  • What a blast!!!! I have a Marlin also. Best shootin gun ever.

If you want to shoot like that go to bit dot ly/z4i1DW and learn!!!!!!

  • nice gun and so short awsome

  • Is it actually safe to swing cock one of these like Arnie did in Terminator 2? If so, you'll have to do it some time.

  • @LUGNUT1995 sure its safe, but stupid. really hard on the lever too.

  • Sweet looking rifle, its nice. Good shootn too.

  • It looks so nice... I want one..

  • is some one else shooting there? i can hear the shots in the background

  • yippy kai yay ;D

  • do you go hunt?

  • my dad showed me our 45 70 when I was a kid but it was a single shot break down rifle where you could change the barrel to a lower caliber I think or the shoulder part to a pistol grip

was mine a 45 70 too or am I mistaken

  • do you know some companies that sell the marlin 1895

  • Du machst geile Videos

  • Is there gunfire in the background???

  • @enfiled303 Hickok45 lives in a busy neighborhood! see tnoutdoors9. :)

  • How bad is the kick on that? Because I'm planning on getting the Marlin 1895XLR, it's basically a longer barrel version of the 1895 STP. I would just like to know the recoil on it, because I plan on using it for deer hunting.

  • @XxHITMAN11895xX This caliber 45-70 was created for buffalo hunting, it's not for deer unless you're trying to blow them into oblivion.

I had a Winchester 45-90 and as far as the kick was concerned i would compare it to a .300 mag.

  • @sharkattacksteve Yes I know it was made for buffalo, but what I'm hearing from expert hunters is that the .45-70 Gov't can be used for whitetail deer. He also says that the recoil on the .45-70 Gov't isn't all that bad.

  • @XxHITMAN11895xX

    Not that bad, i had a 1895g

45-70 really isn't that powerful compared to modern cartridges, it is barely powerful enough to be allowed to use on elk here

  • @XxHITMAN11895xX

I have the 1895GBL. If you use the Federal 300gr the recoil is fine - maybe 20 ft-lb max and it's great for deer. If you use the Hornady 325 FTX it's a bit harsh probably 30 ft-lb but you get a pinch more range and if you reload up to the max levels or buy Buffalo Bore Ammo etc... it's a real kicker at up to or above 45 ft-lb. You can also reload hard cast 405 grain with low recoil that will take down a deer nicely - just remember it's best under 150 yds.

  • @potatohead5309 Thank you very much.

  • How do you put the rounds in your gun without scraping the loading spring?

  • its called a *Repeater* not *lever gun*

  • @cobrastrike5561 You are correct it is called a Repeater, but depending really on wear you live in the world, it is also called a lever gun.

  • 8 people are douche bags

  • I would also like to say that your the best reviewer online that i know of. I hope you are rated the best at least on Youtube as you go above and beyond to give great background of the weapon, functionality and firing. If i want to see abouta weapon i look at your videos first. And i usually make a comment too =D. So check em out, i may have some insight to things you question sometimes.

  • Hickok, that rifle there would make a great horseback riding weapon. Short and sweet with a big punch. You generally dont want a very long gun while firing mounted and this one is perfect length, coupled with the knockdown power this .45-70 is perfect for handling anything that you are hunting or any threat you may need to deal with.

In all honesty, it was probably designed around that thought as "Trappers" tended to ride horses back then as they usually couldnt afford 4x4 Four Wheelers =P

  • NICE SHOOTIN!!!! TRY ANOTHER ONE!!!!

  • Damn thats a fine Gun Hickok45. i do love them leverguns

  • that was probably the coolest gun i've seen on your videos except for maybe the colt python.

  • you should try to get a FNH SCAR 17

  • That is one sexy firearm.

  • damn that rifle looks good

  • настоящий мужик!

  • if i heard right in another vedeo you said you were left eye dominent. was wondering how that effects your rifle shooting or rather how you over came it in your rifle shooting because you are effecient with hand gun and rifle alike

  • WOW, that is one sweet looking rifle. It sure does look like it is fun to shoot. Oh, and speaking of shooting...very,very nice shooting. Gee, that 45-70 use does pack a punch. Great video!

  • what is the stock made of?

