  • the tapes on the back are looking at me.

  • teac a 3440 reel 2 reel tape recorder

  • very underrated song ....

  • Nice hat Fletch. You can almost see him wishing he was in The Village People. He soon ditched that leather look. Wonder why? It's not as if it makes him look like a camp SS Officer. Oh hold on, it does.

  • Thumbs up if you can see Marge Simpson on the Gahan´s left

  • @mefugoenmicarro

    yes its funny

  • 2:07 hahaha :) great song, great video !

  • TEAC A-3440 reel 2 reel

    i'm lovin it

  • @ghastlyvegan Yeah Fletcher was actually the guy who formed the band. Im afraid he's like Brian Jones from with the RollingStones; integral for forming the band, but overshadowed by the rest of his band mates.

  • @chapmanstickman

    Him and Clarke.

  • I'm as old as this video.

  • DAMN! I didn't know Depeche Mode was this old! that's awesome!

  • @AutoTerminator not old auto terminator wtf! whacko name

  • Love your videos, I subscribed . My puppets want to say hello.

  • Simply brilliant! Check out my Thatch channel.

  • SO minimalist !!! I like it !

  • Oh God very old!!!! but good ;)

  • traznet !

  • охуенно

  • czy wiecie że te male klawisze chłopaki kupiły na wyprzedazy w londynie .a tego kawalka słucham do dzis

  • nice glasses

  • ...My friend's got chocked when is said i didn't know what Depache Mode was. Have faith in today's youngster's... and Chemistry teacher's who plays it loud in class.

  • Gotta say its not the same without Gore there .. is distinctive white bob is right up there with gahans unique vocals..

  • Dear friends, listen to! Dave Gahan was 21 (he was borne in 1960) and for what concerns Fletcher...he always played bass-sinth parts in the concerts of the first two years...then it seems it played few or nothing at all (see video of Live in Hamburg).

Anyway, this video is completely playback, so it doesn't matter who and what plays.

    See you soon!

  • @dzeta1966 David was born in 1962, so he was only 19 in this video

  • look closely .... it´s Shia Labeouf with sunglasses.

  • very cool old shcool demo hot fuck ed up

  • It's amazing how quickly the mood changed from the end of the 1970's to the beginning of the 80's. Within a year had there only been a handfull of electronic bands in the 70's such as Electric Light Orchestra, to there being one such as Depeche mode and the Pet Shop boys popping up everywhere at the same time!

  • What show, was this appearance of Depeche Mode, from?

  • finally some people who not only know great music but know about the greaty band. Thankyou!

  • déjà 30 ans!

  • great vid.

either that song was playing straight from tape or andy's keyboard was unplugged. his fingers were all over the place. :)

  • We used to see them at the bridge house tavern in canning town.

Boys say go,and hey your such a pretty boy.

No one had a concept of how gay it was then.

Once vince clarke left,i couldn't like them anymore no matter how i tried.

  • Moog Source :D

  • Top top... if you have thin scrawny legs dont wear leather jeans

Love DM but only women should wear leather

  • To much listening to this kind of music, make me incredible homesick to the '80s........

  • @sipsaam i llove the 80"s .Was such a good time .happy days .So great that we can remember it with d.m .

  • I hate all the comments on how Fletcher doesn't do anything!!! Depeche Mode consists of David Gahan as vocals, Martin gore as choir and melody,Vince Clark or Alan Wilder as lead and programmer, and Andy Fletcher as bass!! Check out the video on this page Depeche Mode(with Alan Wilder)-Tora Tora Tora he plays the beginning all him self! You can see everyones parts. Connect your eyes to your ears and you will be able to tell who plays what!!!

  • @ghastlyvegan and plus the band was founded by vince and fletch all the others came later.

  • @ghastlyvegan

I totally agree with you I mean I wonder why Andrew Fletcher Is still with depeche Mode till this very day is he really doesnt do anything??

  • @ghastlyvegan If you know something about music and look at his fingers you'll see he's making a lot of mistakes in a ultra simplistic 3 notes bass line. I play that bassline with one hand and the full melody with the other and I'm not a trained musician.

  • @ghastlyvegan What I admire Fletcher for is his laidback attitude. He is now in a band with two extreme attention whores, and he steps back and does his thing. I saw him during concert having a smoke during some songs, and just tweaking the pre-programmed synths occasionally. He's the coolest one of them all.

  • nice one from the early days

  • Brilliant .How handsome were they ? Just love the tape machine !

  • I'm starting to love Depeche Mode!

They're just so.. INTERESTING and AMAZINGG!!!

