.

  • @RobTFirefly I was thinking Orson Welles

  • WTF is wrong with the announcer, too much NyQuil??? fitoooorr...coptuuurrrr

  • P.S. I even had the knock-off Go-Bots from China! LOL!

  • I had almost all of the Go-Bots. The ones shown in this commercial were the first 4 ever made. Then they had the guy that turns into the train.

The thing I liked about the Go-Bots was that they were all @ the same scale whereas Transformers were all different sizes.

Then they came out with the larger Go-Bots. I had the tank and the space car.

  • any robot with "kill" in his name is ok in my books

  • Toys from back then ruled.

Go bots and Transformers, were awesome.

  • I still have Turbo (and the guy who turned into a truck!).

    Classic toys!

  • Man! I had Cy-kill. The first day I brought him home the neighbor kid broke him!

  • Awesome. Classic commercial. The 80's rules.

  • Isn't that the Oxy commercial announcer?

  • Republicans like Transformers? Shouldn't you be playing with real guns instead of Megatron?

  • I just noticed that Fitor looks uncannily like MRR Jet...

  • Ain't the gobots and Transformers just about the same thing? I mean thy all are robots that turn into vehicles and weapons and stuff...

  • satan reporting in

  • Didn't the Transformers (microman and diaclone) come out before the Gobots (machine robo) in Japan?

  • I own Cop-Tur and Stacks, that was all the Gobots that I remember owning. The rest were Transformers, good times.

  • i would have been so damn excited seeing an advert like that as a kid, and i just got a chill just now watching it ^^

But unfortunately the Gobot toys were so damn primative next to Transformers. Transfomers Rulez!! But none the less i love these old adverts, do em like this again YAAAY^^

  • I didn't tell my mom I wanted these things because I was kind of afraid of what other girls would think of me. I don't care as much now as I would have back then.

  • i can't wait to own all the gobots and smash the shit out of them

  • Nice!

  • i had cop-tur but the little turd's one arm kept on falling off

  • gobots are a knock off of transformers transformers are beast

  • transformers kinda copied them =O

  • The transformers come for the Microman and Diaclone toyline in Japan. Takara started the the tranforming cocerpt with the Gun robo.

  • This is what I'm talking about. I hate those crappy knock-offs that they tried to pass off as Gobots a few years ago.

  • When I was a kid I used to have Fytor, Coptor and Loco Gobot toys their villains but I ask my Mother to buy for me anyway and this commercial reminds me of my old stuffs though sure brings back memories.

  • There were that many of those little bastards!?

  • "Mighty robots, Mighty vehicles, Gobots." Yeah that's absolutely one of my favourite commercials. :)

  • The new Go-Bots can't hold a candlestick to the old Gobots.

  • Wow, lots of those scenes were ripped straight from the Bandai Machine Robo commercials.