  • @jebidyawillson wood

  • What do your plates look like after the 45_70

  • What do your plates look like after the 45-70

  • @4golgotha they look like they've been hit by a 45-70

  • Hickok you rock

  • if god were a firearm maker this rifle would his gift to the earth

  • Beautiful weapon, always loved marlins. One question Mr. Hickok, do you think you'll be getting your hands on a Remington 1911 enhanced anytime soon? My father wants to get one but I'm a bit of a purest when it comes to the 1911 and I'd like to see what you think. Thanks!

  • oooh beautifull piece of art ya got there sir! Does kick a punch huh seems...but fun.

Do you reload the rounds yourself too?

    thanks

  • I just want to know why there are people that dislikes this videos. I really want to know.

  • I want one! Nice shooting hickock

  • does this rifle suffer with "trigger flop"? i have an 1894 in .357 that does.

  • Comment removed

  • try only pushing the bullets in half way and using the next bullet to seat the first one in the tube. this method will save the skin on your thumb.

  • @WillLemax, Yeah, I just don't like that method generally; it works okay in some rifles, though.

  • Howdy Hickok, I just had an idea, how about a comparison video between the 45/70 and Marlin 444? I reckon that would be mighty interesting.

  • I love your lever gun videos, especially the .45-70

  • If you type ".45-70" on Youtube the three first videos are from Hickok.

  • I wish i could shoot with hickok

  • @FUNNYGAMER3125 Hell, I wish I could shoot LIKE Hickok!

  • Wonder if Hickok has got to play around with a yellow boy yet

  • if only Hickok45 was single, i think he would be in trouble big time. And im NOT talking about with the ladys.........

  • Hickok, were you shootin personal loads or loads from the store? Sunrise Zac

  • really enjoy these vids man, keep it up!

  • 6 people got shot by this gun

  • @ilikeopinel no way!!!...anyone who gets ahot with a 45/70 is buzzard meat ha ha lol i want one so bad

  • You ought to get one of those Magnum Research revolvers in 45-70!

  • " always need to keep excuses handy... never know when you'll need them" gotta love hickok45

  • Is there a price tag the the stp? If so please let me know as I am looking to purchase one.

  • Where do buy your earplugs? My local store doesn't carry the one like yours. They have ones with a jell earbud and the buds come off. I hate them

  • I love the sound of your neighbors shooting guns in the background

  • What is the difference in the STP Trapper and the Guide.....I have an older Cowboy 45-70

I love your bullet containers in all your videos

  • The amazing thing here is the .45-70 in a relatively light gun and Hickok45 is hardly moved by the recoil. I think my .44Mag Browning lever moves my shoulder more!.

  • hickok you are a very nice person and your like one of the only gun reveiwers that never use foul words

  • Happy new year bro and all of you out ther

  • LOL Laminate trees!

  • That is a beautiful lever gun! Mind if I inquire what it cost?

I would love to have a lever action .45-70 with a laminated stock, it would look awesome sitting next to my Winchester 70 varminter which is also laminated.

    Great video, as always Hickok45!

  • @MultiChanel106

    Nope

  • Short barrel is better for shooting while in heavy Brush or "Cut-overs" as we call them

  • Dear Santa,

    Next year, I would like...

  • is that a shotgun?

  • is the gravel on your driveway made from empty shell casings? lol

  • that gun is one of the most beautiful ones i have seen wow now u made me spend more money haha:)

  • Is that the rifle from the movie "the good, the bad &the ugly"? Its awsome!!

  • i cant believe he can even see that, let alone hit it. those sights have to be completely covering the target.

  • wow! that was knockin those things down with some serious authority!

  • I LOVE lever-guns. Thanks for posting.

  • I would like to see a .45-70 with a full sized barrel. And if they don't make hollowpoint projectiles for the cartridge those would be awesome as well.

  • Is this somthing like the model 1887

  • @samvandeudekom lol you play to much mw2

  • NICE GUN!! see that gong swinging at the end?! Nice

  • Ammo $2/round.

  • you can put somebody's eye out with that thing.

  • no snow this year? or is this just a late upload

  • Now heres a man nobody wants to see decline in mental health. The world doesnt need to see a crazy man who can hit anything he aims for.

  • @MelsEpicWheelTime, My mental health is already about as "declined" as it can get! :-) My students would certainly agree! :-)

  • @hickok45 What do you teach ?