My mom was so surprised when she heard me listening to them. (:

    <3

  • I love this sound !! :D

  • LOL, I love how Andrew is just mashing his fingers into the keys. "I'll be your operator baby, i'm in control"

  • Bob Dylan should just Leave in Silence.

  • yeah! mash those keys!

  • nice playing flatch....hahahah

    they should plug him in....

  • bob dylan is only croaking jewish POS promoted by jewish media

  • Is this reel-to-reel tape player playing drum loop?

  • teac a 3440 tape

  • they really do look like they have just walked off the set of top gun

  • At 2:08 : Classic shot of two of the best songwriters in pop history. ¿How could so much talent converge in a band?

  • This is kind of funny. They look like theyre ready for the san francisco leatherman parade.

  • I love the chorus of this one.

  • THAT DANCE IS UNIQUE TO DAVE.

  • at 1:27 Fletch looks huge and tall next to that dinkly little keyboard & stand *giggle*

I love old skool DM it makes me happy :D

  • Bob Dylan sucks!

  • awesome thanks

  • Real phenomen and enigma: how four very young boys with no music education became to make such interesting and very quality music???

  • Its too bad they had that close up of Fletch at the beginning. Its is painfully obvious he isnt actually playing anything.

  • Its too bad they had that close up of Fletch at the beginning. Its is painfully obvious he isnt actually playing anything.

  • Sweet, the R2R deck we see is a Teac A-3440. I've got one of those!

  • some really good miming there ;)

Love Depeche Mode...even there new stuff....ish.....

    But u can't beat Speak & Spell.......such a good album =]

  • Love to watch Dave dance!

  • Does any one know what type of Moog that is??

  • @GnarlyWetDream What you can see is a "Moog Source", a monophonic synthesizer,

  • @goetzeclan see more at vintagesynth c0m

  • tascam A3440

  • that synth looks like it was from toyz r us lmao

  • Damn I feel old.

  • пляяяяя, какая на Флетче фуражка гейская

  • @CybeRin

    Так ему и надо!))

  • Lol :)

    thats awsome ;)

    I still lovem

  • Hey, Dont get me wrong cos I love DM but that dude with the police hat is just mashing keys.....

    Hes not playing!!!

    They still rule though :)

  • @sssyntax Well atleast he was doing that. Now he just claps.

  • @sssyntax None of them were really playing, just miming ; )

  • @leonardotube You are exactly right. This is in fact the straight studio track from Speak & Spell. Though by the comments on this video, I'd say many of the people here think everyone but Fletch is playing live.

  • Great vid! thanks for sharing! I love baby mode! so cute!

  • Comment removed

  • vince is the captain!!!!!!!!!

  • Fletch's synth isn't even turned on.. the Moog Source has a clearly visible blinking LED next to the volume knob when turned on (not to mention pressing multiple keys on a monophonic synthesizer)

  • 80s FM synth, it doesn't get any better.

  • OMG DM classic....hands down....

  • Somewhere I seen too bad video of this song. Dat was fucking classic

  • ma come sono belli ahahahaah ma chi è quello alle tastiere vestito da bulletto col berretto?? ahahah

  • look he's got crazy legs :)

  • Is that a band from Blue Oyster club?! lol

  • Wow! Well, as much as I love vintage DM...Dave has gotten better with age! (with the excepton of his long hair and beard phase)

  • lets all go to the blue oyster bar!!!

  • they're so cute.LOL., as they just left the blue oyster bar LOL.

i loved them then ,i still love and i always will:)

  • Vince and Martin look so cool together...I wonder what they would've become if they had never split..?!!

  • @aphasia99 a slightly darker version of Erasure, more than likely

  • If Vince would have never left DM, then that means that there would not have been an Alan Wilder. We would not have the great songs that we know today when Alan was with Depeche Mode. Now I know why Vince left DM. When Vince was with Erasure and Yaz, all of they're music sounds poppy. None of them sound darkish, mysterious and sexual like the rest of DM songs. It was all meant for Vince to leave DM and Alan to become a member of DM.

  • @joseitsme

I disagree. Even if Vince never left, there was still Gore.

Besides, "Speak and Spell" is an excellent album.

I personally think people then to exaggerate tye difference between early Gore and Vince. The "DARK" stuff didn't come until several albums later.

  • martins outfit ist top modern. usher could wear it too.

but andy looks like a barkeeper from the blue oyster bar ^^

  • WMG= Owned

  • Fletch LOL

  • YES!!! GREAT !! A Song from "Speak and Spell" !!

    Thanks for upload!!!

  • Hey - stop quibbling over 80's bands... I mean seriously... check yourself out!