  • @hickok45 YES hickok45 replied to me! Whew... Hey maybe you could give me some advice? I'm a 15 year old t4 paraplegic. Me and my dad mostly shoot pistols, and i usually have to shoot rifles from a bench. I don't have any core control. I shoot pistols with one arm rolling and supporting, shooting with the other. I was thinking about looking into bullpup rifles for balance. Main issues are balance and mobility. (Gun Control) I love guns, but i think as a whole, america would be safer without 'em.

  • So how is the recoil? I heard its like a 12 ga slug but with a slow push. Is that true?

  • @MrBobert121 no its more like a roll its rolls up so far you could probably put one more in the chamber

  • ★★★★★

  • Thanks for the video Hickok!

How far were you shooting from?

This is the most I've seen you miss. I was really happy when you got the 2L at the end!

  • is some one else shooting in the backround????

  • I have an old-ish(late 80's I think) Marlin that was passed down to me from my father. It has no recoil pad and the recoil is immense, especially with the hot-loaded rounds I sometimes shoot out of it. What a beautiful gun, so accurate too.

  • I would take this over a 'scout' rifle. Really sweet!

  • 405 gn bullet? They are hot loads I am assuming.

  • Music to my ears. Love hearing the crack of the gun and then the lead smacking into the steel plate

  • The laminate trees grow here in Newfoundland Canada not the tropics. We also grow the resin impregnated trees which we export to Czech Republic for the VZ 58.

  • You post some great videos. I am a Canadian long time hunter, shooter and general gun nut.

You portray shooting for what it can be, great fun!

  • I love lever action rifles!

    TNX for the entertainment!

  • This is a fantastic looking gun, might have just moved it up a few places on my wishlist based on this vid :) I'm a sucker for lever-action.

  • Love those Marlin 1895's with the .45-70 round.

  • i love this gun i would love to have one you sir have made me want one you and you only thanks hickok

  • haha i wonder how much lead is buried in those hills

  • all but 4 people watching this video want this gun

  • @nejinaji nah ill take my 1895GBL

  • "Tennessee AK" :o)

  • It's a real shame what Remington has done to Marlin. Glad I got one before quality went to hell.

  • @powbobs, I've been hearing that. I understand that these were made before the switch-over.

  • @hickok45 What would you recommend between the henry big boy and the marlin 1895?

  • @harriet807, Well, Marlin's been making leverguns for well over 100 years. They are classics, provided their new owners have not ruined a good thing. Some people seem to think so.

The Henry rifles seem to be well made, but I don't know much about them. They are a relatively new company.

  • @hickok45 Henry is as old as 1860, many of their rifles were used in the civil war. I think the only thing I prefer with the Marlin is the loading gate.

  • @harriet807, I was afraid you were under that impression, which is why I answered the way I did. Nothing wrong with the Henry Rifle company. As I understand, they are making a quality rifle; however, they have nothing to do with the Henry that was made in 1860, other than using the brass receiver and such. If you research the history of Smith & Wesson, it will put all that in perspective, the early Volcanic leverguns, the Henry Rifle, etc.

  • gotta love them Marlins!

  • Who wants this gun? I do.

  • Gunny

  • is your gun safe more like a safe room ?

  • i like that nice gun real nice gun love to get one one day

  • Was outbid for one of these on gunbroker. IIRC it went for $1250. That's a lot for such a simple, albeit highly desirable, little gun Your vids are probably responsible for $200 of that premium.

Great gun (a genuine collector's item, at least until Davidson's does another run, and assuming Marlin is still around and producing guns, which is a legitimate concern). Great vid and great shooting as usual.

  • @JaguarSBA, Wow, glad I found mine for half of that.

  • My Grandpa is from the sticks he made everything on his compound I'm guessing among other things you make your own soda? Now that I have all the tactical/practical crap I want I've been really into wheelguns I'm thinking leverguns will be next.

  • as a side note, talk about a zombie gun... XD

  • your right, theres just something about them big cartridge lever guns that is so cool. im dieing to get one, but our local lil gun shop is abit over priced sometimes >> although, its abit scatter brained, they have a .22 there, a remmington nylon 66, looks like its in perfect condition, for 470$, and i had a gun guru friend tell me its a $800 rifle. any input anyone?