  • DM gave so much to so many people its just pointless to say such stupid things like JRR951

  • I'm sorry but Bob Dylan and DM are very different. I know that for some of you Bob Dylan is a legend, but I just don't know why, I think he was boring, sorry but that's how I feel. Either way I don't mean to insult anyone because everyone has their personal choice, as for me I love Depeche Mode. As for JRR951, I'm sorry but Talking Heads don't have a lot of hits like DM, I just got one word for you VIOLATOR, it's the best.

  • Bob Dylan sounded like an annoying rubber band.

DM were interesting. Thumbs up to you, sir.

  • Thank you, but it's actually madam.

  • @bentsimon what do you know. bob is a mountain.

  • @bentsimon Ouch.

  • at last someone sees the truth

  • @Yssie08 i think talking heads did three great albums - more songs, fear of music and remain in light but i think they are a bit over-rated. their mid 80 stuff was absolute crap. not into dylan, can't stand his voice, but anyone who likes him - fine. blues sucks. from a huge depeche fan

  • @chrisnoaro1 I'm a big DM fan, I think you replied to the wrong person, go see my comment again, lol.

  • Comment removed

  • @Yssie08 Bob dylan is a legend because he is a master lyricist. He wrote "Knocking on Heaven's door" and hundreds of other highly memerable songs. hes a poet's musician, really, but he influenced so many people, probably indirectly new wave music

  • Brilliant Track

  • So great track!!!! I love it a lot too!!!

  • OMG!! I completely looove this track!! 5*!

  • Wow... Martin looked a that time still like a man! Cool.

  • Speak and Spell was such a great album! I bought it on CD a while ago. = D

  • I read an article about this song, which suggested that this song might be about Vince's addiction to amphetamine during his time in DM.

  • Martin looks the same in this as he does now! Same hat same glasses!

  • Rad.

  • Vince is so young, and a full head of hair!

  • dave gahan is one sexy hotty

  • ach du große güte..... ich verstecke mich hinter einer sonnenbrille ... sau gut !!!

  • HILLARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great song

  • wtf

  • New Wave fucking owns.

  • go listen to your damn bob dylan. this music owns.

  • you obviousley dont know anything about music. this rockz depeche mode rockz, alphaville rockz, UVOX rockz Bob Dylan SUX.

  • its a shame you listen to that cheap cowboy shit music. Living legend? so my ASS. Or perhaps he is a living legend, in your small minded world. jimi hendrick, greats? his music is crap. SYnthpop WIll always rock

  • Hey you two, calm down. Hendrix was a guitar god. but JRR951, you won't deny that Depeche Mode has a great influence on music of all styles for nearly 30 years now. You can't talk about music history without taking them into account.

  • He is respected, although I think he is a terrible singer who can't sing many types of songs.

  • umn no. few people like Dylan's voice, yes, he has been influential but so has depeche mode, probably more so. And its not purely synthetic music either.

  • yip SOFAD doesnt have any synths

  • It does, plenty, but they sound very organic.

  • depeche mode more influential? hendrix, the beatles, tom petty... the list goes on of great musicians inspired by dylan

  • In the electronic world. And those that combine electronic music with "real" intruments yeah...DM is very influential.

I could say that Dylan was inspired by black music just as many others...in any case in any reasonable music teachings you cannot

    leave out DM.

  • Well, I disagree.. just listening to Once in a Lifetime a bit and I head he doesn't have a very good singing voice. Besides, most electronic bands are not even even remotely as experimental as DM was and is.

  • Bob dylan overshadowed so many good artists and songs i would call him a music criminal.

  • i don't believe i left that comment for you so i don't know why you're answering back. go listen to your a flock of seagulls and boy george

  • People say they like Dylan just to impress other s. To be honest he's not all that great and officially one of the most overated artists!

  • i'm not the biggest dylan fan and i agree he's overrated but he still is a good musician with great songs

  • What is Bob Dylan? Everyone goes on about him as though he was a prophet or the messiah. When infact he's just a common 4 by 2.

  • its 3 keyboardists by the way, so you dont even know grade 1 math (shame)

  • Anyone who doesnt listen to all genres of music is a fucking close minded moron.

    Everything is awesome.

  • not really. I avoid rap, country, jazz, techno and some more I can't think of right now...

  • early hip hop is classic/funny

    old country is autentic

jazz is amazing, cept lame jazz which is lame

techno is lame. Electronic music is amazing.

  • Glad we don't have to agree :)

  • techno is electronic music lololol and by the way "the first genre of electronic music" lol u live in this world?? and for u there are hip hop shit bands and hip hop good bands, there are jazz sucking tracks and jazz good tracks and country is only for farmers lololol it´s only trash.