  • @Ki113r210

A good condition nylon 66 was valued at $500 resale about 7 months ago, and the price has only bean rising.

    Buy it, its worth it.

  • @Breakneckhydra1 they also have a Remmington Apache 77 for the same price i believe, they both came in on the same day

  • I believe the laminate trees grow in Hendersonville......yeah pretty sure...

  • buy a pure russian Ak74 instead of them americanized ones plz :D

    love ur vids.

  • @Dreamer9828 , one could find himself called upon by the ATF if it's too "pure Russian." :-)

  • @hickok45 Haha, whys that.

  • What camera are you using, that handles these loud sounds?

  • shenanigans

  • with everybody talking about how great the AR/AK platform are, I most definitely wouldn't want to be on the "receiving" end of that .45-70. i don't know why, but 400-500 grains of hot lead buffalo medicine is NOT what the doctor ordered.

  • The Mr Rogers of the gun world....love it

  • Hickok45 you rock!

  • I have a Marlin 1895 45.70 Govt and I love it. I have a 4x scope mounted on it. One thing I'll never understand though is the love affair with the peep sight.

  • When you're shooting skeet coming from different directions, it's easier with a shorter barrel; less time spent bringing the muzzle around.

  • @forrestc3 except you definitely aren't shooting skeet with a 45-70 lever gun...or you missed a reply button

  • @k4ylr He mentioned shooting skeet around 6:15.

  • hay hickok45 do you know how much that rifle will cost new or used????

  • My goodness what a lever gun! I love the ol marlin 1894's but to see one in stainless... I want one now! Thanks hickok45, my wish list grows by one more lol.

  • Hi Hickok45, how would you compare the Marlin 1895m .450 MARLIN with the 45-70 GOVT?

  • lol hickok said shinanigans!

  • Have you ever done any videos for cleaning lever actions? I know they make them cable type cleaners which is fine for the barrel, but was wondering if you ever really break them down for a good scrubbing. BTW, great videos.

  • gotta love the 45-70

  • The ram needs to be punished.

  • makes me want to play red dead redemtion lol

  • Mmmm, don't you just love the sound of that lever action?

  • I gotta say-- being a marlin owner, I can't see how winchester lever guns are so popular.

  • man thats a beautiful rifle!

  • Love to see the lever guns in action. Defiantly want a 45-70 in stainless. Have the Marlin 1894 in blue in .44mag. Its nice to share cartridges with the Super blackhawk. But the 45-70 reminds me of the old west when a man was truly free. Its a serious piece of kit. Thanks for the great video Hickok and Big John.

  • Glad to see you drag the STP back out, I had my STP out a couple of weeks ago... with the XS Lever Rail and threaded ghost ring with a williams threaded peep insert it was banging steel at 400 yards.

    Have to love the .45-70.

  • hickok you really are "God" in human form, youre camra man shakin the camra yet you hold that .45 with extream stabillity to pick those small targets off nice shootin

  • handsome rifle

  • Hey Hickok!

    Love seeing those lever guns!

I recently acquired my first lever, a Rossi 92 in .357, and it is a hoot to shoot!

I get such a kick out of watching your videos. It's genuinely like I'm standing there with you, except I don't get my turn at bat! ;O)

Cheers, God bless & Happy 2012.

    Armedinbama

  • I'm glad you got this baby back out. Been thinking about it here and there since the last video.

  • ted nugent shooting

  • My God!!! Wish i could spend an afternoon with you!! Oh well!!!

  • simply epic

  • I don't often comment because I'm not sure I have anything important to say but I just wanted to thank you for the time you and John put into sharing your love of firearms. I get more enjoyment out of these videos than I probably should lol. Your enthusiasm is highly contagious.

  • Love you!!!! Not a gay way of course!!! Love from Finland!!!

  • man, i love watching you shoot!

  • 5:56 = the ultimate suspense shot for us viewers!

  • I have the Marlin 450 and love it. Not sure what the difference between the 450 and the 45/70 is. Someone told me that the 450 was a hotter load, but the 45/70 could be reloaded to make it just as hot. I do know that the 450 uses a small ring around the case so it cannot be used in the 45/70.

  • Watching the slow-mo, about as much dirt flies as does soda! I think I need a 45-70 next time I need to dig some post holes!

  • Hickok what are those guys building in the background ?
